Dante's posture was tense the entire ride back. I , on the other hand, was still pouting at not getting a chance to eat. My stomach subtly growled in response. I sigh and look towards Dante who was speeding, god knows, how fast.
I was getting used to his sudden moods changes. Sweet one second, serious the next. Suddenly he pressed the brake and I go flying forward. My face was stopped a few inches from hitting the glove department thanks to the seat belt and Dante's hand, which he had pushed out in front of me.
Bloody hell
I slouch back into my seat with a breath of relief while glaring at him. That's it! I honestly don't care how bad this Hallister thing is, but he needs to get a grip. He hadn't seen the red light and almost ran over a kid crossing the road for Christ's sake.
The kid stumbled to the ground and stared at us in horror. Scrambling up from the ground he ran to the other side like his life depended on it. Honestly, it probably did. Letting go of the breath I didn't know I was holding I turned towards Dante.
"Are you insane!" I stare at him wide eyes. His grip on the steering wheels tightened to the extent his knuckles had started to turn white. I payed it no mind, he needed to get his bloody temper under control before he kills someone, or gets himself killed. I look at the signal light which was still red and moved towards Dante.
Slowly I peeled his hands away from the steering wheel and onto his lap with my hands wrapped around it. He looks at me surprised. Hell, even I was shook at my actions, but I am not going to get myself arrested for murder because he couldn't keep himself under check. I pleaded at him with my eyes.
Noticing this he sighed and closes his own eyes while squeezing my hand for comfort. We stayed like this for a few moments before I tried to peel my hand away. The key word there is tried. He tightened his hold onto my hands.
I looked back at his face in confusion. Dante's eyes were still closed but his face had been relieved of the tension it had held once before. Taking the chance I studied his features. His obnoxiously long lashes were toned down with his closed eyes. His chiseled face was set in a content smile and his jaw sat there, as defined as ever. I moved closer and rested my forehead against his.
"Dante....let go. The light will turn green soon." I whispered afraid to break the comfortable silence that had been bestowed upon us. He pulled his forehead away from mine. The breath was knocked out of me at the intensity of his gaze.
The usual emerald color of his eyes seemed to be swirling with different shades, or... it might just be the sun. A strand of his sleek black hair fell on to the left side of his face and I forced the urge to tuck it back, away. He leaned in and once again rested his forehead against mine.
We were a mere inches away.... We both leaned in. I tilted my head and closed my eyes. A mere centimeters apart... millimeters.... beeppp. I jump away from him at the sudden sound and hit my head on the window.
Shit!
Looking behind us I saw the numerous cars who were, oh so patiently, waiting for us to get a move on. A chuckled escapes my mouth before I can stop. Dante raises a brow at this.
"You find this funny huh?" I shrug and look out the window my smile in tact. I was sure my cheeks were flushed. Even though he probably couldn't see the blush from my slightly tanned skin, I sure as hell, could feel it.
This was the second time we almost kissed, and the second time we were abruptly, yet rudely, interrupted. What would've happened if we actually kissed? Would he have dismissed it like it was nothing? Like he does with every other girl at school..... I sigh internally.
I'm definitely overthinking this. I felt a hand rest on top of mine. I look back at Dante who was staring ahead while one hand steered the car. Thankfully he seemed to be in control of what he was doing. He squeezed my hand once again as if to assure me he's alright now. I smile and nod even though he couldn't see.
With one swift turn he kills the car. We were, once again, back at the office. I was getting sick of looking at it every freakin second. Yet the view from Dante's office would never fail to knock me speechless.
I walk over to the Bella and kiss her at the top of her head.
"We're back." I told the small creature who was staring at me. I smile softly and pick her up. Dante however didn't look twice at Bella. He once again had a look of worry and frustration on his face. He basically stormed into his office. I follow after him, Bella in hand.
He was throwing papers everywhere, not caring of the enormous mess he was making. In between his little commotion he kept murmuring.
"Where is it?" Where is what? I wanted to ask before his face turned into a victorious smile when he pulled a tiny USB out from under the mess on his desk. Well color me impressed. Looking for that tiny of anything would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I smile despite the mess of papers surrounding me.
"Great. You found whatever it was you were looking for. Now can you show me what you wanted to, so I can eat?" That got his attention. He looked at me incredulously before shaking his head his lips curved up in an amused smile.
"Follow me then." He states walking past me, USB still in hand. I eye at his passing figure cautiously before following him. On my way I put Bella back in her cage in which she meows in protest.
"Sorry hon, but you're not big enough to be let to roam freely." I lock the cage and scramble to the elevator in which Dante was patiently waiting. He held the door open for me and I nod him a thanks. He nods back as tense as ever. I sigh tiredly. Glaring I put a hand on his arm.
"I have tried to comfort you but you're getting annoying. Get your freakin self together." His head snaps towards me with an amused eyebrow. I hold his stare. He breaks his gaze away with a defeated look. I smile victoriously.
"You're right." He relaxes his posture and I nod with a smile. He presses level 100 and this time I was the to stricken. He notices this and attempts to sooth me.
