Infinity laughed and smiled at the boys surrounding her. Ever since she had come home last December, her hero status had earned her more admirers than she cared to deal with. But now she was popular for the first time in her life, and she was going to milk it for all it was worth.
Her house was full of teenagers, and not just sophomores in her grade, but juniors and seniors from her public school, and kids from the private high school, too. Everyone wanted to meet her. People had been asking about the boy who helped her save the world, but after a few glares and Russian expletives, they had stopped asking. Now, she was just enjoying the end-of-school party.
“Infinity, over here!”
“Hey, Infinity, I’ve got a question!”
“Oh, Infinity! Why don’t you give me a kiss?” The last speaker received a dark look, then a demure smile.
“Mitchell, you’re such a flirt!” Infinity exclaimed as she draped her arms around the tall boy’s neck. “Aaron! What do you think you’re doing?” she yelled at the boy who had wrapped his arms around her waist. Aaron picked her up and soon she was dangling from the two boys’ light embrace.
The gate creaked open and her head turned to the sound. “Oh, that has to be Ben!” she whispered conspiratorially. The newcomers walked in, and across the yard, Infinity’s eyes locked with the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen.
