After a few minutes the light darkens and a spotlight comes on to the stage. A woman in a beautiful gown step out. She stops in front of a microphone. The hall goes silent before she starts speaking. She tells the story about how this charity started, and where she came from. When she is done a children's choir comes on stage, they sing, we are the world. I look around the room, an older woman is drying a few tears with her napkin while whispering something to her husband. A gay couple are swaying to the music, one of them almost sobbing. It makes me smile, seeing all these rich people show emotions and compassion towards people less fortune. My family has never struggled with money, but we have never been rich ether. This is a howl new world for me, the women sitting around wearing diamond necklaces that cost more than my apartment, men with bank accounts larger than I will see in my entire life. It's good to see them using some of their wealth on others. When the choir is done, they leave the stage again, and the woman comes back out on the stage.
"Touching right? I want to thank you for coming. The dinner will be served shortly, and after the dinner the charity auction will start." I look down at the table seeing a sign with a number in front of me, in the middle of a list is a list of objects up for auction and the starting bid, then she leaves the stage again and the room start bussing.
"Are you bidding on something?" I ask Nick and he grabs the list for us to check out if there is something of interest on it.
1. Weekend in the Bahamas, at a private resort, including a private jet (Starting bid $ 5000)

3. Painting by Takashi Murakami. (Starting bid $100000)
4. 6 pro bono cases to Children in need from Parker & Smith (Starting bid $ 10000) Wow, I was pleasantly surprised. I knew we did pro bono cases, but 6 cases when a Charity need it is amazing. I glance over at Daniel again he is talking to the woman sitting next to him. not sure how he could concentrate on her face when she was practically throwing her massive boobs in his face. It makes me giggle slightly; I can tell he is a bit uncomfortable. I look back at the list and continue reading.

6. One of a kind vase from Magnor (Starting bid $ 3000)

10. Invitation to Parker & Smiths Christmas ball 2 tickets (Starting bid $ 100)
11. Invitation to Parker & Smiths Christmas ball 2 tickets (Starting bid $ 100) I had heard rumors about this ball, but no one at my level at the firm got invitations. Mostly the partners, clients, and rich potential clients got to go.
12. A case of Domaine Ramonet Montrachet Grand Cru (Starting bid $5000)
The list went on and on, 30 different objects were up for auction. More than one thing that caught my interest, not that I can afford most of the things on the list. I am curious to see how much everything goes for, and what the outcome will be.
The servers come out and starts to serve the first course, and a small classical band starts playing soft background music. I am in awe, this event is going over all my expectations.
"Hope you like escargot" Nick say, and I look down as the plate is sat in front of me, my eyes whitening. Snails!? My expectations suddenly crushed. I look at Nick as he takes a poking stick and digs out the snail from the shell and puts it in his mouth. I all of a sudden feel sick. No way will I put that in my mouth, no way! I look around in panic.
"I have to go to the bathroom" I whisper to Nick, and he nods. I get up from my chair and go over to the hallway, looking for the bathroom. When I see the sign, I walk down the hallway.
"Not a fan of snails I take it?" I hear Daniel's voice from behind me. I stop and turn around to look at him.
"Not really" I say guilty.
"Don't worry, me neither, half the people here won't be eating it" He say approaching me slowly. He stops when he is so close that I can feel his breath on me.
"When did you start dating Nick Cornwall?" he askes his voice stern. I look away from his intense stare.
"This is our first date." I admit, he lifts his hand placing it on my hip, I gulp before looking back up at him. as our eyes meet, he drags me so close to him that my chest is pressed against his. Then his hand moves to the small of my back and rest there on my naked skin. He places his free hand on my cheek stroking it with his thumb, I open my mouth to speak, but before I can get a word out, he moves his hand his thumb now brushing over my lips. I feel chills go through me, and my feet getting weak. None of us are saying anything, I'm just standing completely still letting him move his hand freely around, touching me. Then he leans down, his lips so close to mine I can almost feel them on me. If I just pucker my lips, we would be kissing. He leans his forehead against mine, closing his eyes breathing me in.
"You shouldn't be dating him" he whispers softly, I am mesmerized by his touch and his voice, having to gather myself before speaking.
"Why not?" I whisper back, my voice shaky. I want a legit reason. Because I want you for myself, I'm leaving my wife. for example. Or just, I'm leaving my wife would be enough.
"He is not a good man" he says, taking another deep breath before moving away from me a little. His hand is still resting on my back, and my chest almost pressed against his, but his face is now towering over me again, and he is looking down at me with a concerned look. For some reason his words rub me the wrong way. He is not a good man? Has he looked in the mirror lately? He is flirting with me, playing with my emotions, he clearly knows I have a crush. But at the end of the day he will always go home to his wife.
"Well at least he is single" I snap, taking a step back from him, his hand falls from my back, but I still feel the warmth from where his hand just was. I look to the side, afraid to see the expression on his face from my comment.
"Single or not, he is still not a good man. Plus, he is a client, you are not allowed." He snorts, I look at him in disbelief, is he really sinking so low? Really caring if I date a client.
"I have read the byelaws Mr. Parker, there is nothing in them prohibiting me from dating a client." I snarl back at him. His eyes narrow slightly.
"Well it will tomorrow" He say before turning to walk away. But I rush after him, grab his arm and turn him back to look at me.
"What the hell is your problem?" I almost scream, noticing the echo from my voice, he doesn't answer, so I continue.
"Are you married?"
"Yes"
"Are you leaving her?"
"No?" he looks at me confused
"Then stop messing with my head and let me live my life." I sigh as I got the last word out, a rush of relive rushes through me. Like when you really have to pee, and struggle to open the front door, and when you finally do, and make it to the toilet. That kind of relive. Like I have said something that has bothered me since the first day I met him. His face turns cold.
"What did you think this was? Come on, it's an office flirt. It's not like I actually like you, I thought you were onboard. I thought we were just playing around." His voice is as cold as his face and the words hit me like a ton of bricks, and I suddenly feel really stupid. Of course he didn't like me like that, he barely knows me, and I barely know him. why in the world would he leave his wife? I fight the tears boiling up in my eyes. I turn my face away from him again. The bathroom is just a few steps away. I turn away from him and walk over to the bathroom, not sure if he was still talking to me, all I know is, in that second, I had to get away from him. I close the door behind me, happy to see I am alone in here. I walk over to the sink and look myself in the mirror, my eyes are read. I blink a few times trying to dampen the redness, then I open my clutch take out my lipstick and freshen up. No freaking way will I let stupid, fucking, asshole, Daniel doucbag Parker ruin my night!
As I sit back down the plate with the escargot is gone, Nick looks at me.
"You ok? You were gone for a while."
"Eh, yeah... I just, eh... the sipper of my dress got stuck" I lie, but he seemed to buy it. Just then the servers came out with the main course, it smells great. It smells like meat, not snails. We ate dinner and talked, he told me about the life of a basketball player, and what he has been up to since he retired. He also told me about his family, his cat, his cars, his house in Beverly hills, his apartment here in New York, about the time he was in a bike accident, the time his ex went crazy, and about what his plans are for the future. Somewhere in the middle of his shearing I start to wonder if he ever is going to ask me a question. I want to turn to look, to see if Daniel is still sitting at his table, if he is looking at me. But I will myself to keep my eyes on Nick. I smile and nod and laugh at his stories, even if he might be a bit self-centered he can actually tell great stories. And before I know it the dinner is over, the host for the evening comes back on stage, and she is about to start the auction.
