“Dante, why are we in an abandoned hotel?” I questioned, glancing back at him.
He just smiled down at me, the wind lightly blowing his hair across his face. “This is the place our game happens.”
“Game?” I echoed, brows drawing together. “I thought we were playing chess or something.”
He smiled and step forward, grasping the front doors and tearing them open.
I winced when grime and dust sprinkled around me, and I gazed back up when it settled.
“You agreed to my terms without the details of the game,” Dante told me with a smile, stepping back toward me.
“This place gives me the creeps,” I told him.
He just lightly caught my back and pushed me forward, making me stumble as I shot him a look.
He smirked. “A deal’s a deal.”
I gritted my teeth then and stepped forward into the hotel, watching the walls carefully as the darkness inside the main lobby grew with his amusement.
The doors suddenly slammed shut behind me, and I cried out, flipping around.
The room was pitch black, and I breathed shakily when all I saw behind me were two glowing red eyes.
Dante.
I breathed uneasily. “Dante, you’re scaring me.”
“Am I scaring you?” he echoed. “Or exciting you?”
I breathed uneasily as a buzz ran through me. “I’m not like that.”
“No?” he said then, chuckling as he circled around me. “I think you’re lying.”
He’s right. I was. I was lying.
I was horrified, but I knew he wouldn’t hurt me... and knowing that... made me excited. Made me feel powerful.
I flipped around to keep my eyes on his. “What are you doing?”
“A deal’s a deal,” he said in a dark tone. “Here’s the game. Don’t let me catch you.”
I breathed shakily. “What?”
“Don’t let me catch you,” he repeated. “You have ten minutes to evade me. If the time runs out and I don’t catch you, you win. If I catch you before time runs out, I win.”
“But it’s dark!” I argued.
“You can see my eyes,” he responded. “Therefore you have an advantage.”
“But you can see in the dark!” I said to him.
He chuckled, making my breaths shake. “Indeed, I can. But my hearing is better. So you should be quiet, my prince.”
Yes, but that doesn’t make this any less horrifying.
The buzz running through me was going to falter my game... this was bad.
Or was it really bad?
I caught my breath and stared up at him. “This isn’t fair.”
“You agreed to the contract terms without asking the details of the game, master,” he stated matter of factly. “This is your problem.”
“I think you’re just messing with me,” I responded. “I think you’re full of shit.”
His eyes glowed a bright red as he stared at me.
I breathed shakily. “What are you doing?”
“Giving you a ten second head start,” he said then. “And you’re wasting it.”
I bolted then.
His chuckle echoed through the room, and I breathed shakily when I dashed through the darkness, my eyes adjusting briefly so I could see walls and small obsticals.
“Ready or not!” he called, making me glance back shakily. “Here I come!”
I heard a whoosh! like a flutter of feathers, but I kept running, my breaths straining as I dashed through the broken halls.
My soul was crushing, my veins buzzing, my sense of self draining from me at every movement I made.
I was scared.
No.
I was excited.
I was elated.
A smile crossed my face as I continued running down the halls, and I continued before finding another small dip in the wall, signifying another pathway.
Yes, I could go there and avade him.
But a glow of red eyes glistened in the darkness ahead of me.
I scrambled to a stop, breaths shaking.
Dante stood there, smile crossing his face as he twirled a knife in his hand.
My eyes grew, the buzz inside me coursing through my veins in acid.
“I’m the shadows in the street,” he sang as I backed away. “Looking for a feast. You say man down, yeah! There’s another one deceased!”
He shot the knife at me, and I screamed, wincing as it flew inches past my face and sliced into the wall yards behind me.
I glanced back at it before looking over at him. “You could’ve stabbed me!”
His smile darkened. “If I wanted to stab you, I wouldn’t have missed.”
I just swallowed something hard, the euphoria in my veins pounding faster with every heartbeat. “You’re insane!”
“I am a demon, master,” he responded, eyes glowing brighter in the darkness. “It’s in my nature. And you’re half-demon. It’s in your nature to be a little twisted. There’s no need to deny it.”
I took a couple steps back before I saw him pull another knife from his pocket, flipping it open.
I screamed and spun around, bolting again.
His low chuckle echoed through the halls, and I breathed shakily as my heart beat faster every second.
“Oh, how I love knives,” he said, following after me slowly as he scraped the endge of the blade against the wall, sending a searing scream through my ears as I glanced back at him.
His eyes were the only thing I could see... everything else was darkness.
“Your heartbeat’s picking up,” he continued, making my bones chill and spread through me like waves of elation. “Are you enjoying this, master?”
“You’re insane!” I responded.
He chuckled again. “There’s no need to be afraid. You know I can’t hurt you.”
I heard his arm shoot forward, and another blade slid inches past my face before slicing into the wall ahead of me.
A massive amount of euphoria consumed me, and I could feel every part of me shaking... the bitter cold growing into my bones.
But I... but I liked it.
I glanced back at him uneasily, breaths shaking.
His smile remained. “You have five minutes, master.”
Five?
I kept running, though, looking back forward to see where I was going.
He suddenly appeared in front of me.
