As soon as I finished eating, I dragged Len away from the table. He frustratedly yelled, "Wait. No, I didn't finish eating!". I had little sympathy for him, he had more than enough time to eat, so I simply yelled back, " I don't care". He gave our mom a pleading look, but she waved us goodbye. I'm sure, if our Dad was awake, he would beg him too.
Len fought me with every tooth and nail, despite his squirming, I managed to the driveway. When I finally had enough, I yelled, " what's your problem!". Tears sprung from his eyes, I forgot he was only a fifth-grader. Before he could start wailing, I fell down to his level. " look, Len, I'm sorry". His lips quivered, " I'm not crying!". Seeing him silently sob put knots in my stomach. He is my little brother after all. "What's wrong? Lincoln, tell me".

He laughed while wiping his tears away, " you never use my full name...". When he finished cleaning his face, he sighed, "... Alex Myers is bullying me". I felt an unquenchable rage fill my chest. I tried to hide my anger, but I sept out of my voice, " And who is this kid!". Len looked down, "... She's the toughest kid in school".
I raise an eyebrow, "...She?". Len raised his head with shame, but I nearly fell to the ground in laughter. While I laughed like a lunatic, he kicked my shins. With a quiet squeaky voice, he screamed, " it's not funny!". After a minute, I stopped myself from laughing. I didn't feel my smile disappear, but I still said, " you're right, I'm sorry". We waited for the bus in silence, but after another long minute, I felt the urge to ask, " so is she cute?". Len turned the deepest shade of scarlet imaginable, he gritted his teeth and mumbled barely audibly, " sort of... I don't know...".

I hid my laughter to the best of my ability. " if she's a looker than you could always ask her out". He looked at me like I was a mad man. " how would you know? You've never even had a girlfriend". I felt my eye twitch. I forced a smile, " how would you know that?". He puffed out his chest, " Lilith told me". Right as he said her name, " Hey guys, what's up?".
I redirected my anger at the cute voice behind me, " speak of the devil". She ignored my comment. This is so like her. She thinks just because we've known each other for so long she knows everything about me. Okay, she does know a lot, but not everything! She focused her attention on Len, " what's wrong, Len, is James picking on you?". He fluttered his eyelashes at her, " Yeah, James is picking on me!".

While Lilith pinched my side, I let out, " I'm only teasing him because some girl has a crush on him!". She stopped dead in her tracks but kept pinching my sides. Len blushed furiously, " she doesn't like me! She's a bully!". Lilith's twisted smile instantly brought back awful memories. Since we were young, she'd flash that warped smile only to bring out my deepest darkest secrets. She's a mean one capable of anything, or I'm just weak.
I fully expected her to mercilessly tease my younger brother. To my surprise, she acted as if she sweetly responded with a smile. She gave a cute little, "awe, is our little Lincoln in love?". I looked up to her, " our?". She turned as deep a shade of crimson as Lincoln then hit the back of my head. She turned her head away from the embarrassment, "You know what I meant". Len laughed at her blushing but stopped the moment her daggered eyes looked at him. It was fun being around them, but my dad's words kept ringing in my ears.

What does it mean to live my life? I've never thought about the future and what it might hold. To me, life has just been sleeping and talking to the people I care about. Is there more than that, should there be?
I was well into my own head when the bus opened its door to us. Lilith had to hit my shoulder to snap me back into reality. I spent the drive pondering everything, but before I knew it, I had arrived at school.
