The earth shuddered below, and a wall of hard-packed dirt surrounded them, sprouting trough the hotel's floor. The Anger of the Earth, mused Vandal. In his realm, a great battle mage named Farst was capable of such things. They did not call him the Anger of the Earth for nothing. He lived in a castle he raised from the earth, and in combat, he could fling dozens of stones the size of oxen like a catapult in a single round.
But Farst was old and it took years of training and experience to obtain such skill, yet this newcomer, this young woman, seemed to have skill beyond her years. Yet, she seemed to have some strange aura about her. To him, the light of her seemed to be that of a woods sprite, or fairy. Such creatures only existed in legends in Vandal's realm, but here, in this forsaken town of outsiders and monsters, what other wonders will he see?
"So I'm not the only one," the newcomer shouted, "good to know!"
"Yeah," said Jayden, "Thanks for that."
"What are we going to do?" asked Nu, clutching the ugly tooth.
"I say," Vandal said as he wiped his brow and sighed in relief, "we let her take care of it. I mean, do you see this wall? She can probably handle it."510Please respect copyright.PENANAtqcNktKFGu
"Even so," said Nu, "we can't just sit here while she does all the work."
"She may be right, you know?" added Jayden, "I don't know about you, but escaping an Umbra wasn't exactly easy." He pointed to his scars.
"Fine," conceded Vandal. "Hey, Nu, that fang. Let me see it, yeah?"510Please respect copyright.PENANAR0bTLcEnP5
Confused, the young magic-user, handed over the tooth.
"Alright, let's see ... " whispered Vandal.
Vandal gripped it closed his eyes and did as Winston taught him. Imagine the weapon, Vandal started, imagine the flame and all its might ... now bring them together ...
"Uh ... " uttered Jayden, "What's he doing? Holding it like that?"510Please respect copyright.PENANA7UKSuo2QzB
"Shhhh," hushed Nu quietly, "It looks like he's focusing. Perhaps—"
The tip of the tooth flashed with a yellow and orange glow as if it was iron pulled from a blazing forge. When Vandal held it in the shadows, he could see a subtle aura of flame surrounding it.
"Gods!" exclaimed Vandal, "I can't believe that worked!"
The appearance of the fairy-like woman just may have stirred something in his soul, and awakened his ability. I knew I felt something. 510Please respect copyright.PENANAquck8LRBuE
"Careful, now," he warned as he handed the lit tooth back to Nu, "my mentor said enchanted flame is much more dangerous than that of the natural."
"Just like Magsen ..." she mused to herself as she took back her weapon.
"Magsen?" Vandal asked.
"Oh," said Nu, "it's nothing! Just reminded me of someone I know."
