Blood rushes to my head, and my eyes dart in every direction. I tightly grip my scimitar, and in my left hand a torch. The flame flickers, fighting against the darkness. Dim light reveals the three creatures of shadow closing in.
Most have heard legends of the Illrod, a creature so vile that light itself refused to touch it, but before this moment, only two believed that the legends may be more than just stories. Thresia, and her drunken father Wheeler.
I advance forward driving my blade toward the tallest of the three Illrod. Unconcerned the beast avoids the attack. It stands on its hindlegs. Until this moment I had not fully understood how massive he was. The beast of a creature stood eleven or twelve feet from the ground and must have weighed over a thousand pounds.
Thirty peices of silver, suddenly doesn't feel like enough for all I have been through today. Still, if I make it out of here with my life, I could use the money.278Please respect copyright.PENANALcRbdYeRKe
"Only a fool would face the Illrod alone." Theresa's sharp voice echoed in my memory. "Still, I admire your bravery knight."
The beast shot his claws forward into my ribs I feel them taring through muscle, as the other two shoved me off balance. I shout as I realize how deeply the claws had cut into my skin.
For a moment the shadows sit, silent and still. It's too dark to see the shadows, but from their breathing they seem almost curious weather I would stand back up.
I don't want to. I want to lay here and wait until I bleed out. I trust the creatures would be kind enough to let me die in peace. After all. I have nothing left to live for, right?
Maybe it's the adrenaline, or maybe just desperation, but my body refuses to let go. It pushes me onto my feet and grips the weapon tightly.
I" need that money!" I shout, blindly swinging the scimitar through the air. I feel it cut the nothingness in front of me. A claw peirces me from behind. I fall to my knees.
I hear a familiar voice echo through the cave. "Kill him."
"Thresia!" I shout.
My breath is stolen as a sharp pain knocks me to the ground. My vision slowly starts to fade. Only question rests on my mind as I take my final breath. "Why?"
