How SasuSaku and SasuIno are different in ORIGINAL TRANSLATED manga and ADJUSTED TRANSLATED manga
As all the anime and manga, they are firstly translated word-to-word like it was in Japanese, but when somebody buys it, they often adjust it to make it more appealing to the reader/watchers such as removing vulgar language and nudity or weapons. Naruto, who is mostly meant for children, is no different, and I’m gonna point out SOME SasuSaku and SasuIno changes.
First: Sasuke’s: “You’re annoying.”
This sentence was said by Sasuke to Sakura a few times throughout the series. If you only watched anime or read the bought manga in English (don’t know how they translated it into other languages, so it’s kinda tricky) you probably think that this is correct. But, if you know Japanese and you translate it, it actually means: “You make me sick.” And it’s not just one ‘you’re annoying’, all of them are. Since Naruto is meant for children, it’s obvious why this had to be changed.
Second: Ino’s positive love for Sasuke
There are two ways you can get this, and I have met people that see it in a first way and a second way.
a) Positive - they take is as sure, definite love. Like, ‘I’m positive I’m in love with him.’ - ‘I’m sure I’m in love with him.’
b) Positive - they take is as true, genuine love. The love itself is honest, real and good.
I really get why this may confuse some people and cause them to see it in a way they do, honestly I was confused myself when I read it and it was troubling me for quite some time to realize what Kishi meant. Then I discovered MangaSee http://mangaseeonline.us website where is ORIGINALLY TRANSLATED NARUTO. I even had my Japanese friend translate the Japanese manga to me and they were the same.
So, most of us read this version that is translated in America:
Now, let’s see the exact translation of Kishi’s words:
“Optimistic love”. If you see it as a way b) then you are correct. Optimistic love truly is a selfless and good love. Synonym for optimistic love is honest (candid) and unconditional or blunt love.
I have also found this version that is bought by another manga seller in America which translated exactly what Kishimoto meant just used another word:
I also wanna point out something about the pictures being different in the first (official American) and the second (Kishimoto’s original) version. Please look at both pictures and try to notice two differences.
1st difference - in official American version Ino’s mouth is one straight line that is curved the tiniest bit at the end (because it has to, not mouth is a real straight line, but the point is that she isn’t smiling), while in Kishi’s version it’s clear that Ino is smiling, her lips go a bit down and then up and are curved at the end.
2nd difference - in official American version Sasuke is more of a ghost than a person, his face is completely emotionless, we don’t have a good look at his eyes because they are covered by his hair, and he stares blindly in the nowhere. While in Kishi’s version, his eyes are less covered with his hair and it’s clear that he is looking at Ino. And his expression is some mix of sad and angry. It’s up to the viewer to decide for themselves do they see this expression as angry or sad, to me it’s more sad to be honest.
