As soon as Adrian finished speaking, Derek fell to his knees. He knew he had been utterly defeated.
“Or,” Adrian continued, “You could confess right now and save us all the hassle Mr. Derek. It’d be a lot easier for everyone.”
“How?” Derek’s asked, his voice almost a whisper. “How’d you figure it out?”
“The first thing that struck me as odd was the fact that you ordered Joshua to call the police. Anyone else in this scenario would definitely call an ambulance. I figured that you somehow knew the whole thing involved foul play. You immediately became a prime suspect to me.
“Second, the room had been barely touched by Rachel and yet it was clean and tidy. If you’d committed the murder, it would make sense that you would try and clean the room to erase any evidence and avoid leaving a trace. I already suspected you and I thought about it; you are a hotel manager. You must certainly know how to clean a room like a housekeeper. I bet you started as one before climbing to the top. Your housekeeping knowledge must have kicked in like instinct while cleaning the room. Anyways, that caused my suspicion in you to grow deeper.
“Third, the table outside with the wineglass had a little circular stain of wine in a position where someone, who might have been drinking wine with Carrie while seated opposite her, would place his glass. Also, the carpet in the room is soft and wherever you set the chair and sit on it, the pressure of the chair’s four legs leave dents on the carpet. There were such dents literally next to the table across where Carrie’s chair was. From there, it was obvious she was drinking wine with someone. And since people hardly invite total strangers into their room for a glass of wine, I figured it must be someone she knew.
“I must admit the next thing was a complete shot in the dark and I’m glad it worked. You were my prime suspect and I also knew Carrie knew her killer. I searched for her Facebook profile and looked through her friend list to see if I could find Mr. Derek in there and lo and behold, I did.
“About how I know we’d find your fingerprints on the table? The table was moved from its position next to the bed so that Carrie could comfortably drink wine with you. It’s heavy and I doubt Carrie would be able to lift it alone. You helped her move the table. You did clean the table afterwards because the wine stain we found was fairly faint. But the underside was still dusty and unclean; you forgot to clean down there. It was obvious that we’d find your fingerprints there,” Adrian finished. “So, would you like a lawyer now? I doubt that would help you. Take him away Cuth, this case is closed.”854Please respect copyright.PENANAjLjaPhWylo
