Her head was throbbing and she was struggling to swallow. She slowly rose to her feet and saw that the window in Aaron's bedroom had been shattered. Realization quickly hit her and she looked all around, panicking. Where was Aaron?
She was struggling to remember but seemed to have remembered that Edward is there. Or at least, was there.
Sarah brushed her hand across the back of her head and felt blood thickening on her hair. She was struggling to remember what had happened. Of course she left home this morning and came to Aaron's. They talked for a bit and then...
Shame overwhelmed her. What had she done?
"No, no, no..." She said repeatedly. "I couldn't have."
Why did she have an affair with him? She was happy with Edward. No, she had to be remembering things wrong. She would never sleep with Aaron, she was sure of it. Tears rolled down her face as she sat on the bed and sobbed. What had overcome her? Everything that she wanted out of her marriage was finally given to her on a silver platter and what did she do? Destroyed it.
No, it had to be a dream. But if it was a dream, why was she in Aaron's house? Why was she covered in a towel - her hair still soaking wet.
So perhaps she did sleep with Aaron. But she promised she didn't mean it. Did she?
Okay Sarah, what happened next?
She thought about Aaron pushing up against her on the glass wall of the shower, their mouths interconnected. If memory was to serve her well, it was the best she had had it in a long time. It was the best she ever had it.
Quickly slapping her head, Sarah snapped out of it.
"Alright, I may have been in the shower with Aaron." She had hoped she just needed to borrow it. "Then we got out of the shower and..."
Then there was banging against Aaron's door. Sarah was pretty sure it was Edward. Who else could it be? Who else could have stormed into Aaron's home and shattered the glass. That part still didn't make sense. In fact, where was Aaron?
Focus, Sarah.
"Okay, so Edward must have got in. Maybe Aaron let him in?" That didn't seem likely. "Then Edward stormed into the bedroom and said something to me."
The pain in the back of her head felt even stronger now. She felt like she was losing a lot of blood and was going to pass out at any moment. But she had to remember.
"Edward said something and then fought with Aaron. I hit him and then he held me up against a wall." Sarah could remember Edward squeezing as his eyes seemingly had no sympathy in them. Perhaps he had been wanting to kill her.
Then everything happened so fast. Aaron got up and stopped Edward.
Right?
Then something happened and then Aaron and Edward went through the window. That was all that Sarah could remember. She looked around the room, noticing the blood staining the carpet on the other side of the room.
Everything that had happened, happened because of Sarah. But she promised herself, she would never cheat on Edward again. Yet, she did. She cheated on him again and she didn't know why. She cheated on him again and she knew that he would never forgive her. But, maybe it didn't matter.
Of course it matters you fucking idiot. You destroyed everything you two had together. Isaac and Lillian are going to be devastated.
The children would be destroyed from this. Edward would leave Sarah and her children would hate her for what she's done. Perhaps Edward was right, maybe Sarah did deserve to go to hell.
She slid down the wall, feeling all of her emotions hit her. Was the attractive dad of one of the children she took care of really worth everything that she had destroyed? Maybe. But now he was gone too.
Outside of the window held the answers.
Sarah slowly stood back up, fixing her towel from falling off. She stepped up onto the bed and felt the cold breeze hit her. The little bit of sun that was hidden behind the clouds glared in her eyes.
Her eyes adjusted to the light when she noticed a body laying on the ground. A little gasp came out of her and she tip toed over the broken window out into the snow. Her feet froze to the bone with every step she took.
Sarah's body trembled, both from the cold piercing her skin and the fear of whose body laid in front of her. She reached her hand down and pulled it over.
It wasn't a face of anyone, Aaron or Edward. It wasn't the face of anyone she even knew. In fact, it wasn't a face, but skin covering what should be a face. She took several steps back, feeling her breathing becoming frantic.
The body slowly rose up and all around Sarah, she heard giggling.
"Mommy!" A voice yelled. She turned around but saw nothing - only heard the malicious laughter.
She turned back around and the corpse without a face stood before her, its head cocked to the side.
The blood rushed to her head and the last thing she remembered was a scream.
