Peter’s dad, Cody, was patiently waiting in his car, but he was starting to grow bored.193Please respect copyright.PENANAvFup6p8gUx
“I’m so bored,” he said, and yawning, he leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms, “Where is that fairy?” He groaned and turned his head to the right. Next to him, sitting on the passenger seat, was a bazooka-like machine. Mr. Nelson added with, “I want to try my new Anti-Fairy Escape Bazooka.” Again, he groaned.
For a little bit longer, Mr. Nelson waited with his arm dangling out the open window, but then, from outside, he heard flapping. The rays of the setting sun scanned his car, and gasping, Mr. Nelson shot straight up and pulled off his sunglasses. Rubbing his nose, he peered out the windshield and saw that a figure was flying toward Makenna’s school and his car. It was Gina! She had made it! She was soaring on the air currents, and she had a desperate look on her face. She was moving very quickly. Tracey was getting worse and worse by the second. Time was running out. She and Caleb had to make this rescue quick so they could get him a doctor.
Tracey was semiconscious. He had not opened his eyes since he left Caleb’s room. His clothes had turned pale again. Caleb was holding him in his arms, and he rested his palm on his forehead. Tracey moaned. Sweat fountained down his face and soaked him even more than he already was.193Please respect copyright.PENANAGOQiqy5a67
Caleb told him, “Hang in there, Tracey. You’ve got to. You can do it. I know you can do it. Don’t worry, we just made it to Makenna’s school. Tracey!” He grabbed his chin and shook it, “Stay with us! Please stay with us! Gina.” He glanced into Gina’s eyes, “He’s getting worse! We’ve got to move!” Gina twisted her neck and peered back to him. Though she was worried, she tried to add a little light to the situation.193Please respect copyright.PENANAvd25oy4VqL
She chuckled and told Tracey and Caleb through telepathy, “Attention passengers riding Gina Air, we will soon be landing at Johns Island High School. Please collect all your valuables and wings before dismounting the aircraft. Thank you.” She again chuckled, “Well, how do you two like my pilot impersonation? Are y’all ready to jump?” Caleb wanted to make a dramatic entrance, like how Tracey usually did, so he decided that both he and Merlin’s apprentice would leap from Gina’s back, return to their normal heights, and at the same time, land in front of the school’s front doors. Caleb considered that to be a dramatic entrance. He really just wanted to try his new powers.193Please respect copyright.PENANAReL4dmxpFl
He again glanced into Gina’s eyes, and he told her, “In just a sec, Gina. I’ve never jumped from a bird before.”
From his car, Mr. Nelson had grown super, super excited. He had a really good feeling about this bird coming toward the school. He remembered Peter mentioned that Tracey had a pet tern. He quickly reached into the back seat of his car and pulled out another pair of binoculars except these binoculars were special, high-tech binoculars, his own invention, which could zoom in and out on things, kind of similar to Luke’s binoculars in Star Wars.193Please respect copyright.PENANA1D0oBCHwCj
After pulling out the binoculars, Mr. Nelson next grabbed his bazooka and loaded it. “This is it!” he announced in an excited voice. He took a few deep breaths, and when he was ready, he opened the door to his car and climbed out. He stumbled but managed to catch himself. Mr. Nelson closed the car door with his shoe and peered into the sky, in the direction of Gina. He put the strap of the bazooka over his head and let it dangle. He then lifted the special binoculars and put them to his eyes. With them, Cody zoomed in on Gina and pressed a button on top that zoomed in on her back and made the picture clear. He held his breath, and his eyes widened. There he was! There was Tracey! Cody recognized him instantly by his green and purple. He gasped. “There he is!” he cried out, “It’s him! I’ve found him! Holy guacamole!” He whooped.
Mr. Nelson’s binoculars next zoomed in on Caleb. He held Tracey by the hand, and he had outlined him in orange magic that would allow him to fly momentarily unless Caleb let his hand go. It was the same spell Makenna had performed on Tracey back on Merlin’s Island and the same spell Tracey had performed on her when she was just learning how to fly. Caleb, Gina, and Tracey were totally unaware of Cody Nelson spying on them.193Please respect copyright.PENANAi2MS5wMooj
He was still studying Caleb through the binoculars, and he asked, “Who is that other boy? Is he another fairy? Oh boy!” His face brightened, “What a prize! Another real fairy! Oh man, it’s my lucky day!” Cody lowered the binoculars and set them down next to his ankle. Standing back up, he next took the strap of the bazooka off his shoulder and held it up to Gina. “Come on, a little closer,” he said, and he took aim, “That’s it. That’s it. Wait for it. Wait for it, Cody. You don’t want the bird. You want Tracey.”
