Flair’s eyes flew open and she slumped forward, wrapping her arms around her abdomen. Resting her head between her knees, she swallowed deep gulps of slightly chilled air. Her throat stung with every breath and she heard quiet footsteps approaching her. She peeked out from between strands of sweaty hair and regarded Rynn. Rynn approached and hesitantly rested her fingertips on her sister’s shoulder.
“Sor… ry,” Flair said, drawing another shallow breath. Her flesh hand trembled against her leg and her metal one twisted the sheets around her fingers.
“Was it another nightmare?” Rynn asked, perching on the edge of the bed. She swallowed and nodded. Flair sat up from her hunched position and rolled her shoulders back, trying to relax.
“You don’t need to stay. I’m fine now, really,” she said. Rynn shook her head and swung her legs up onto the bed.
“I think I’ll stay here if that’s okay with you,” she said. Her teeth caught her bottom lip. “I just want to stay here. I want to be here. For you. Not just tonight, but from now on. I missed out on so much and I just want to finally have a sister.”
“You’ve had me as your sister since you were born,” Flair said. “And that time has been made up for. We’ve been together for years now since you decided to come with me.”
“But I’ve always been wrapped up in myself,” Rynn said. She wrapped her arms around her sister’s shoulders. “I feel guilty for only really caring about myself.”
“You don’t only care about yourself. That’s ridiculous. You shot Faith when I was hurt by her. How is that selfish?”
“I did it because I felt like I had to, like I had to get revenge for what she did, not because I’m a good person that selflessly defends people,” Rynn said, lips trembling as she began to quietly cry.
“You can stop talking right now. I know that you have a good heart because you are one of the sweetest people I have ever met. You are my sister, and I don’t believe for a single second that you are not a truly good person,” Flair said. Her arms slipped around Rynn’s waist and she wrapped her in a tight hug.
“Thanks,” she mumbled into her sister’s shoulder, squeezing her back. The sound of a throat being cleared broke their embrace. Both girls glanced up to regard Langdon with venomous looks.
“I’m just here to tell you that Kane wants to see you right away, Captain,” he said. “What were you two talking about?”
“None of your business,” they both answered simultaneously.
“I should go see what he wants then,” Flair told her sister, leaning in to hug her again before being shooed away. She took one last glance at Rynn before following Langdon to the kitchen.

“Ah, there you are,” Kane said, standing up when Flair entered. “I have the coordinates for the first person I was considering as an ally.”
“Well then? What are they?” she asked.
“First you have to promise to actually give my idea a chance,” he said, pulling a piece of paper from his pocket.
“Okay, fine. I promise. Now give me the coordinates,” Flair said. He hesitated before handing the piece of paper to her. “Wait. These…”
“That’s why I had you promise,” Kane said.
