It was a beautiful day, as Klaus and Elijah sat in chairs on either side of the coffee table with a dead girl on the coffee table. Elijah and Klaus were reading books.
Rebekah walked into the parlor to see them reading.
“So, this is what you do when we’re together as a family again? Vampire book club?”
“Reading edifies the mind, sister. Isn’t that right, Elijah?” Klaus replied without looking up, still reading.
“Yes, that’s quite right, Niklaus,” Elijah agreed, also still reading, not looking up.
“And what’s this business?” she accused, looking at the dead girl.
“Well, I couldn’t very well let her go to waste, could I?” Klaus said, not answering her question, but assuming she’d get the drift.
“Well, I suppose I’ll go fetch the rubbish bin, because she’s staining a two hundred year old carpet,” Rebekah commented, annoyed.
Elijah looked up from his book to see the girl bleeding out onto the table and the blood dripping onto the carpet.
“Ah, yes,” Elijah commented, agreeing with Rebekah.
Klaus looked over at Elijah, and then to Katerina as she walked through the room and into the kitchen, her hand resting on her pregnant stomach. Klaus then watched Elijah follow Katerina into the kitchen.
Katherine was making herself some breakfast, when Elijah appeared, leaning in the doorway.
“Good morning,” he greeted her.
“Hey,” was the only greeting she could give him. She was still mad at him for leaving her without a look back and making all of them worry about him. She knew Elijah could sense it, but she didn’t care.
Rebekah entered through the back door, dragging a trashcan behind her.
“Listen, I know I’m the only one in this house that actually drinks milk, but would it kill any of you to make sure it’s on the grocery list?” Katherine inquired.
“Speaking of, add bleach,” Rebekah interjected.
Rebekah stomped through the kitchen and into the parlor to clean up the mess Klaus had left. Elijah dug around in a cupboard, as Rebekah did so, while Katerina pulled ice cream out of the freezer.
“I do hope my siblings were on their best behavior in my absence,” Elijah stated to Katerina.
“In your absence, as you call it, I have been attacked by French Quarter vampires, was nearly murdered by witches whom are convinced this baby is Lucifer, and I have to deal with Klaus and Rebekah’s mood swings, including my own.” She looked up to see Elijah set a bowl on the bar counter with a spoon in hand. He set the box of cereal on the counter too, before pulling orange juice and milk out of the fridge and pouring her a bowl of cereal, and then filled it with milk.
“Oh…milk,” she stated, feeling like an idiot, realizing there’d been milk all along. “They’ve been fine. They’ve become weirdly protective, which is quite different from how it used to be. I know I have you to thank for that,” she added.
“I’m just happy to see you in one piece.” He handed her the bowl of cereal, which she took. “So, back to the murderous witches. I have some concerns.”
“I’m sure you do,” she said, expecting nothing less from him. Broken up or not, he’d protect her, even at the cost of his life. He’d vowed that centuries ago to her. “For lack of a better word, they’re evil and my life is still linked to Sophie.”
“I think it’s time we took care of that,” Elijah stated.
Rebekah re-entered, dragging the corpse of the girl Klaus killed across the floor behind her.
“I’m all for it. As soon as they’re unlinked, we get to leave this crappy town. Who do we have to kill?”
“Probably no one,” Elijah replied after a moment of consideration.
Katherine gave him her ‘you’re joking, right? I almost got killed by witches’ look.
Elijah sighed, seeing her look.
“Alright, probably everyone,” he said, before leaving.
Klaus was still reading “A Poisoned Tree,” as Rebekah scrubbed at the bloodstains on the carpet.
“Poetry about poisoned apples from dead trees. Looks like someone’s worried about impending daddy-hood.”
Klaus shook his head. “Nonsense. Elijah’s here. In his presence, all problems turn to pixie dust and float away!”
Rebekah side-eyed him and grinned, and Klaus grinned back. Elijah heard them talking about him and joined them in the room.
“Strange, I don’t recall any pixie dust here.”
Elijah sat down and began reading Esther’s grimoire.