Where oblivious Gina was, she chuckled one last time and asked Caleb,193Please respect copyright.PENANAdZuUieKNgd
“Well, are you jumping or not?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAv4m4qTQ7v2
“We are. We’re just getting ready. All right, it’s show time.” Young Caleb sniffed and closed his eyes. He focused his attention and thought about being big. He then turned his head in the direction of Tracey and said in his head, “And him too. He can’t perform a spell right now. He’s too weak. This is all up to me now.” Caleb opened his eyes. He nodded at Gina, and she nodded back. Finally, the eleven-year-old yelled, “Tallyho!” and he leaped from Gina’s back and took Tracey with him.
At the same time, both magical beings returned to their normal heights, and from where he was standing, Cody yelled, “Fire!” and he pulled back the trigger of his bazooka. A net shot out of it and went toward Tracey! The bazooka shot with so much force that Cody was knocked to the ground. However, he quickly sat up and watched his invention.
Gina saw the net coming toward Tracey, and she gasped, yelling,193Please respect copyright.PENANAxZugk3iqyF
“Incoming!” in her language. She was squawking. Tracey’s hand had slipped from Caleb’s grip, he was so sweaty, and he fell toward the ground.193Please respect copyright.PENANAHRRLsHTNc7
Caleb gasped, “Tracey!” and he saw the net coming toward him, “What the?! Where did that come from?! Tracey watch out!” Caleb was too late. Cody’s invention succeeded.
The net reached Tracey, flung itself on top of him, and knocked him out of the sky! The fairy yelled and crashed into the school’s grassy courtyard.193Please respect copyright.PENANAaKuih1yEtD
Caleb landed on his feet in the parking lot and yelled, “Tracey!” when he saw that he had been captured. He didn’t waste any time. He sprinted toward the courtyard, and Gina flew right next to him.
Where Cody sat, his eyes landed on the net in the courtyard, and he cheered,193Please respect copyright.PENANAMwUgHLMixr
“I got him! Yes! I caught a real live fairy!” Mr. Nelson slipped the strap of his bazooka back over his head and picked up his binoculars. He hurried toward his prize. Mr. Nelson made it to him before Caleb did. At the sight of Tracey, his eyes watered, and he chuckled. He circled the net a few times, and still chuckling, said, “Oh, oh, oh. Hello, my little friend. Do you remember me? It’s been seven years, and I finally caught you! This is by far the best day of my life.”
Tracey was resting on his front with his eyes closed and teeth clenched tightly together. He didn’t even make an attempt to release himself. He was way too weak.193Please respect copyright.PENANAfDVWKrpJLV
Mr. Nelson stopped at his head of black hair and rubbed his eyes, “This is a dream come true. I knew fairies were real! I knew it!” He quickly set his binoculars down again and reached into his bag that he wore over his shoulder. From it, Mr. Nelson drew his camera, – the same camera he used before to get a snapshot of Tracey’s flapping wings – and he held it up to him.193Please respect copyright.PENANAwxlTjKPJXz
Cody prepared to take a picture, but just before he could, suddenly a, “Stop! Leave him alone!” was heard, and a sudden beam of orange light smashed into the camera Mr. Nelson held and threw it from his hand. He yelled and grabbed his wrist. Believe it or not, but Caleb was the one who had attacked him! He had reached Tracey, – he was standing further away from him – and he was holding cupped hands out to Mr. Nelson. Gina was hovering next to him. Caleb had a confused look glued on his face, but she was seeming to smile.193Please respect copyright.PENANA7l4XoHfL9f
Glancing at him, through telepathy, she said, “You did it, Caleb. You shot a spell.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAO8dNTwFWfH
Caleb met her eyes, still confused, and glanced at his hands, “It just happened.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAIbB8PTux2P
Gina seemed to chuckle, “I knew you had fairy instincts.”
