Their odd ship came at me with incredible speed. "I'll have to head down into the jungle," I ventured.
The next moment, I was squirming and twisting through the trees, close to the ground. When I felt I had shaken them off, I set Alda down.
"Q--que?" she queried.
"Sh-h-h! Not so loud," I warned.
After a few moments, Alda felt a little better. Suddenly I started up. "Did I hear something up there in the tree?" I asked. Then, before I could reach for my gun, three of the little demons had leaped.
With shocking strength they were bearing me down.
"Hold him away from you, Nick!" cried Alda. "I'll give him the paralisação gun!"
"They're as heavy as lead, Alda," I stammered. One clung like a leech to my arm, and exerting all my strength I was able to raise it. Alda's gun put him out of business.
"That will settle him," she remarked. "Now for the next!"
But the others were too close to my head for Alda to risk shooting.
"Maybe I can drag him off" she suggested, as she grabbed one of the little fellows by the leg and gave him the ray.
"That's two down!" yelled Alda.
"And this makes three!" I echoed, as I flung the last invader from me. To our amazement, he bounced unhurt!
He dodged Alda's paralisação and pulled out a gun of his own.
"I'll zap him down," I cried. We fired simultaneously, and I went down under his terrible bolt of blue fire. I came to slowly---in frightful pain. Alda had given the midget an extra dose of paralisação.
"We'd best bind these pests before they come to," I suggested when I felt better.360Please respect copyright.PENANAcPMNVFeDOW