“What are you doing with mother’s spell book?” Rebekah asked.
“Well, I promised the witch Davina that I would share a few pages from mother’s grimoire to help her learn to control her magic. I thought we’d begin with a little un-linking spell,” Elijah replied, having already informed them that he was working on getting Davina to trust him.
Rebekah and Klaus looked at each other.
“Wait, you want to use her to unlink Katherine from Sophie?” Rebekah said, stunned.
“Sophie brought us here under false pretenses! She doesn’t just want us to take down Marcel and his minions, she wanted to take Davina back. So, she yoked her own cause to ours with magic threats and half-truths! Well, no more. As of now, our deal with Sophie Deveraux is null and void,” Elijah announced.
Klaus and Rebekah smiled at each other at that notion.
“Niklaus, I need you to come with me. I need five minutes alone with Davina. You need to make certain that I am not interrupted.” He looked at Rebekah. “You stay here and watch Katerina.” He left the house.
Rebekah was annoyed and said, “How did I get elected super-nanny?”
“More importantly, who put him in charge?” Klaus said, agreeing with her, before following Elijah out.
Katherine was in her room, when she felt a sudden pain in the side of her neck, which made her yelp and put a hand on a part of her neck. When she took it away, there was blood from a puncture, as if someone had given her an injection. The wound began to heal, because of her baby.
Rebekah had heard her and walked in.
“What the hell was that?”
“Hell if I know. It felt like I was being stabbed or getting an injection. I think something is happening to Sophie,” she replied.
That afternoon, Rebekah entered Katherine’s room with an apple, when Katherine was sitting in an armchair.
“Time for the demon spawn to snack!”
Katherine gave her a glare. “I really wish you wouldn’t call her that.”
“Oh, sorry, have you picked another name yet?”
Katherine took the apple Rebekah handed her, and held it for a moment.
“I feel fine now, which means it’s Sophie-related.”
“Then, do me a favor and don’t die on my watch. I’ll never hear the end of it.”
“You know, when I first met you, I thought you were a bitch, but I’ve grown to like that about you,” Katherine complimented.
Rebekah chuckled. “Aw, well, that’s sweet of you to say. Remember it when I’m gone. I only came to town to make sure everything was okay with Elijah. He’s fine, so as usual, they’ll be thick as thieves, and I’ll be left to clean up the mess. It’s time for me to fly the coop.”
“Good luck finding whatever you’re looking for then,” Katherine replied, and went to take a bite from the apple, but suddenly started to feel woozy before she could eat it.
“What’s wrong?” Rebekah asked, worried, sensing that she wasn’t feeling good.
“It’s probably just morning sickness,” Katherine said, though she figured it was something to deal with Sophie.
Rebekah used a hand to feel her forehead.
“You’re burning up.”
Meanwhile, Elijah and Klaus found Sophie whom told them that Agnes used a cursed object needle on her, which causes a miscarriage by raising the blood temperature.
Afterward, Klaus had the human faction find out where Agnes was at.
While Klaus headed back home, Elijah dealt with searching for Agnes too. To him, Katerina was still special; not just family. Whoever harmed her would have to deal with Elijah. Whoever messed with his family didn’t deserve to live.
Katherine layed in bed with Rebekah trying to cool her down with a wash cloth on her forehead.
“Nik will be here any minute,” Rebekah informed her.
“I feel like I’ve been microwaved,” she told her. She would’ve said something about a werewolf bite, but she wasn’t a vampire anymore.
“I’m sure my little niece is healing you up as we speak,” Rebekah soothed her, trying to keep her calm. She didn’t need Katherine freaking out.
Klaus walked briskly into the room with Sophie.
Rebekah stood to greet them, but saw Sophie.
“What the hell is she doing here?”
Sophie sighed. “I’m trying to help.”
“Help? You’re the reason we’re in this bloody mess! Why aren’t we unlinked with this witch already, Nik?”
“Let her do what she can, sister,” Klaus encouraged.
“I may know a way to slow the fever down. But, I’m gonna need some special herbs.” She looked at Rebekah. “I’ll text you the list.”
