Chapter IX: The Fall
The next week erupts after the 4th month. The day is Thursday. Since their summer vacation is coming up, Akiko will go to Tokyo. Talking about this to her friends, Asahi and Enmei approaches her and ask her if she can get them some unique anime merch from Tokyo or just a stop at Akihabara. Kota heard this and feels jealous again. But since he is really left out on what they are talking about, he feels hopeless. In the afternoon, Kota begins to cry because of the pressure/worthlessness in thinking of this.
They soon call Akiko for help to fix this and they think that maybe it is about their relationship. They go out of the classroom while the whole class stalks them from behind. As Kota is expecting for comforting words such as,
"Do you want me to get you something from Tokyo or Akihabara also?".
She starts to let out all the anger she had for a while. She verbally attacks Kota and says,
"I told you not to be clingy on me, and I know that you're a lovey-dovey guy, but now, you're not making it very easy for me, rather to be complicated right now ?!".
A frightened and crying Kota is in shocked and can't formulate any words, he tries to say something but stutters and trembles. At one point, tears roll down her cheeks and she says in a loud voice,
"I know you love me but I only love you as a friend and there I said it!".
A sword pierces Kota's heart. The flame of the candle has died. Kota's eyes then goes blank. Asahi tries to step in but Akiko throws a dirty glass shard to her knee which wounds him. The last period teacher notices the commotion and steps inside the classroom. He goes to the window and opens the curtains. He then tells the whole class to go inside the classroom and explains about love and lies. After that, he dismisses them all excluding Kota and Akiko. He explains to them about love and lies that in most relationship, there is no forcing. It is very normal to get jealous. He makes the two to coexist with one another, then he dismisses them.
Kota is looking very weak from what had happened. Akiko runs toward the faculty since she sees a friend of hers to talk about an RPG game. However, Kota is also going in the same direction, walking scarcely. He sees his cousin and asks him if he could give him some advice to apologize or make it up to a girl. He gives him the advice, not knowing what happened to him. He needs to go out but there is just one problem. If he goes to the gate, he will pass by Akiko.
In order for this not to happen, he goes down the stairs of the underground level and passes there, leading to another staircase going up which leads to the gate. He then goes directly to the dike, and seats there as he waits for his dad to pick him up. A surprised voice gets his attention. He looks to his right and finds Akiko shocked. She asks him where did he walked and to answer this, Kota says that it's a secret and jokes about it.
They get back to their houses. Akiko texts him about what happened earlier and apologizes for it. Kota replies that it's ok. However, he recalls that she embarrassed him in front of the whole class. Tears then roll down his cheeks and starts to blames himself for what he had did. Days after days, though he is still maintaining his grades, he won't notice Akiko. Looking at a social media platform for videos, he is shocked to find that someone took over the position of the number one youtuber. He goes to the group chat where they are talking about what happened in the said social media platform. They are going to disband the group due to this but Kota tries to convince and persuade them to not disband it. However, majority wins and the group is disbanded.
