Gym class rolled around. I trailed behind Coach Shin in the locker room while Kim Lee was already at his locker, changing clothes. Coach Shin started showing me around.
"This is your locker." He said as he walked up to a locker.
"Alright. Now get changed, men!" Coach Shin shouted then he walked away.
I turned towards my locker and opened it up when I realized I didn't have any gym clothes yet.
"Oh. I haven't gotten any gym clothes yet." I mumbled.
"You can ask Coach Shin for some, but for today, just put on your trunks." Kim Lee said as he changed into his trunks then took his shirt off.
I blinked my eyes, confused. "Trunks?" I asked.
Kim Lee nodded. "Today we're swimming."
"Oh..." I automatically frowned. I despise swimming because I can't swim and everytime I jump into the water, I always end up drowning.
Maybe there is a way I can get out of it....
Kim Lee looked over and noticed that I wasn't changing into trunks.
"Why aren't you changing?" He asked.
"I...I don't have any trunks.." It's not a total lie. I really don't have any trunks on me, but I also hope that I can skip out on swimming today.
"Oh. That's no problem. You can borrow my pair." He said then tossed me his extra pair of swim trunks.
I caught them in my hand and looked them over.
"So...do we swim everyday?" I asked.
Kim Lee shook his head as he closed his locker door.
"We only swim twice a week. The other three days is when we're outside."
I nodded. "I see..."
"So, hurry up and get changed. I'll see you outside at the pool." He said then turned on his heel and left the locker room.
I sighed sadly as I looked down at the swim trunks when a guy pushed past me.
"Watch it." He said.
"Hey, isn't that that new kid? He's that emo boy." The second guy said.
"Oh yeah. I wonder if he's wearing guyliner." The first guy said.
"You can't really tell because his hair is all in his face." The second guy said.
I started to shoot daggers at the two guys as I watched them turn the corner then I proceeded to slowly take off my clothes and throw on the swim trunks. When I finished changing, I walked outside to the outdoor pool where all the guys were standing around, stretching. Then, I looked at the pool and I felt fear erupt inside of me.
"Hey."
I jumped when Kim Lee smacked me on my back. Then I watched him look me over. He smiled.
"I had a feeling we were the same size. So, are you ready to swim?" He asked.
"Well...to be honest..." I started, but I didn't get to say what I wanted to say because Coach Shin quickly blew the whistle to get everybody's attention.
"Let's start with practice shall we? First up is Kang Woo, Goong Min and Joon Soo." The coach called out then three boys walked up to the edge of the pool and got ready to dive in.
Once Coach Shin blew the whistle, the three guys dove in and started to swim across the pool. My anxiety started to kick in and I was sure that I won't be able to get into the pool, but I don't want anybody to find out that I can't swim. I wish there was a way to get out of this.
After awhile, I was called next.
"Next up is Hae Jin, Hee Chul and Kim Bum." Coach Shin called out.
"Good luck." Kim Lee said.
I nodded as I slowly walked up to the edge of the pool and peered down into the dangerous depths below. Before I knew it, the coach blew his whistle and the other two guys dove right in. I quickly dove in, but I didn't get far. I tried to move my arms and legs, but I wasn't going anywhere and soon, my whole body was submerged under the water and I started to feel my lungs burn. I honestly didn't plan on dying today.
Someone jumped into the water and grabbed onto me, but I was already passed out and filled with water. The guy got out while someone helped pulled me out then I was laid on the hot ground. The guy who dove after me began giving me CPR. He pushed on my chest a few times and blew air into my mouth a few times before I finally coughed up some water and I slowly opened up my eyes.
I looked up to see an unfamiliar guy peering down at me. I started to slowly sit up and the guy quickly pressed his hand on my back to keep my steady while everybody crowded around me.
"Are you okay?" The guy asked.
I looked at him again and my heart started to race. Not because of the fact that I almost drowned, but the fact that this guy saved my life and preformed CPR on me while everybody else just stood around. I could've died if it wasn't for him and i'm grateful that he saved my life.
"I...Yeah. I'm fine." I said then started to stand up. The guy stood up with me and kept his hands on me to make sure I didn't fall. I looked at him again and noticed that he has long hair that almost reaches his shoulders and he was taller than me and looked really cute.
I tried pushing the thoughts out of my head and started to walk away from everybody. I went back into the locker room with Kim Lee following after me. I walked up to my locker and pressed my hand against it.
"Are you sure you're okay? Do you want to go to the nurse?" He asked.
I quickly shook my head. "I'm okay. I just need to rest a little bit..." I assured him.
"Okay. If you need anything..." He started.
"I know. I know. Just...go back to class." I said.
Kim Lee nodded then walked back outside. I stayed inside the locker room, though to catch my breath and calm my racing heart.
So much for a quiet year here...
