Now a lot of people say that, but few truly mean it. I would rather die by black hole than continue with my job, but I have no choice. Were I to kill myself before my slavery was up, they would capture my only living family, my son, and force him to do what I have been doing for so long.
Just what do I do? A job so abominable it shouldn't even exist.
I destroy planets.

Our scientists were experimenting with how to create entire planets with terraforming technology and put primitive species from our planet on them to see how they would develop. These "planets" are scattered throughout our outer atmosphere and when a test is over, they send slaves like me to destroy it and bring back the pieces. There was one that we had in the lower part of our atmosphere, with creatures made to withstand the heat the belly of our planet produces. They lasted a month. I killed them. Then there was one where it always rained, and the creatures there developed some, but soon died out as the rain gathered more acidity. I was forced to rake all the organisms off that one too. The forth one had made a glorious empire, and the scientists decided their tests were too successful. The people's screams still haunt me to this day. There is a belt of the destroyed experiments around that one, separating those from the older ones. Those only managed to form to be gaseous, and the scientists keep them around as a reminder of progress. There is one belt behind that, keeping the others enclosed...most of the time.
Then there is Terra. The most successful experiment to date, it's people thrive in vegetation, cold, and even extreme heat. They have defied all odds, explaining their situation in the science they had discovered. They searched the other failed experiments, and lived through war and drought and famine. They are the pride and joy of the foundation, despite their short lifespan of only a month. (Around 90 years their time.) They are like highly evolved rats, and they were the one experiment I hoped I'd never destroy. But that day has come. The board has deemed them too smart, the test is too be terminated. I trundle up to them as they scream in fear, knowing their end is coming but not quite understanding how. I quickly ask whatever diety that looks over them to make sure they will be at piece, and with a crushing blow destroy their planet, silencing billions of voices, billions of minds. I know wherever they went, I will not be rewarded the same place.
