Alex groaned and sat up slowly and looked around. His eyes were soar and he felt like death, something moved and a figure stood leaning in the doorway of the room.
“Good, you’re awake” they said, Alex squinted and frowned as he tried to let his eyes focus.
“Who…” he stopped and looked around again when his vision cleared, the room was decorated with lots of potted plants and shelves of all sorts of herbs and potions.
“Heh, you don't remember…” the person said with a slight chuckle, Alex shook his head and stared at the black haired, blue eyed male wearing all white.
“I’m Ren. i saved you from that forest after you passed out” he explained, Alex blinked.
“I…I passed out?”
Ren nodded and sighed.
“Your name's Alex right?” he questioned with a scowl. Of course he was Alex, Ren knew that.
Alex shifted uncomfortably.
“I- i don't know…” he said scratching his head, Ren frowned.
As Alex went to stand Ren shook his head “I don't recommend standing, you cracked your leg pretty good back there” he said, Alex winced as the pain finally settled in.
“Found this on ya if you want to read it to pass the time while you heal” Ren said tossing Alex a journal colored in blues of all sorts, an ocean sigil sat atop the leather that bound it.
Alex took it and looked back up to see the doorway empty, He looked at the journal and opened it.
Ren whistled gently as he poured a purple substance into a bowl followed by some herbs when the door to his home opened slowly. “Ren.” he looked up to see Void standing in the doorway, his height was almost menacing.
“Ah- your majesty…did you need something?” he questioned, Void nodded and sat down at a table. Ren flicked his fingers towards the door and it shut swiftly.
“Can you find anything to cure a sickness that's incurable?” he asked, Ren stared at him like he was crazy.
Void sighed “please?” he asked, Ren frowned.
“Can I ask why?” he requested, Void looked away in silence.
“People are getting sick…I think it's a plague. I've tried healing them but it doesn't work.” Void said, Ren scowled.
“A plague huh?” he mused, Void rolled his eyes.
“I'm serious ren. You're the strongest healer I know here.” he said, Ren laughed out loud.
“Your majesty, I am not a healer. I'm a warlock, I mess with potions and magic- not healing remedies. If you want to find someone who does mess with medicinal methods go find the mushroom queen or even the king of Flora.” he explained with a taunting smile, Void sighed and stood slowly.
“Thank you”
Void walked to the door and reached for the knob when Ren spoke again.
“Also… I'd stop messing around with Sora as a friend. He’s a bad man.” Ren said, Void looked at him over his shoulder.
“Explain?”
Ren sighed and stopped mixing his potion.
“The vibes he gives off…the way he treats others when you're not paying attention…that and I saw him poison a guy once, that man is messed up in the head. It's just a warning. Because sooner or later he’ll cause your home to turn on you.” Ren spoke, Void tensed and nodded before walking out.
“Who was that…” a small voice interjected, Ren turned to see Alex sitting on the floor. He must’ve fallen on the last step.
“You should’ve stayed upstairs” Ren said, helping him up and over to the table, Alex frowned.
“Sorry…” he mumbled, Ren couldn’t help but smile. “Who was that…?” Alex asked, quickly recovering.
Ren sighed, “you sure are persistent” he said, Alex watched him with a blank expression. “That was Void. the king of this kingdom…” he replied, Alex cocked his head to the side.
“Like the guy from the book?” he asked, Ren turned to him and chuckled.
“I guess, I wouldn't know. The book didn't open for me”, Alex nodded.
“And you're Ren…my lover?” he said quietly, Ren spit out the water he was drinking before laughing.
“Ha! Hardly- i mean…we knew we liked each other but that didn't last long..” he said, Alex raised an eyebrow and Ren smiled slightly. “We used to be good friends back in our home town til I opened a portal I shouldn't have and we fused, fell through and my last resort was telling you I loved you. That didn't go well because you got yourself into trouble with a watchdog and got her trapped in a pocket dimension and in doing so split us apart when technically I've always been a part of you even when we were friends. You are me and I'm you.” he said, Alex stared letting the information process before his brows furrowed.
“What do you mean…”
Ren sighed and took a swig of water.
“Think of it this way…I'm your shadow and you are my body. We split so technically I'm a poltergeist of some sorts and you’re a walking zombie.” he rephrased, Alex nodded slightly.
“Then how did i have feelings…in the book i did.” he said, Ren shrugged.
“Who knows maybe our feelings split when we did and you ended up taking the innocent ones until you found out about Dove dying and you snapped and poof they’re back with me” he said, Alex looked around the lower level kitchen of his house.
“Oh” was all he could manage.
It was silent for a few minutes as Ren returned to whatever he was making Alex looked around curiously as he sat at the table. When he looked out the window he frowned.
“I'm not supposed to be here…” he said, Ren raised an eyebrow.
“Say again?”
“I can't be here…” Alex repeated, Ren cocked an eyebrow. “The king banned me…i said something rude…and he told me never to return again” he finished, Ren frowned.
“That sounds like him, he’s quite stubborn. But he’s been through a lot he knows what he’s doing…and as for you being banned, we’ll just have to keep you a secret” he said, Alex nodded.
“What about Oceannia?”
Ren groaned. So many questions.
“I’m sure it’s fine…” Ren replied, not entirely sure himself.
