About a day later I realized my mom was right, ring shopping is hard. Considering I really knew what I wanted, but couldn't quite find it until the 8th shop I had gone to. It was beautiful, it had a light purple diamond, with a silver band that had the simple engraving of "A + A" on the outside. I got it in a small silver box, and with that box, I went home and changed into something nice, before heading to the hospital.
I ended up in skinny jeans and a button up, so my usual. I brought a comfy change of clothes because I usually stay with him overnight, and now I'm walking up to his room. He hasn't responded to treatment, and in a day, his kidneys started to fail so now he is on treatment for that.
I walk into his room in the ICU and see him fast asleep, his face is red and blotchy, he's either spiked up again with his fever, or he's been crying. I set my stuff down, which causes him to stir slightly, before waking up.
"Alex?" His voice is hoarse.
"Hey Aidan, how are you feeling?" I smile softly, as he scoots over.
"Decent for the circumstances." He laughs weakly.
I nod and sit on the edge of his bed before I take his hand in mine.
"So, I got you something." I tell him.
"Okay now I'm curious."
I can tell this is taking a lot of energy out of him so I start, "Aidan, I've known you for over 7 years, and throughout those years and many more, I knew you would be the one, I just knew. For years, we were apart and you did not leave my mind. I want you in my life for however long you possibly can. I want us to be us and I dear god I hope you do too. So, Aidan, will you marry me?"
I open the box and his face lights up even with the tears, "Yes, Alex, yes."
I slide the ring gently onto his finger, and he smiles with tears going down his face. I wrap my arms around him and he mumbles in my ear, "I love you, Alexander."
"I love you too."
"You made my dreams come true, you really did." I have my own tears as he says that.
"Good, and I hope I can continue too."
