"Choking On Nightmares"

A silent slumber is what I wish,
To close my eyes and sail to the land of sleep.
A dark world behind my eyelids,
A dream I cannot find, only a nightmare.
I want to scream, but only gargle on my own blood.
From the darkness, a damp dead tree branch I grasp,
Pulling myself up from an open grave,
Realizing soon a spider, bigger than my hand, is on my face.
It bites my once-closed eyes,
Ripping from my face, I am blind and cannot scream.
No one knows I'm here; I can't call for help.
No one would hear me as I am choking on nightmares.
One by one and all together, I am trapped here,
Cannot escape with wings I have grown,
As they are made from stone, like the marker that bears my name.
Rest in peace, I cannot, as I am choking on nightmares.
Neither kin nor clergyman can rescue me from here.
Trapped, my mind is a prison for my restless spirit,
Set adrift, and no one will know I've died and am now buried here.
A century has passed, my once vibrant young vessel
Has drifted through life, now sunken to a wet, cold grave,
Taken over by maggots and various worms.
No one will know nor care of my demise,
As they never knew I was choking on nightmares.