“But won't they think I've gone missing? Don't people worry?” Alex asked, Ren rolled his eyes.
“No. People hardly actually worry. If they say they do, they are a liar. Everyone in this world is.” he said, Alex looked at Ren and watched as his wavy black hair bounced a little as he walked across the room.
“The world is just full of betrayal and hatred…” Alex mumbled, Ren smiled.
“Exactly, now eat up” he said handing Alex a bowl, Alex eyed the concoction.
“What is it-”
Ren glared.
“Just eat it.”

About a week later Alex was up and walking around again, he didn’t bother Ren too much and mostly stuck to himself. Even now he was sitting quietly on the bed reading a book, when ren walked in with a piece of parchment.
“Congrats, you were right. You now have a missing persons paper” he said, Alex closed his book and raised an eyebrow.
“Maybe your people really do care about you…” He said, Alex shook his head.
Ren raised an eyebrow “no?” he said slowly.
Alex frowned “if they did they wouldnt try to hurt me for being gay” he said, Ren blinked before weighing the words in his head.
“Good point”
It was quiet for a few seconds and Ren sighed “why don't you go back? You don't have to stay here” he said, Alex frowned.
“Why should i? I'm not the king they had before- if I go back now I won't be able to rule over so many people” he said, Ren frowned and picked up his book. He thought for a moment before turning back to Alex.
“I have an idea,” he said.
Alex blinked.
“I might have a spell somewhere that can fuse us back together…” he said, Alex stared and Ren smirked.
“Wanna try it out?” he asked, Alex thought for a second before nodding.
“Good”

“Okay, Stand over there” Ren pointed to the east side of the chalked out circle he had just drawn, Alex nodded and stood and Ren stood on the west “take my hands” he said, Alex nodded and took his hands. Something between them sizzled and he shivered, Ren did the same and glanced up at Alex.
“Now…while I chant you might feel a little weird so don't break the circle. And most importantly, don't lose focus," Alex nodded. Ren nodded and closed his eyes and started out slow then quickened.
The feeling of water tickled their feet and wind blew around them, Alex’s hair whipped around him and Ren’s hat flew off. Alex gasped when his eyes turned white, the candles around them dimmed and the circle glowed a bright blue. As the candles burned down Ren turned to smoke and Alex continued the chant, he inhaled and the smoke trailed into his mouth and down his throat.
The last candles went out and so did the circle before Alex gasped and clutched his knees as he caught his breath. As he went to stand he was hit with a wave of vertigo and his eyes flashed dark blue. All his memories flooded back to him, even Ren’s. He fell to the ground and clutched his head as they all bombarded him in one swift move, when it was over he sat there for a couple minutes and stared at the floor.
He groaned and stood up when the door opened and Void looked down at him in shock. “A-Alex?”
Alex scoffed and looked away as he gripped the stairwell railing, he tripped and Void caught him helping him stand.
“You shouldn't be here.” he said, Alex rolled his eyes.
“I don't want to be here.” he snapped, Void looked away hurt. Alex frowned and ripped his arm from Ren and grabbed Ren’s staff.
“Then why are you here?” he asked, Alex shook his head with a smile.
“Because I passed out. And Ren found me. To make a long story short, Ren is me and I'm him.” he explained, Void stared confused.
Alex patted Void’s shoulder “don't worry i was just leaving” he said, Void stood there as Alex walked away before grabbing Alex’s arm.
“You can't go back to Oceannia.”
Alex scowled “and why not.” he snapped, Void frowned.
“Sora…ren was- you were right. He's a bad person. He took over. Oceannia is in chaos, you can't go back” he said he frowned “you’ll get killed” he croaked out in a whisper, Alex smirked.
“Last I heard you wanted me dead.” he said as he walked out, Void stood there in silence.
Alex jumped off his horse and landed gently on the balcony of his office, he swung open the door and stepped in.
"Jord." He snapped as he slammed open the door to the meeting room where Sora sat, he looked up. His eyes widened before he sneered at Alex, Jord looked up and he stood quickly dragging Alex from the room.
"Where have you been? " he spoke in a low whisper, Alex ran his fingers through his hair.
"I had something important to do. What the hell happened here. Why is he in my seat? " Alex growled, jord sighed.
"He took over, forcefully… we had no choice but to let him because you were missing for about a month Alex. " he explained.
Alex scowled.
"How do I fix this? "
Jord sighed "it usually only works if you marry… Because then we have two powerful rulers. " he said, Alex frowned.
"Marriage. Really? " he snapped, Jord nodded and Alex sighed.
"To whom? "
"I would assume one of the highest families here" he said, "probably the Phinsins" he said. Alex sighed.
"They have a powerful daughter, she's divine. She's your best bet. " he said, Alex frowned.
"But it's an arranged marriage. "
Jord shrugged and Alex groaned. "Fine."
Jord's eyes lit up and he grabbed parchment and a pen, Alex went to walk away and Jord stopped him.
"Oh, Alex… you may not want to stay here. Sora wants you dead. He wants all the kingdoms dead. Find someplace safe to go and then send me a letter. " he said, Alex nodded.
He hesitated before grinning to himself sinisterly "oh, jord. " he said turning to Jord, Jord looked up from writing the marriage proposal.
"Make sure Sora is invited. " he smirked, Jord looked surprised but nodded.
