Emma and Jess walked out of the building, "So both of you're parents are in the military?" Jess asked.

Emma smiled, "Yeah, my mom is home but my dad got deployed a few days ago."

"Do you know how long he will be deployed?"

"At least eleven to twelve months."

"Twelve months?" Jess said. "Are you worried about him."

"Well yeah, but I know he is in God's hand and he had a plan for my dad." Jess lived near Mr. Fu's place so they decided to take the subway instead of walking there.

"Don't you just hate your dad for joining the military in the first place though?" Jess asked.

Emma thought about it, "I don't know, I mean sometimes I wish he didn't have to go but he loves the military."

Jess studied her for a long time.

"What?"

"I don't understand you sometimes." Jess said after a while.

Emma laughed and smiled. "There is a lot of things you wouldn't ever understand about me, name the topic of the day."

Jess smiled, "Why are so at peace with your father being deployed?"

Emma had to think about it, "He was part of the military when he met mom so without the military they wouldn't have met each other and had me."

Jess smiled at her and chuckled. "Wow, you are just have the perfect christian answers don't you?"

"Huh?"

"Well, I mean you're clearly a christian," Jess said pointing to Emma's choker with a cross charm on it, "And so am I, but that doesn't mean you have to agree with your parents."

Emma was quiet for a second trying to think of the right words. "You're right, being a christian doesn't mean I have to agree with every little thing, but when it is the Lord's will, you just make peace with it and ask God for strength."

"Do you understand that all you need to do is be baptized and go to church to be a christian right?"

"What? No, sure that's what you do but to believe in God you have to give your life to Jesus and bring him into conversations. And having a firm faith."

"A firm faith?" Jess looked confused.

"Yeah, for a strong and firm faith you need to know God's word and guard you heart from Satan.

Jess studied her she looked skeptic, "Okay then, how would one guard their heart from Satan."

"You surround yourself with the word of God and understand what God told us through Isaiah: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways."

"Think about it like this, when something bad happens like Clara says something, you get frustrated, and your heart becomes bitter, well Satan comes into your heart and takes advantage of that bitterness."

"So by having Jesus Christ in your heart, you get feeling of safety and love and you don't want to lose it. And Satan can't feed from all that love."

Jess looked shocked, "Where the heck did you learn all that?"

Emma laughed, "My pastor likes to put things into perspective."

"We go to the same church, and yet one of us does pay attention and I don't, how."

Emma smiled, "You don't have a mom nudging you every second?"

Jess laughed, "I should get my mom to do that!"

They got to Jess's house and Emma walked to Fu's place, she knocked the door and Mr. Fu was sitting cross legged with his bible open in front of him. "Hello Emma."

"Hi, do you have a customer coming?"He smiled, "He should be here in fifteen minutes, have you ever read Ephesians Chapter 5 Verse 16?"

Emma sat in front of him, "No, what is it about?"

He handed the old worn bible to her, "It is the blue highlighted one."

She looked down and smiled, 'making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.'

"Tell me about your family Emma."

Emma had to think of a way to describe them, "My mom was born in china and left with her sister when she was twenty to join the military, and my dad's parents were from Italy."

"I can that you have your father's features but you're mom's hair."

"Thank you, but what does this have to do with the verse you showed me?"

"Why are you in such a rush all the time?"

Emma couldn't think of a reason why she was always late. "I don't know."

Mr. Fu studied her, he was about say something when the door, "Well it looked like Mr. Brown is here."