Mr. Nelson massaged his wrist and asked,193Please respect copyright.PENANA4emggSrxfs
“Now what have we got here?” when he saw Gina and Caleb, “Who are you supposed to be, kid? Who’s your little bird?”193Please respect copyright.PENANA1XoZoZmoC5
“That’s none of your business!” Caleb shouted, and he pointed at Tracey, “Release him! He’s done nothing wrong!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAXqUYpe2SJM
“Make me,” voiced Cody, and he slowly started to reach for his bazooka again, “I’d rather not. For seven long years, kid, I’ve searched for this boy. I saw him snooping at Makenna Delling’s house when he was younger. He’s a fairy, kid!” Caleb again looked a little confused. Why was Tracey snooping at his and Makenna’s house seven years ago? He decided to ask him later.193Please respect copyright.PENANAdtLXY6WfvV
Instead, he yelled, “I know!” at Mr. Nelson, “I know he’s a fairy, sir, but that doesn’t give you the right to knock him out of the sky like that! He’s critically wounded! He’s dying! He needs a doctor!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAwVHWfRmZSM
“Well then you should’ve called 911 before he was caught.” Mr. Nelson spoke, “I’m not giving up my prize, kid. It’s been seven years! I’m going to use him as bait to get Makenna Delling!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAETNTGYCSbj
“Makenna?” asked Caleb, “Tracey as bait? You wouldn’t dare! How do you know Makenna’s a fairy too?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAm0AL8Iks9e
“My son told me.” Cody explained.193Please respect copyright.PENANAQCriqVbYlQ
Caleb’s eyes widened, “Wait, are you Peter Nelson’s dad?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAImTMi3HZ9g
Cody nodded, “I am, and who are you supposed to be, Makenna’s brother?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAZgdX240W4t
“That’s exactly who I am!” shouted Caleb, “Makenna’s my sister! My name is Caleb, and I’ll do everything in my willpower to rescue both her and Tracey from yours and Peter’s clutches!” He again pointed at Tracey, “Release him! If you won’t release him, sir, then we’ll do this the hard way!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAGdRCTNi9n9
“You tell him, Caleb!” Gina squawked in her language. She landed on Caleb’s head and opened her wings.193Please respect copyright.PENANAXp1V8f8mKQ
He clenched his fists and held them out to Mr. Nelson. “Ha!” he sarcastically laughed, and he met Caleb’s eyes, “And what are you going to do, boy? What are you going to fight me with?” Caleb glared and cupped his hands which a ball of orange light appeared in them. Mr. Nelson glanced at it and asked, “Huh?” Caleb attempted to shoot the spell at him, but because he hadn’t come of age yet and hadn’t learned how to properly use his powers, it backfired on him. Caleb was thrown backwards, with Gina, and he crashed into the hood of a car. From where Mr. Nelson was standing, he said, “Ooh!” and reached for his lips, “That hurt! Epic fail!” Caleb fell from the car’s hood and landed on his back in the parking lot. Both he and Gina had been knocked out.
Cody Nelson quickly slipped both his camera and binoculars into his bag and grabbed Tracey’s net, saying,193Please respect copyright.PENANAjC2KI7lNcl
“I’ll get that fairy too as soon as I hide this one. Peter and I will deliver three fairies to the laboratory!” Laughing, Cody reached into his pocket and pulled out his walkie talkie. Turning it on, he held it up to his lips and said, “Peter, Peter, I got him! I got Tracey! You were right! He did come!”