I screamed in response, but my body acted on it’s own and I fell to the ground, sliding from under him as he blinked in surpise.
I just tumbled onto my back before getting back onto my feet, and I started running again.
“Smart one, aren’t you?” Dante said then, chuckling. “Although... I’m faster.”
I then ran quicker and burst through a pair of doors, gasping as I ran down a bunch of stairs before I met a small basement.
I then glanced around nervously, finding myself cornered.
The moment I heard the basement door open, I scrambled over to a couch, sliding behind it.
I caught my breath, feeling myself gasping uncontrollably from all my running.
I covered my mouth, hoping to muffle it a little.
“Maaaaaaaaaster,” Dante sang, “where arrrrrrrrre you?”
I kept catching my breath, heart pounding hard against my chest.
“You can’t run foreeeeeever,” he continued singing. “I’ll fiiiiiiiind you.”
I kept struggling to breathe, hiding behind the couch.
He suddenly sniffed the air, making me still.
“Found you.”
And the couch suddenly slammed to the side, making me scream when it crashed to the wall across from me.
Dante stood there, a smile crossing his face as he stared down at me.
My heart pounded harder as my eyes locked on his sadistic smile... his glowing red eyes slit like a cat, his shadow-like apearance.
Oh, god... I was burning.
Dante just knelt down. “Is someone frozen in place?”
I watched him carefully, struggling to soothe my shivers.
His eyes flashed a bright red. “Lucky for me.”
He shot out, making me shrink back when he slammed his hand into the wall behind me, and I gazed into his dangerous expression, watching my reflection in his eyes... how I looked pale and horrifed but... amazed.
What have I become?
His smile darkened as he leaned down, face inches from mine.
I breathed shakily, closing my eyes as his hot breath warmed my cheeks.
He just leaned forward, and further...
And clasped his lips with mine.
I gave into him, leaning into the kiss as the rest of my body remained still and shooken with fear and excitement.
He tasted like mint... his breath so hot... his body like a heater against mine.
My lashes shut tighter.
He smelled like the forest... his entire being burning me alive and reconstructing me again.
Dante just released my lips and pressed kisses along my cheekbone, making me tip my head up when he dropped to his knees and trailed his lips along the front of my throat.
When he made it to the nape of my neck, he gently bit the skin.
I winced, prepared for him to slice his fangs into me.
But he just pulled away and pecked the skin, his breath so hot against my entire being.
He just pressed another kiss along the side of my neck, lips curling into a smirk. “I win.”
My lashes fluttered open.
And two seconds later, his phone rang, signifying the end of the ten minutes.
I gasped when he pulled away, the entire moment flooding back into my being as I stared up at him in horror.
His smile only darkened, and he tapped my lips twice before standing up straighter.
I slumped against the wall, staring off into space when dread consumed me.
I lost.
I fucking lost.
My breaths shook.
But why am I not angry? Why don’t I want to fight him and yell at him?
Dante just leaned down again, making me gaze up hazily as he lightly ran his thumb along my bottom lip.
He just smiled. “Look at you... shaking like a washing machine. Poor thing. Did I scare you that much?”
Yes.
He just ran his thumb under my eye patch, making me catch my breath. “You’ll be alright. When I get you home, let’s prepare you a nice bath and some salts. I think that might be good for you.”
My brows drew together.
He won... why was he being nice to me?
“Aren’t you... going to make me do things...?” I said then.
He just tipped his head to the side. “Why, yes, I am. As a matter of fact. I want to force you to learn your lesson for being brat. I want you to succumb to me like a good master. I want you to follow my demands to my hearts content, that is the deal we made, no?”
My soul clenched deep inside me, secretly longing for it, but I shoved it down. “Then why are you taking care of me?”
He smiled then, softer. “Because you are still my master. And it is still my duty to protect you and care for you. Don’t you remember?”
I lightly caught my side, remembering all those years ago when I signed my contract with him. “Yes... I remember.”
“Come, now, master,” he said then, holding out his hand.
“Carry me,” I said then.
His smile grew a little. “My, someone’s acting quite the spoiled brat, aren’t we?”
“I’m... tired...” I said then, looking away. “I haven’t had that much excersise in years.”
He just chuckled, lightly catching my arm and helping me up. “Alright. Yes, I will carry you, master. And then we will have a nice night together.”
My brows drew together as he scooped me up. “Are you going to make me do explicit things?”
“No,” he said then, starting to walk out, “that wouldn’t be kind of me.”
I glared then. “Why did you dodge the question when I asked for the rule of no explicit things?”
“Because it’s fun to make you angry,” he said then, gazing down at me with a smile. “And besides... it’s against our contract. My duty is to protect you and keep you safe, forcing you to do things that you don’t want to do is against the contract...” he gazed up then, “and my morals, as well.”
“Your morals?” I echoed. “That’s new.”
“I know it’s odd, but I do have them.”
“But you kill people,” I stated then.
He just gazed down at me, lashes lowering. “My morals only contain you, my lord. For it is you that I care about the most.”
My cheeks burned a bright pink, and I looked away.
