It was long and tense drive all the way to the airport. They drove inside a military zone, where Wölfe saw hundreds of young boys and girls being sent to war. 204Please respect copyright.PENANANfa2gHewjv
Most of them looked nervous, some tried to run away but was forced back into line.
The sight of this didn't bother him as much as before, as he was only 15 when he was conscripted to fight in the last war.
"You don't seem bothered," Edelweiss said.
"I could say the same to you," Wölfe said said, "Aren't you the one who implemented the Conscription Mandate?"
"I didn't do it, the Kaiserin did," Edelweiss answered, "We needed more numbers to strengthen our armies,"
Wölfe sighed and went silent, ending the conversation.
After a few more minutes of driving, they reached their destination. The back of a large plane that was about to send troops and supplies to the front lines.
The climbed out of the van, Wölfe followed Edelweiss to a small mobile office building near the plane. They went inside and was greeted by two young girls. They looked like high ranking officers by the look of their uniforms.
Wölfe stood a distance away and looked out the small windows.
Then, he noticed the two young girls approached him. One of them had short brown hair and stood taller than her companion which had silver hair.
"You will be assigned as a... supervision officer for the divisions in the front lines,"
"Supervision officer?" He thought.
"These are the ones who you will be aiding," Edelweiss continued, "Kapitan Elsa Müller of the 716th Kriegsoldats and Leutnantin Erika Albrecht,"
The two officers had a serious look on their faces.
There was yet another tense silence in the room.
"Don't you... want to say something?" Edelweiss asked him, noticing how silent he had been since they arrived.
Wölfe didn't reply and just continued looking out the window. The two looked at each other before turning back to Wölfe.
"Well at any rate, you will go and aid them at the front lines. The plane will embark tomorrow morning," Edelweiss explained before leaving, followed by the two officers.
Outside, Edelweiss and the two officers were walking towards the same van.
"With all due respect, High Kommandant." Erika said, "Why do we need him? We're doing just fine with or without a 'supervision officer'"
"Who even is he anyway?" She added
"I'm not sure, but my father wanted him free when he..." Edelweiss paused, "It was what he wanted,"
Erika felt guilty for asking.
"He looks familiar though," Elsa suddenly spoke.
Edelweiss looked at her witha curious expression, "You met him before?"
"Pictures of my mother with her tankery crew during the last war, there was some men she was with," Elsa explained, "One picture had a man who resembles him,"
"So, it seems we have a war veteran," Elsa concluded.
This was a shocking piece of news as many of the war veterans are either dead or sent to a mental asylum.
Wölfe could very well be the last of the war veterans of the last war.
"This may explain how he knows me very well," Edelweiss thought, "He may have served with my father,"
"But all traces of his pasts were erased by orders of the Kaiserin herself," She continued, "For what reason, I'm not sure,"
Elsa nodded slightly, understanding the meaning behind the words, "What will you do next, High Kommandant?"
"I'll need to ask the Kaiserin herself, I need answers," Edelweiss answered.
"But... what about the war?" Erika asked, slightly concerned, "Shouldn't you focus on the more important task at hand?"
"Don't worry, we have a war veteran," Edelweiss reassured... somewhat, "What could go wrong?" She said before leaving .
Elsa watched after her with concern. Then, she remembered what had happened earlier today, "She seems troubled."
Erika let out an annoyed sigh, "If anyone should be disturbed right now, it's her! This whole thing has shaken her up more than anyone,"
"Perhaps you're right," Elsa agreed, "Let's go Erika, we still have a war to fight,"
