I would be damned to believe my eyes. A crimson blooded demon standing before me, a royalty of hell's upper class resting on this dusty forsaken old house, a god of torment and war, of destruction and chaos, of control and elegance, one of the finest demons, those trusted by the lord himself, those who enslaved us next to that shitty king... is a little girl?!
"Dude... heellllooo?" Kan waved his hands before me, cracking the silence, like how a security guard does to a mannequin at midnight. "What did she say? You know I don't hear that stuff." he scowled, looking at me and her. He was both perplexed and on guard over whatever the being before him was.
"Oh... she asked who we were," I said, bringing my gaze back to her. Still in awe yet in confusion; She was touching the ground; inspecting her body; face, torso, hair, getting that mucus off her. She looked outside the circular shaped attic window, inspecting the shining moon. "Hey Kan... I think we should kill her" I brought out my knife, the metal infused by my blood to harden should finish the job. "That thing is too dangerous to be kept alive," I declared, especially when she looks too familiar to an old traitor.
"Oi what? You ca-" I ran towards her defenseless naked figure, about to penetrate her chest. But one of the loose wooden planks tripped me over, my face burying onto the filthy floor in front of her. Call it fate, but that is the worst time to be clumsy. She ran behind Kan, grabbing onto his shirt, "Dude, stop! You're scaring her," Kan yelled, resting his hand onto her shivering right shoulder, trying to reassure her somehow. If I had a hin for every time Kan was nice to something, I would've been drowning in the currency of this world. He becomes such an idiot when whatever we're doing is too unethical for him. It almost causes me to think he is siding with the enemy on purpose to agitate me.
Getting back up, I yelled at his stupid request, my voice getting rougher, "Stop? That thing will end both of us, for fuck's sake!! Kill it already." For the better or the worse, her crimson eyes showed fear, hiding behind my too sweet to do his job partner. "I will not become a prey because of you," the echo of my voice cluttered my head, I could hear the whispers waltzing around my wary clouding vision, as sources of light become dim around me, I grabbed my head trying to snap back of it, but the commands of my instincts were growing stronger, the urge to do what madness instructs, to kill.
"But look at her, she's just confused!" Kan yelled. my vision grew weary, as the whispers frenzied around me, nothing makes sense anymore.
"I said, KILL, HE-!!" before I knew it, a blow to my guts led the dust around to dance in the air before I fell on the ground, gushing out black blood from the back of my head. "r..." the last thing I saw was those crimson pitiful eyes of hers, as if I am being mocked for this.
"You... alright?" I turned behind, looking at the poor little lass while waving my hands to disperse of the idiots blood. Her wide apologetic eyes snapped to mine, backing off slowly from the scene. Her tingling body was vibrating too much, and I could even see her heart beating so hard. She looked behind and without prior notice brushed down the attic hatch, "oi wait!!"
She was not fast, let alone capable of running after coming out of her cocoon. She limped, trying not to fall off the floor multiple times before entering Hiko's room. The window atop the bed shone the moon's beauty on the room, books stored on a bookshelf atop a reading table and a chair. I saw her slide under the bed. Her eyes glowing in the dark did not do her any favor, looking like a cat in the middle of the night.
"Come on, I won't hurt you" I crouched, looking under. She wrapped herself around with a bit of that maniac's blanket, which stopped her from shivering for a bit. Maybe she was just cold? I extended my hand halfway, sitting down and waiting for her other half to accept it. If Hiko thinks I will murder some little demon girl because she's some dangerous being, he might as well off himself.
Speaking of the devil, the door opened in a gentle creak as he spoke, "You... found her?" his right nailed hand pushing into his guts. The punch must've tranquilized his demons... and his guts. I suppose it is a comeback for not waiting for me tonight. The fiend crouches beside me, making the covered up scared kid flinch backwards, covering its eyes in the blankets of the freak. Hiko mutters something that I can not hear at all, however it seemed effective to cause the girl not only to look up, but to run from the other side of the bed!
"Dude!! What are you telling her, damn it?!" I yelled pushing him aside, as I stood up looking at her, she hid on the corner still holding onto that now wet blanket, as if that would do her any good. I extended a hand onto her fuzzy crimson hair, petting her slowly... Now that's how you take care of traumatized kids, right? She slowly relaxed her tensed body, looking up at me, her innocent child-like red glowing eyes stroking mine with confusion, how can anyone try to kill this kid, she is so cute, "it's alright, we won't hurt you." I said, hoping that my gesture and kind tone would relax her a bit more. The last thing I want on my days is traumatizing kids. We already had enough with the demons the last eight years.
