I picked up a station on the radio the other day. It was listing names and ages, and after a while just said "24 August". I drew the conclusion that this channel listed the names of the dead. I tuned in during the evening of the 25th, so it's a bit far behind. I have been a little depressed to learn such a channel exists, let alone doesn't stop. It never once paused during the entire time I had it on. That was a solid 3 hours while I organized and sorted medication into a daily pill sorter.
I'm also trying to cut usage of the refrigerated container. I think that it picks up on the power grid. It's also pretty loud sometimes. I might just have it plugged in overnight for a few hours and let the air circulate while it is not in use. It's pretty airtight, so that should work. I'm no scientist, who knows.
I haven't been out picking too much since I learned of that radio station. I'm really, really sick of how things are anymore. I don't quite remember if things were always this way or not, but I'm getting sick of how things are.
How were things back then? I know for a fact there was a war, a big one. The population of the earth dwindled into mere tens of millions at one point, and then even lower. And then things got back on track and there was a solid decade or so of peace, and then this stuff picked up and now there are injections you give your workers to let them operate a register for 24 more hours without needing to even sit down. There's a particular inhumanity to things anymore, a particular cruelty. I can't stand it.
I want to go picking tonight, get my mind off the dozens of kids dead and the vast number of issues and horrors of the past and present. A grocer just got a pretty big shipment of canned vegetables (the trucks to said grocer drive right past the warehouse), and I might be able to intercept and nab a few cans. I'm also running low on meats, so I might need to steal some more. Maybe some frozen bacon.
