New Infinity is a story about Ash Smith, a 17 year-old girl who moves into New Infinity, OR, with her family. She has a lot of suspicions concerning the man who runs the town, a man simply named Felix. She also discovers a lot of secrets about the town itself, that things aren't quite what they seem. Along the way, she meets a circle of friends an a circle of enemies, and plays Team Fortress 2 with her friend back home, Isaac.
I started work on New Infinity back in 2013, and after a handful of rewrites and a whole lot of drafting, the first chapter of the first arc got uploaded to FictionPress on 11 March 2014. Since then, a lot has happened. The story is currently 42,000 words in length and counting, and as I am nearing its finale, I figured I could start uploading it to other sites. On FP, its home site, it earned about 150 hits. So I figured I'd also start with an upload on Penana and eventually Wattpad to get more people looking at my work.
The version of New Infinity uploaded here is slightly different than the one I started uploading in 2014. I had a different direction altogether planned in 2014, and it all shifted to my current plan in 2015. As a result, a lot of elements in the first couple arcs do not mesh with the tone of the series in later entries, so I am making minor edits to bring it closer to the current "world" of New Infinity. But I will say it's weird to read some work of mine and not feel embarrassed by it. I'm still proud of how New Infinity opens and how it flows, and getting to work on it retroactively lets me do a lot of really creative foreshadowing moments while still keeping the original plot for the series. There's no big twist here that no other version didn't have; it's not Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
The goal is to upload NI consistently on here until it has caught up with FictionPress. Those chapters have all been written and archived, it's just a matter of copying, pasting, and a bit of editing. Expect a new chapter every 1-3 days or so for a couple months. Following that, there's a few more arcs before its over.
I mentioned arcs a couple times so far, but never fully explained them. Essentially, NI was inspired by a small handful of TV shows and a couple books I recently got into, and each episode or each few episodes would have a story arc concerning a character or event. Take the events between the first episode of Gravity Falls' second season and the midseason finale, Not What He Seems. That all can act as a story arc involving Stan and the gateway under his house. Along the same lines, the characters outside of Stan also grow and have stories that begin and conclude. NI is somewhat written the same way, where each "arc" is about a particular event that gets resolved in the end, but characters can have their own personal arcs, grow, change, come, and go during it. Just because an arc is about, say, a snow day, doesn't mean we won't see other characters develop.
Working on New Infinity has taught me a lot, it's helped me through so much, and my key reason for stopping an attempt at taking my life near the end of 2015 was so that way I could still finish the story of Ash and Felix and the rest of New Infinity. It means so much to me, and I hope you enjoy the adventure. It's been an honor to work on this, and I cannot wait to share it with the fine folks of Penana.
