The bathroom was comparatively hot compared to the bedroom and outside. Unsurprising, considering the shower had been running hot for who knows how long before the body was discovered.
“Ah Adrian. I heard you were here,” Cuth said. He was an inspector at the police station with jurisdiction covering the city. “Who called you?”
“Rachel. She’s one of the witnesses who discovered the body. Also our friend.”
“Oh, that girl. Did you talk to her?”
“Yes, I did. Now, I need to talk with her supervisor and the hotel manager.”
I looked at the bathroom door whose handle was hanging by a wooden splinter. It had one of those knobs where the key would lock the knob in place and not the door. So, when you closed the door, you couldn’t turn the knob to open it again without a key. Upon closer inspection, I found that there was a fragment of the key jammed inside the knob on the bathroom side. No wonder the hotel manager had been unable open it from the outside with his own key.
I turned and saw that Adrian had moved towards the shower cubicle and stared at the body inside. Now that the glass had cleared up, one could see everything inside clearly. Carrie’s naked body lay prone on the floor inside the cubicle. There were several tattoos on her body covering her back, shoulder, thighs and her neck. Most of them had phrases written in foreign languages that I did not understand.
Every inch of skin on her body was red with some areas full of blisters due to the hot shower. I winced at the thought that she might have been alive during that time. How much would it have hurt? Besides the blisters and the red skin, I could see no physical wounds on her body.
“There was a glass of wine on a table in the room. What do you make of that?” Adrian asked. He was down on his knees inside the cubicle, examining the body.
“Well, my guess is she drank a little too much. Then, she came in for a shower. In her drunken state, she slipped and fell, hitting her head in the process. And well, here she is now,” Cuth said.
“Or she could have been hit on the back of her while she was showering,” I said.
“Of course. But murder is not the first thing that comes to mind when you see the body like that. Looks more like an accident,” Cuth replied.
Adrian stood up and let out a quick breath. “Her body is starting to smell. No thanks to the hot and humid environment in here,” he said as he stepped over Carrie’s body and out of the shower cubicle. “I’d like to talk to the supervisor and the hotel manager now. See if they can add anything to the case.”1088Please respect copyright.PENANACilzIdf1YW
