The supervisor and the hotel manager didn’t add much to the case. Their story pretty much matched what Rachel had said.
“... I saw a body inside the shower cubicle. I went inside and took a pulse. There was none. After that, I instructed Joshua (the supervisor) to call the police while Rachel left the bathroom on her phone,” the hotel manager finished his story.
“So Mr. Derek, you’ve never seen the victim, Ms. Carrie McGuire, before?” Adrian asked.
“Not at all.” He paused. “Well, I did check her out yesterday night. I mean, I checked her out of the hotel, not check her out,” he said, embarrassed.
“You checker her out?”
“Yes. This area isn’t particularly friendly at night and the receptionist we have is a young girl. So, I do the night shifts at the reception. I checked her out yesterday night at around eleven, I believe,” he said.
“Then how’d she end up here?” Adrian asked.
“I don’t know.” He shrugged.
“Are you sure it was her? Are you absolutely sure?”
“Well, I can’t say for certain. She was wearing a lot of makeup. But she had the keys of this room. That’s why I was pretty confused when Joshua radioed me saying someone was taking a shower in this room that was supposed to be vacant,” he finished.
“Can you describe her to me?”
“Well, she was about five feet and five inches tall. I’d say a little stout. She had blonde hair and a really white face. I’m guessing a lot of foundation? There were also tattoos all over her body. I remember she had this tattoo of a flower in her wrist. It stood out to me because of it was so vivid. Most tattoos aren’t that colourful. Besides that, I don’t remember much.”
“When did you finish your shift at the reception?”
“About half an hour before Joshua radioed me. I was going to leave for home.”
“Okay, thank you Mr. Derek. That’ll be all for now,” Adrian said.
After Derek had left, I turned to Adrian. “He just described Carrie perfectly. Right down to the tattoo on her wrist.”
“Yes he did.”
“So Carrie did check out. Then how’d she get back in? She must have come back with someone else,” I said. “Too bad this hotel doesn’t have CCTV cameras that we can use. It would have been really helpful.”
“I don’t think we’ll need those,” Adrian said. He stood up from where he sat and started walking away.
“Where’re you going?” I asked.
“Back to the room. I want to look around properly.”981Please respect copyright.PENANAm0qL14rO8i
