Luna walked into the nondescript building to receive her assassin's licence. It had taken weeks, but she'd finally fulfilled the requirements. The man behind the counter at the far wall looked up from a computer screen and sighed. "Name?"
"Luna Bowen. I'm here to get my licence."
The man typed Luna's name into the computer and stiffened. "I'm sorry, but this says you still need 49 more kills."
"What?!" Luna sputtered. "That can't be! The last one was my 50th!"
"I'm sorry miss, but your permit had expired. When you renewed it you had to re-fulfill all requirements. Those are the rules."
Luna banged her head against the desk. "I was so close...Mom, seriously, why...?" she groaned. "Fine. When the next Assassin's Ed?"
The man typed. "Next class starts next week. There's 2 slots open."
"Sign me up for one of those," Luna demanded. "This time, I'll get my licence."
The next week Luna walked into the same building into a room in the back filled with desks and a chalkboard. "Welcome to Assassin's Ed," the teacher bared his teeth at her in what was no doubt supposed to be a smile. "Please take a seat."
Luna looked around, but couldn't find an open seat. "Luna! Luna, sweetie, over here!"
Luna mentally cringed and walked to the last open seat and dropped her pack on the floor between her, and the student next to her.
It was her mother.