"This one isn't that bad." I look at him worried. He reaches out and cups my face in his hands.
"I promise." I nod back at him. The elevator door doings open and I follow close behind Dante. We once again stop in front of the huge doors. Dante places his hand in the middle and like before the writing starts to glow alongside the rumbling. The door slide open and I follow Dante in.
I look at the white room. I sigh. I so didn't miss this room, not one bit.
Dante walks over to the two headsets that were set in the middle of the room. Instead of just passing it over, he slides the small USB into his and gives the other one to me. I take it from his hands still surprised at how light the strange metal devise was.
Dante slides his helmet on and I do the same, glad to know what's going to happen for once. The helmet vibrates and darkness engulfs my eyes. Through the silence I hear Dante's voice.
"This one's a little different. It's not a stimulation like the one before, but more like a video of the past." I nod trying my best to understand. After a few moments a scene is shown in front of me. More like I'm in the scene. A tall man is standing outside a broken down hut. The man had black hair and his lips were set in a hard line.
There was a hesitant look on his face and he seemed to be conflicted on whether to knock or not. After a few hesitant moments later his features transform into one of a determined fellow. He brings his hand forward and knocks. The noise of his knuckles banging against the wood filled the eerie silence.
I held my breath as the door opens. A shaggy old fellow opens the door with a creak. His face was sagged and wrinkles covered every inch. When his eyes set on the man, a smile formed onto his face. That smile sent shivers down my spine... there was something very wrong with this old guy.
The man tenses slowly before speaking, "Nice to see you again, Folsworth. I hope you have what I've asked for.." The old guy, Folsworth, laughs at this. I wince at how raspy and scratchy his laugh was.
"Of course I do. Come in." The man nods at Folsworth and goes inside the broken down hut. My feet move before I could stop them. I follow the man into the hut while holding my breath. Surely, Folsworth nor the man noticed my presence.
I watched as Folsworth looked both ways before closing the door. He picked up a walking cane which was laid on the side of a chair. He tapped the cane on the ground and walked over to the far left corner of the hut which was surprisingly empty.
Folsworth smiled and taped the cane into a ground. Suddenly the whole hut started shaking. I stumbled and held onto a near table for support. The wooden wall started to move revealing a set of stairs leading down.
Both of them went down without another word. I gulped and started to follow them down the creepy stairs. This seemed like it was plucked out of a horror film.
I tried to avoid all the spider webs that seemed to cover most of the stairs. After what seemed like forever I reached the bottom. Folsworth and the man were standing over a wooden box. Folsworth reached down and opened the cover of the wooden box, it resembled a casket. He motioned towards whatever was inside the box with a toothy smile.
I recoiled at the how disgusting his teeth were. Yellow was all you could see and most of his front teeth were missing.
"Here it is. Isn't it beautiful?." The man nodded and picked up whatever was inside the box. I gasped at what he held. It was a sword. The sword emitted a glow, but was blood red. A demonic aura resonated from the sword and I had to swallow my urge to puke.
"Indeed it is." The man nodded smiling his eyes glazing over dangerously. Folsworth nodded proudly.
"I used every bone of your son that you gave me to forge this. It holds tremendous power and you should be able to kill anyone in your path.... even your family." The man was now full on smiling. It made me sick to the stomach.
I once again looked at the sword and noticed an emblem on the handle. There was a golden tiger embedded onto it. I squinted my eyes as it seemed as if the lion was moving....? I shook my head and looked again. Nope, it was still as a statue.
The man put the sword back in and turned towards Folsworth. "You'll be properly awarded." Folsworth old dead eyes sparked and he once again smiled.
I tried to walk closer but then darkness engulfed me. And I was once again back in the plain white room. Without hesitating I took off the headset and turned towards Dante.
"That was the Hallister wasn't it?" Dante nodded gravely and sighed tiredly.
"I thought it was destroyed."
I furrow my brows, "Who was that man I saw. We could ask him? He might know where it is?" Dante chuckles darkly.
"No you can't"
"And why the hell not?" I ask.
"That..," He stopped. "Was my very own pops." My eyebrow shots up. Damn.
Dante looks towards me. " You should get going...it's getting late." I nod.
"Hey Dante?" He nods absently as if asking me to go on.
"Putting this aside, can you come to the library tomorrow after school?" He looks towards me confusingly.
"What for?" I sigh.
"I'm trying to balance my normal life with all this..." I gesture around while Dante looks at me amusingly. "And you." I point at him. "Have not come to school, which is why you probably don't even know you and me were partnered up to do a project for English." Dante shocked face confirmed my suspicions.
"Well that's what we are going to work on in the library tomorrow. Got it?" I purposely empathize the we and stare at Dante. He looks at me sheepishly and nods.
"Alright then. See you tomorrow." Dante smiles and nods. I head off towards the elevator and press the first floor button. Just before the door closes I swear I heard say something, but I couldn't be sure.
"And that is why I will always need you mi amor."
