The sounds of the monsters fighting in the valley below reached them faintly.
Zorrik pointed the laser at him dead to rights and he knew that this time he was finished.
Gargan stepped up close to her lover.
"This was all because you couldn't leave well enough alone, Captain.In loving too much you have killed everything."
"What are you talking about?"
Zorrik risked a glance at the clock.
"In ten minutes it's over,not only for this system but for the entire universe.You see,once the star over head explodes, that's it,every other star, trillions of them,will explode in succession.Time will be set back to the beginning.It's the end of existence.You yourself have condemned Time by creating me in a clone process chamber.You crossed the line and now it's too late too go back.I hate you.Holly hates you.We hate everything you stand for.You loved living things so much that you have sealed their doom.Death changed us.And in a few minutes that peace we seek will only be found in utter destruction.Not even atoms will survive."
"This is madness!"
"No.This is justice."
"Gargan,Holly! Don't let him do this!"
"Save your breath, Captain.She's beyond you.You killed her a long time ago."
The scientist felt his knees buckle from weakness and staggered in place.
He felt something hard beneath his foot.A small rock.
"We shall be together in hell,"Zorrik said,and fired the pistol.
Zzzzzzzzzzt
The pain wasn't as bad as he thought it would be,the searing heat of a ray gun hardly even made itself felt.He stared into the black void of death and wondered when consciousness would depart.
And then a noise made him open his eyes.
Zorrik was kneeling over the charred corpse of the cyclopes monster,in shock of her betrayal.
"Holly,why?"
Gargan had stepped in front of the laser blast at the last moment!
Carefully he felt for the rock in the sand.
The earth rumbled and the air was filled with electromagnetic radiation from a dying star.

Zorrik only had a second to look up in surprise before the rock bashed his brains out.
The Roman staggered towards the Time Crystal in the slow motion of a nightmare.

The heat of the blasted thing seared the flesh from his bones and with skeleton hands he attempted to rip it from the altar.
He didn't have the strength anymore,he was reduced to jelly.

Suddenly two hands were on his shoulders and from somewhere new strength poured into him.
With a last wrenching effort he was able to grab hold of the terrible thing and fell backwards to the ground sobbing.
Immediately the shaft of leeching energy stopped and the star overhead ceased to scream.
And then the unthinkable happened.
The Osiris appeared in front of him and fixed its living Eye on the corpse of its master.
Immediately a black energy beam shot out and enveloped the dead man.
For a moment nothing happened.
And then the body began to tremble.
And then it sat up.
It was resurrecting the dead.
"NO!"
Captain Space could only watch in horror,to weak to do anything.
And then something from behind the infernal machine attacked it with a death ray.
The Osiris screamed and attempted to face its attacker.The corpse of Zorrik,forgotten,dropped back into oblivion.
In another second the battle was over.
The white light swallowed the Osiris in a containment bubble and it disintegrated into nothing.
In the moments before blackness overwhelmed him,the scientist saw his benefactor.
The Helios had come back to fix something it had broken a long time ago.
