Maddie Simmons sat with some other girls at New Beginnings Christian Church in Colorado Springs. It was an hour drive to get from Denver to Colorado Springs but her dad really liked this church and it wasn't hard to see why. The church was huge, and it wasn't an exaggeration, the place had several levels. And elevators for wheelchairs.
The walls had amazing paintings on them, one wall had a grassy field in the sun with flowers painted on them it also had a bible verses painted on also: "And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good." Another one had a picture of Jesus on a rock holding out his hand to a toddler. All of the paintings were beautiful and the matching verses were just as beautiful.
The youth group pastor was a kindhearted woman, she was related to the lead pastor, Amanda Young. She was sitting next to her daughter Lily Ann Young. She was a nice girl, a few years younger than Maddie.
"Josiah's your father right?" she asked.
"Yeah."
"I always thought he would be a really good father, heck of an athlete." They both laughed at that comment.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?" Maddie asked.
Lily Ann chuckled, "My parents wanted a lot of children and they got it. I am the oldest of seven."
Maddie turned and looked at her, "You're kidding? You have seven siblings?"
She shook her head, "They just adopted a boy from Africa. They said that he was their last adoption. He is nine."
A notification popped up on Lily Ann's phone and she took a deep breath when she saw it, "Oh my gosh!"
"What?"
"A tsunami just happened in Thailand."
Stephanie.
Maddie had a sinking feeling, "How bad?"
"Really bad, a lot of people have been reported dead."
Maddie took a deep breath, "I have to go."
Lily Ann looked confused, "Okay, I'll see you next Sunday?"
"Um yeah, I'm sorry Lily Ann, give me your number and I I'll explain it later."
After they exchanged numbers, she hurried down the hall to the adults service and searched for her father. She looked around and moved throughout the crowd, until she finally found her father. "Maddie what is going-"
"Daddy there was a tsunami in Thailand!"
Maddie watched her father's face become pale and lead her into a quiet hallway. "Honey where did you hear about that?"
"My friend got an alert from her phone."
He sighed and put his hands over his head while shaking his head, "I have to call Daniella."
"Do you think that she would be able to answer her phone if you called?"
"I honestly don't know, the best case would be she lost her phone." he look up at her, "I also think that we should pray for her and Stephanie."
Maddie leaned against the wall and closed her eyes.
What if that didn't work?
What if she would never get to meet her little sister?
