The forests of northern Idaho were once a beautiful and serene area where the animals roamed around and the water glimmered in the sunlight. That is... until they showed up.
The creatures moved into the forests of northern Idaho about a century ago. In Canada, they became a scary camp story but, little did they know, these creatures were real. They were known as the Faceless.
Not to be misunderstood, the forests still hold much of the beauty that use to encompass them but, now, it's an eerie beauty. Many animals that once roamed the land have migrated away from the forests and, those that do stay, are few and far in between.
Many who ventured into the forests never came back the same, if they came back at all. Seeing the Faceless was enough to scar people for life and, in some instances, drive them insane.
The stories were always the same. They would look into the woods and see a figure staring back at them. There was no face though - it was just a tall, and pale, person in casual clothes standing still, with what seemed to the front of their face looking back. It was like a mannequin was staring back at them, a mannequin with a flat face and a crooked head. The further people went into the forest, the more of them that showed up.
For those that camped in the forest, a different experience awaited them. Even when campers didn't see the Faceless, the Faceless saw them, in a manner of speaking. Campers would hear various noises throughout the night, from gurgling to animals noises. Some even reported that they heard the voices of people they knew, even sometimes the person right next to them.
Even those on the outskirts of the forest weren't safe. Many would report seeing the Faceless standing on the edge of roads watching drivers pass by. Those that worked in gas stations would tell others of how groups of mannequins would stand on the other side of the road, at the edge of the forest, staring at the cashier through the window with their blank faces.
Those around the forests were terrified of the force within. Groups have been formed to scour the forests for the Faceless and even news organizations would attempt to get footage of the creatures. Their efforts were futile.
Many did not believe in the myth of the Faceless and many believed the residents near northern Idaho were just superstitious. Those that didn't believe in the tales built homes in the forests.
Jacob Matthews built hotels and motels and used the legend of the Faceless as a tourist attraction. Tourists would tell Matthews that they would hear screaming coming from the woods, and some said they saw floating figures in the sky. Of course, this was brushed off as part of the Faceless experience.
About two years later, Matthews went missing and his various motels shutdown and the manor that he and his family had taken residency in had been abandoned. His old motel staff gave the police various reports, but all related back to the Faceless. They all confirmed that Matthews was acting more and more paranoid as the months went by and that he began talking more and more about the Faceless and how his home was haunted. The stories of where he could have gone were all different, but one thing was for certain, he was never found.
Since Matthew's disappearance, the residents around the forests have warned the adventurous against visiting the forests. However, everyone likes a good scary story and so, as to be expected, the efforts of the residents were mostly futile.
Various new homes have been constructed in the months since Matthews disappearance and many more people have gone missing in the forests. This wouldn't deter the Porter family, however. The forest was too beautiful and the house too cheap to pass up for Edward Porter. Little did he know what its beauty would cost.
