It was a dark night in Europe May 1764, when Angelus and Darla killed Daniel Holtz’ wife and infant son and turned his daughter who was about seven years old, which resulted in Holtz, a vampire hunter, chasing them across Europe after having to kill his little girl.
In 1765, they had a near miss with Holtz in Aries after making too much noise by ordering room service and then eating the waiters. Darla fled to Vienna after knocking out and abandoning Angelus in a burning barn, and rode off on their only horse, only to meet again in Vienna and ate a troubadour in Madrid, where they became acquainted with two vampires by the name of James and Elisabeth.
One night in Rome 1771, Holtz tracked down Angelus. James was with Angelus who left Angelus to Holtz after he took an arrow in the side for James. So, Holtz succeeded in capturing him and tied him up in an abandoned barn, where, with help from Monsigner Rivalli, tortured Angelus, trying to get him to give him the location of Darla, but he wouldn’t tell Holtz anything.
Not long afterward, Darla came to the rescue with a horde of vampires and fled with Angelus on horse and wagon.
After that night, Holtz abandoned his hunt and retired to York until, in 1733, a demon named Sahjhan offered to take him to the future in exchange for his promise to kill Angel and Darla.
