All the furniture had been shoved to the wall and corners of the room and on the hardwood floor was a female werewolf locked in a wrestling match with Varden. He had discarded his shirt and both of their bodies glistened with sweat. She was down to nothing but a sports bra and work out shorts that barely left anything to anyone's imagination.
I stopped just short of the makeshift ring and waited until he noticed me standing there.
"Oh hi Cat," he said a split second before his opponent took advantage of his momentary distraction.
In less than three seconds she had him in a reverse scissor, one thigh on each side of his head, his upper body locked in her arms.
Working his arms in beside his face Varden began to press outward. It took several seconds but at last her legs began to move outward until with a lighting move he slipped out from between them, threw himself over top of her and pinned her to the floor by her elbows. Her face turned red as she tried to throw him off yet she couldn't budge him. Then, after a final heaving push she went still, her eyes blazing up at his.
"Caught?" Varden asked.
"Caught," she heaved as she thrust her hips up and ground them into his.
Varden pushed down on her arms and bounced off of her and turned to me.
"And you thought I wouldn't get along with these guys," he offered a hand to the woman on the floor and yanked her to her feet. "Cat, this is Alice, and the woman to your right is Marcy." He walked over to his discarded shirt and began to wipe the sweat from his face.
I could feel my anger rising as I watched both of them stare at Varden like he was a bottle of water and they were in danger of dying of thirst. I walked over to him, an overwhelming sense of jealousy blotting out everything else.
Catching him by the shoulders I mashed my lips against his and pulled him into a deep kiss. I found myself enjoying the huffs and low toned comments from Alice and Marcy before I let Varden up.
"Not that I mind, but what was that for?" Varden asked, swaying a little before he caught his balance.
"I was just marking my territory." I flashed a smile at the two women who return nothing but scowls.
"What, are you a dog now?" He asked.
Before he could get his shirt over his head, I pushed myself back against him, buried my head in his thick chest hair and inhaled. His scent rushed into me, saturated my brain, and left me clinging to him for dear life. What was wrong with me? I'd never acted like this before around anyone. But I couldn't help it, I had to let these wolf sluts know who's he was, and now I was the one acting like a slut.
I felt heat like I'd never known before consuming my modesty and self control. This was not want, this was a deep seated need, and it was over taking me. Thankfully Varden was still my Varden.
"It was nice getting to know you ladies," he addressed them as he steered both of us towards the door. "But we need to get back and report." His last words were shouted through the closing door as he slammed it shut and pushed me off him.
"What is the matter with you? You think they were acting badly, and don't get me wrong I enjoy the attention, but not in front of people we don't know."
Shaking my head, I swayed then dropped to my side. Strong arms caught me before I hit the porch and helped me to the car.
"What happened?" I asked when the world had stopped spinning.
"What do you mean, what happened?" Varden asked, his face a mask of surprise. "You came onto me in front of all of them," his eyes narrowed. "Are you okay?"
"I have no idea, I remember grabbing a hold of you to keep them away from you, then it's all a blur."
"It's over now, and the sooner we get back to the Sanctuary the better. You did get the information we wanted didn't you?"
"Yeah," I slumped further down in my seat. "The vampires are responsible for the attack. They must have promised some of the mutts something to get them to attack us."
"Then we need to take out the vampires who were behind it, right?" He asked as he slew the car around a tight turn in the two track.
"Not as easy as it seems Varden don't worry, we'll figure something out when we get back. But right now I need to sleep, wake me when we reach the airport."
"Okay, it shouldn't be any more than a couple of hours."
"Good, I'm beat." I flipped the seat all the way back and stretched out.
"Varden?"
"Yeah?"
"We really need to get married, soon." Those were my last words before we reached the airport.
I woke up to the steady hum of the car engine. Looking over I saw that Varden was not in the driver's seat. Panic rose in my chest and I bolted upright, slamming my head into the cars roof. Rubbing my head I caught site of Varden walking across a small parking lot. This was not the airport, that much I knew. But if not the airport where were we?
The door opened and Varden offered me his hand.
"Where are we?" I asked looking around.
"We are at a church here in Casper. I was just inside and the pastor has agreed to lead us through our vows."
My mind was a complete blank. "What vows?" I asked like an idiot.
"Our marriage vows." He said.
My mouth fell open as I realized what he was saying. "You want to get married, right now?"
"Yeah, I mean if you want to, I can wait if you don't?" I took his hand, and he helped me out of the car.
"Are you kidding? I've been waiting for over two years for this." I grabbed his hand and just about drug him towards the church.
Our service was very short. The man Varden told me was the Pastor led Varden through his vows then turned to me and led me through mine. I thought it was kind of ridiculous, if I didn't love him so much I would have never went through it. But looking over at him I realized I would do anything for this man, because I knew beyond doubt that he would do the same for me.
"Before God and these witnesses I pronounce you husband and wife. Son, you may kiss your bride."
Varden took one step forward and gathered me into his arms. There was no hesitation, nothing that held his passion at bay. He kissed me with a hunger he'd never shown before. It was as if he was trying to devour me right then and there. Then a polite cough brought us back from where Varden had taken us. The three women who were our witnesses were beaming as we thanked the Pastor and walked out of the church.
"I wonder what Damaris will think once she finds out we're married?" I asked Varden as we got back into the car.
"Ha, she'll be asking how long before you're pregnant. That's what she'll be asking." Varden laughed.
As much as I didn't want to admit it, he was right. Damaris and every other woman there would be anxious to welcome the first full blooded Shaper into the world. Not that working on a baby was something I wasn't looking forward to, I wanted Varden to know I wanted him because I wanted HIM. Not to be the first to bear a full Shaper.
"Varden, I wouldn't care if I didn't get pregnant right away. That's not why I want to be with you, you know that right?"
"I've always known that Cat, and now that we're married, do you think we'd be in too much trouble if we arrived back at the Sanctuary a day late?" his eyebrows lifted in a question.
"I don't care if we are. What do you have in mind?" I reached across and placed my hand high on his right thigh.
"I was just thinking, this might not be the largest of cities, but I'm sure there are a couple of hotels with some empty rooms. We might even be able to get a suite or something like that. After that wrestling match I could use a nice hot tub."
"And that's the only reason we need a room." I inched my hand higher up his leg.
"Miss Catherine, whatever are you implying. My motives are pure and virtuous."
"Sure they are." I laughed and slid my hand higher and felt him jump beneath my hand.
"As long as you put it that way. I guess I could dredge up some energy from somewhere." Now it was his turn to laugh as he grabbed my hand. "As fun as this is I do still need to drive."
"Oh, I don't think you'll be the one driving once we get to our room handsome."
"Is that a challenge?" He asked.
"Oh yeah." I answered as we sped towards the night I'd been waiting for, for far too long.
