Like, for real. There was a ton of really awesome stuff in 2015 I want to mention.
Games in 2015: Hoo boy, there were some good ones. Fallout 4 was the obvious one and yeah it's a fantastic Bethesda game (that said, it IS a Bethesda game and I watched a Deathclaw levitate into the air and leave the atmosphere in the Glowing Sea, so keep your eyes peeled). However, there were a lot of other good ones. Splatoon was the most plain fun shooter in a while, and Mario Maker was the most fun I've had with a Mario game in ages (since Sunshine). Erik Asmussen's Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball was as excessively stupid fun as the title suggests, and while I had no intentions to play it and still do not, Undertale seems to be the kind of narrative game people wanted. Ultimately, I think Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger and the Terribly Cursed Emerald was my favorite game in 2015. 20 minutes long, completely free, and amazing fun. Justin Roiland doing almost developer commentary was a nice touch.
TV in 2015: HECK YES 2015 WAS A FANTASTIC YEAR FOR TELEVISION. Gravity Falls has been solid since its start in 2012, but the last year has proven that few shows ever reach the level of genius Alex Hirsch and co. could hit, especially in so few episodes. Only 9 or 10 episodes aired this year and I do not feel cheated in the slightest. That said, it did technically start in 2012 so it's not my favorite show in 2015. That said, it is still my favorite show all around. Same goes with Rick and Morty. It was dumb but it felt like a false sort of dumb. Roiland and his crew know what they're doing and it shows. But again, that started last year. The best new show in 2015 for me was Star Vs. The Forces of Evil. If you told me 5 years ago I'd be watching such a program, I'd have slapped you. But hey, it's visually amazing, has some fantastic characters and continues the somehow-a-new-Disney-tradition of probably giving S&P heart attacks using including but not limited to genocidal antagonists. GG.
Movies in 2015: Back to the Future year, enough said. Amazing to see so many people celebrating a really dumb version of what this year could have looked like. That said, nothing really caught my attention this year. Had I actually cared enough about Star Wars or Jurassic Park, maybe. But I didn't. Still holding out on that Tintin sequel. Peter Jackson, Stephen Speilberg, WETA Workshop, Nickelodeon, please hurry up. Film's freaking fantastic.
Stupid Stuff in 2015: One day, a history textbook will talk about the time Donald Trump and "Deez Nuts" ran for president like a serious thing and I want to be alive to buy a copy of said textbook an frame just that page on the wall. We're finally making fun of the biggest ego in recorded history and I for one am proud. He's going to be decimated by a 76 year-old man and he is going to go on a fuming rampage for like 3 straight days. I hope he gets so impassioned and angry during a speech he loses his voice prior to a debate, honestly.
Myself in 2015: I have become like 35 times as asexual as I was this time last year, so much so that's pretty much my defining personality trait. That said, this year has been a rough year for me now that I have started University and got just 3 hours of sleep most nights for 3 solid months. I got sick of walking down Jackson five times a week and then going straight to work right afterward thrice a week. During the Winter Quarter, I'll have just three classes downtown and an online course, so I'll at least have a day for myself next quarter. Whether my mental health gets better or I end up down the slippery slope and I'm taping pennies together for "the aesthetic" by April, we'll just have to find out. 2015 has been a great year for my depression, at least. And by that, I mean it's had a great year to grow and become stronger. Yeah~
My writing in 2015: Got a lot of work done on New Infinity, and started some work for my next big writing project. Have not been as active on here as I'd like, but I don't have many ideas on what I'd write, so whatever. Hopefully some short one-off inspirations hit me in 2016.
IN SHORT: 2015 was a pretty good year. A bunch of people died and that's awful, but media is getting pretty good this decade and I might be finding improvements in myself. Edgy 2005 me would be sorely disappointed in who I've become but he's like 9, so I could fight him. Fight me, edgy 2005 me.