Rebekah didn’t like being ordered around but said, “Fine. Happy to play the fetch girl,” and then shoved the washcloth she had been using for Katherine, into her brother’s chest.
Klaus watched her leave.
When Rebekah was looking for a certain bottle in Katie’s shop, she got caught by Marcel, but he didn’t know what she needed it for, so he didn’t stop her. She did leave him suspicious, though.
While Elijah dealt with Kieran, the faction of humans, and what to do with Agnes, Klaus stayed with Katerina in the room until Sophie had the herbs for the spell ready.
As Katherine lay in bed, weakly, with everything far away, she was vaguely aware that Klaus was there. For some reason, it was a comfort. If she or their child or both were going to die, she wouldn’t have to deal with it alone.
“Get her in the water!” Sophie yelled, which Klaus heard all too well.
The hybrid slid an arm under her legs and the other under her head, pulling her gently into his arms, picking her gently up.
Though everything seemed far away, she felt him pull her into his arms, and she wrapped her arms weakly around his neck and layed her head on his shoulder.
“I’ve got you, luv. You’re going to be okay,” he assured her, before blurring into the backyard. He then walked into the pool with her in his arms.
Once the water was deep enough, he stopped walking and she began to feel the pain as her temperature began to go down, but she was never one to share the fact that she was in pain, human or not.
As Klaus stood there, Rebekah watched, while Sophie mixed herbs.
As Davina began doing the unlinking spell in the attic, Katherine began to feel like she couldn’t breathe. Klaus noticed without her having to say anything.
“Long deep breaths, Katerina. Look at me, luv. Long deep breaths. Just focus on the sound of my voice, Katerina. You’ll be okay. You’ll be okay,” he instructed calmly, despite his anger at the witch Agnes and fear of losing either of them. He’d grown fond of Katerina. He didn’t know what he’d do if he lost her. He didn’t want to lose their child either. He had to keep her awake and breathing.
A few moments later, she was able to breathe right again, but now felt searing pain, and it was all she could do not to show her pain to all present eyes. She knew that Klaus knew of her pain, but she didn’t care.
Back in the attack, the knot in Davina’s hand floated in the air and began to unknot itself.
Sophie gasped, as the linking spell was lifted.
Rebekah sighed in relief when Sophie said she felt it lift.
As a test, Sophie poked her palm with her earring and nothing happened to Katherine.
Katherine was calm now, but still in Klaus’ arms, still weak from the spell.
Klaus got out of the pool with Katerina still in his arms.
“I don’t know what your brother will do to Agnes, and I know you don’t owe me anything, but I ask that you don’t let him kill her. She’s our only access to the power we need to survive. Promise me that you won’t let him kill her,” Sophie pleaded.
Klaus looked at her.
“I don’t care about your survival or power or whether Agnes lives or dies. You want her alive? Talk to Elijah yourself.”
Klaus went inside and back to her room, where he gently layed her down in bed.
She gave a weak smile, looking at him.
“Thank you. You saved us.”
He sat on her bedside and gave a smile, a hand on the side of her face.
“Anything for both of you, Katerina.”
Meanwhile, Rebekah and Marcel were making out and Sophie had gone home.
Elijah had just arrived and killed the few guys whom had helped Agnes.
Elijah blurred in front of Agnes with a hand to her throat.
“Nobody hurts my family and lives.” He snapped her neck. “No one.”
He walked out of the church.
After stopping by at the plantation home which resulted in Katherine closing the door on him, Marcel later found Klaus and said that he knew where Klaus was living at.
Meanwhile, when Elijah came home, the house was empty.
“Katerina?” he called, but didn’t hear anything, so he called Rebekah whom was driving, ready to leave New Orleans.
“Goodbye means goodbye, Elijah,” she greeted, having told him goodbye earlier.
“Is she with you?” Elijah worriedly asked.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Katerina’s gone. Where is she?”
“What?” Rebekah exclaimed.
Klaus angrily walked in and announced, “Marcel was here.”