She pointed at Hiko, muttering something incomprehensible while her eyes were tearing up some dark liquid that would not reflect light, so pure of darkness that it looks like a black hole. "she says she wants you to throw me away or something," he snickered, smirking at the poor thing, sending her back more into the corner.
"I am not letting you hurt her, you know, we will... just protect her and stuff..."
"You don't sound so sure now, do you?"
"Shut up! I know what I'm doing... I mean, look at her. She can't hurt anybody, just like when I found you," I protested. She monitored Hiko while hugging onto that blanket. Her pale looks would make her a good ghost. "Just trust me this time around... seriously, look at her" I might've made a breakthrough. This hard-headed asshole migrated his look to hers. His smirk turning into a frown, second by second, with a side look, he raises his hands and snaps outta nowhere. Sighing.
"Tsk, you win, not because I care, but because we'll destroy the house fighting anyways."
"As usual"
"Yeah..." defeated he crouches and motions her to come near him. Of course she doesn't at first, until he throws his knife onto the bed, showing her his empty hands with a smile. Of course, it was half-assed. Hiko never smiles genuinely at something, let alone at something he tried killing 5 seconds ago. However, it was a sign of trust enough to make her just stand beside me. Perhaps demonic kids have that level of innocence for trusting others. Although still skeptical, the courage was building up. They have an exchange that I am the one now clueless of. Minutes pass by until Hiko points at himself, "Hiko." he says, then he points at me, "Kan."
She nods, looking up at me, half smiling, "k-kwan!" As she said that, I burst out laughing. That was the cutest thing I've ever heard until now. You cannot not laugh at kids butchering your name like that.
"I told her you kicked me back to my senses and I won't be trying to hurt her anymore, plus I told her she will live with us. Apparently, she doesn't even remember her name, or who she is." Hiko explained, as I was trying to stop this fuzz ball from clinging onto me. "So, let's call her Nakumi," Hiko finished, putting his gloved left hand onto his waist, shrugging.
"Sounds good, albeit weird," I said, breaking her grip and raising her up to my face level. "Your name is Nakumi from now on," I declared, smiling, putting her down. She looked at both of us.
"Nwakome!" I will never get used to this. I cracked up laughing again, about to fall on my knees. Getting back to my senses, these two were having an exchange like they are best buddies now, but... the air tensed after Nakumi stopped saying whatever she was saying. Hiko looked annoyed yet complied to whatever she did, he raised his clump of hair hiding his right eye socket towards her benevolent eyes, a total void with nothing inside, an abyss somewhat created in such a skull, it feels endless, yet the more you look at it, the more you sense it staring back. An abyss stares back into her benevolent eyes. I never understood the story of that eye, that he was born this way is one thing, but he says how all demons grow losing their right eye or "the eye of hope" as a tradition to gain demonic powers, and that he was not born with one, so he is not a true demon. And how this connects to the reality of forces that connect our realms and blah blah blah. Don't blame me for falling asleep through them all the time, though. It almost sounds like a fairy tale. Demons suddenly invade us because they killed off other demons. Who conveniently can control dimensions and cross our world? Sounds like someone inventing a novel out their ass to me. She pointed at him, smiling after a long inspection, saying something to him. It looked cheerful and uncanny to me.
"Mind filling me up with you two's buddy buddy talks?"
"she wanted to check my eyes, apparently. I looked familiar, and she just made fun of it..." Hiko furrowed a brow; while raising another but he snapped out of it, "let us just go to sleep. I am too tired to think I will go sleep on the couch. Give her my bed," he said, walking out.
"Go?" She points at the door, looking up at me, anticipating something. She's learning the language pronunciations rather fast for a child. Are all demons this smart? Why the hell aren't half of them speaking our language at all then?
"No kiddo, you're gonna sleep here." I picked her up, putting her blanket wrapped up in a chrysalis-like shape onto the bed. I put my hands together near my face resting on them, trying to communicate what sleep means. "Sleep" then gave her a thumbs up, and she looked as normally confused as a child could be, anticipating something. Maybe I don't know what I am doing after all... I let out a sigh walking out, hoping she got what the big idea was. it was supposed to be that way before getting my shirt grabbed from behind.
"Go..." with a soft gullible tone, she didn't let go of my shirt, and here I thought petty demons didn't fear the dark. I complied with a defeated sigh. "Fine, just this one time, okay?"
"Owkay!" this girl will give me a heart attack, I swear. I contained that chuckle and any heart damage as I laid next to her, albeit giving her enough room to flip around without her foot ending accidentally in my mouth.483Please respect copyright.PENANAtYlqCucT2T
