Luna hummed under her breath as she got to the range. She was looking forward to getting out of actually killing people to finally get her license to kill. Julio was inspecting the weapons when she got there, and she groaned slightly at the thought of having to train a lacrosse player to kill someone. "Drop the weapons, newbie, we're fist fighting today."
Julio obeyed but frowned. "Isn't that...crude? There are all these ways to kill people for a reason."
Luna smiled. "You gotta work your way up, jock boy. That way everything else seems easier when you get to it."
Julio nodded seriously. "I guess I didn't think of that."
"Of course you didn't," Luna scoffed. "They don't say these things until they actually make field trips to the ranges around here! I've been in that class twice now. This'll be my third time. My mom keeps ruining my kills."
Julio laughed. "Your mom supervises you?"
Luna groaned. "Well I need a supervisor! She was the only one available!"
Julio's laughter faded into awkward chuckling. "That's unfortunate."
"You're telling me," she grumbled. "Come on, now. Fighting. Let's go."
Julio raised his fists hesitantly and Luna laughed at him. "Thumbs on the outside of your fingers, pretty boy. That way you don't break them." She held up a fist to show him.
"Oh." Julio adjusted accordingly.
Luna tore into him. A sucker punch to the stomach and a rough kick landed him on the ground, and Luna placed her foot on his chest. "Don't be afraid to make the first move," she said. "Just because you shouldn't always doesn't mean you can't sometimes."
"What does that mean?" Julio laughed.
Luna shrugged. "Beats me. It's my mom's advice."
Julio chuckled. "Your mom sounds like quite the woman."
"She's a piece of work, all right," Luna growled.
"Don't antagonize her too much," Julio said.
Luna narrowed her eyes at the boy. "Excuse me?"
"She's your mother. She might be clueless, but she's trying to be there for you when you need her, even if you feel like you don't, you know? Moms are like that. We deserve to give them a fighting chance, at least."
Luna frowned. "Hm...you may have a point," she conceded, letting him up. "Now come on. Again. This time, don't be afraid to make the first move."
"Yes, ma'am," Julio said with a laugh.
