I stumbled onto the site one day and loved how fresh it looked. Seriously, short stories that I could read easily on my phone when on the bus down to my College was my cup of tea and it was free too. What I also loved was that the majority of users are adult writers who take writing seriously. As a teen writer, I do take my writing seriously and I'm always trying to improve. The site was mature and that suited me perfectly.
Right from the get go, I received lovely welcomes from the website as well as some of the longer users. The site has only been going for just over a year now and the contests they are run are fantastic. You can earn badges for your profile, win gift vouchers and for the Nanowrimo November contest, a publishing contract with them since Inkitt are publishers or closely associated with publishers. The main headquarters are in Berlin.
I started to write an Adult Thriller story called Dust which I'm currently too scared to continue since of my self-esteem issues. The way that users review stories on the site is a five star reviewing system across writing and grammar and a bunch of other options. The uploading rules look a little strict at first (for example, no author's notes are allowed in the story) and the blurb has to be the same length as a tweet on Twitter so that helped me to work on my pitch better.750Please respect copyright.PENANAwBnScnPQC0
I did receive some constructive criticism that I hadn't received on any other site before, they were all professional when they spoke to me and were shocked to hear that I was only a teen. The main character in Dust is a twenty-nine year old single male. Yep, not a teen.750Please respect copyright.PENANAsBIdary80V
One reviewer said that I should write more Historical Fiction and that made me smile. History is a subject that both myself and my mum excelled in at school so that's most likely where I got in from. Geography from my dad and English from both of them. Since I live in the UK, I set my story in this fictional village in the countryside somewhere in England and the plot is quite mysterious.750Please respect copyright.PENANABIQgeCYcvA
There's a call one morning over breakfast porridge and Samuel Dodds (name of my main protagonist) picks up the phone and learns of a surprise inheritance. What could it be? Money? A set of fancy Rolls Royce cars? Nope... It's an old country house, oh.750Please respect copyright.PENANAPyFKRYQkcL
On arriving there, he meets this young woman who quite literally takes his breath away (I've read way too many romance novels) but this is the fun bit. He discovers that the house isn't quite what it seems and what I've written of it so far is so scary that you might think that where you live is haunted. I'm happy to post what I do have of my story here if anyone would like to read it. It's got a bit of everything in except bad boy teens in the modern days. It's mainly an Historical Thriller since I go back in time to the early 20th century (when Queen Victoria dies) but yes, let me know if you would like to see it here!750Please respect copyright.PENANAEtSwgWKPxD
Inkitt is very good about getting stories noticed. The contests are free to enter, you can categorise your story in more than one genre, age rating and the forums are there for writers to meet other writers and learn of new features to the site. 750Please respect copyright.PENANA6Stt6zzSgU
Looking for quick reads? I truly recommend it, a very mature site and I was accepted even though I'm not an adult yet but I was treated like one. I felt quite grown-up. And normally, I don't feel like that. Blame self-esteem again.