“I knew he would.” Peter said on the other line, “Well done, Dad!” He was back under another table talking to him. Makenna Delling was actually starting to become a little suspicious. Why was Peter constantly dropping his keys under a table? She decided to kneel down and investigate. She gasped when she saw Peter talking on a walkie talkie. Makenna eavesdropped on him, but Peter hadn’t noticed her yet. The rays of the setting sun had entered the gym’s windows, and they were slowly creeping toward her.193Please respect copyright.PENANAkj5MtSqA1U
On the other line of the walkie talkie, Cody told Peter, “And it gets better! A bird came along as well as Makenna’s brother! The brother is a fairy too!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAlAgrJ7woUN
“Caleb?” Makenna whispered, “Gina? Tracey?” There was a pinch of fear in her tummy. She had a bad feeling.193Please respect copyright.PENANAQ23kju0bTG
Peter, who had still not noticed her, said, “Seriously?! Well duh, Makenna is a fairy, so why wouldn’t he be too? We’ve got to catch him too!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAwnZiIbbod4
“I’m going to,” explained Mr. Nelson, “I just have to first hide Tracey. Then I’ll get the brother and bird. After I have all three of them, I’ll be able to lure Makenna into our trap.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAl98BmW8s4k
“Trap?” asked Makenna, “What’s going on here? Who’s that bozo Peter’s talking to on that walkie talkie?”193Please respect copyright.PENANADReDC1gNQn
“Makenna,” Raeven told her in her head, “you’ve got to break up with him right now so you can escape.”193Please respect copyright.PENANANnUJLRjPmB
“Yeah, okay, pal.” Makenna spoke back in her head, “In just a sec I will. I have to first figure out what on earth’s going on.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAXUfj0XQqww
“Where’s the brother now?” Peter asked his dad.193Please respect copyright.PENANANCHNH6n41c
“He’s in the parking lot,” elucidated Mr. Nelson, “I’m dragging Tracey into the building right now while we’re talking.”
Makenna gasped.193Please respect copyright.PENANAEYtM2UfRzh
“He didn’t!” she whispered, “The parking lot?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAYGM8qDQHH9
“I’ll call you back as soon as I have all three of them.” Cody explained to Peter, “We’ll then discuss how we’re going to get the ultimate prize…Makenna.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAtIVkP5GdET
“Sounds good, Dad,” said Peter, “Over.” He chuckled and turned off the walkie talkie, slipping it back into his pocket. Next, he picked up his car keys, “Here they are, Makenna. Whew, I’m quite clumsy tonight, aren’t I?” He crawled out from under the table and turned his body. At the sight of Makenna kneeling in front of him with her arms crossed and a suspicious look on her face, he gasped, “Makenna!” Makenna remained causal.193Please respect copyright.PENANAPBhzpw6AHs
She faked a smile and asked, “Who was that you were talking to on the walkie talkie, Pete? What’s with all this talk about Caleb, Gina, Tracey, and a trap?”
“Uh.” Pete stammered, “Well, we uh, uh, you know, uh.” Both he and Makenna stood up, and Pete continued to stammer. He was put on a tight spot. Makenna was suspicious. From a distance, Jessica and Jimmy were watching them, and Jimmy saw Pete reach into his bag. He glared and started to head toward him. Jessica stayed behind, and she looked very hopeful. Where Makenna and Peter were, Makenna decided to take the risk.193Please respect copyright.PENANAEh1kpJgDJz
She faced Peter and calmly but sternly told him, “You know, I don’t know what’s going on, Pete, but whatever the reason, we’re done.”193Please respect copyright.PENANA6ZBMUQdbSH
“Yeah, Makenna!” said Raeven through telepathy.193Please respect copyright.PENANAjtb6xQNneC
Peter scoffed and pointed at the young fairy asking, “So, you’re breaking up with me?”193Please respect copyright.PENANANvgNU550JS
Makenna nodded, “I am. There’s something up your sleeve, Pete, and I don’t like it. Sorry, but I don’t trust you anymore. After all you did to Tracey, bullying him the way you did, I can’t call you my boyfriend anymore. So goodbye.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAgr0WseGUyZ
“You told him, Makenna!” Raeven announced in her head, “Good on ya!” Makenna nodded and waved goodbye to Peter.193Please respect copyright.PENANAnnZi2EZoEE
She turned on her heel and prepared to walk away, but Peter called, “Wait!” behind her, and Makenna stopped.193Please respect copyright.PENANAc8KXdTB9K7
She turned and faced him, “Is there something you want to say, Pete?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAgdtH4MgQl4
Peter nodded, “There is.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAZI8BQlbROx
“Well get on with it.” Peter Nelson approached Miss Makenna Delling and stopped in front of her.
Jimmy Carter was getting closer to them.193Please respect copyright.PENANApszKCgqMDE
Where the ex-couple stood, Peter grabbed hold of the piece of cake in his bag and told Makenna, “You know, believe it or not, but I kind of had a feeling we would break up. As people say, most high school relationships don’t last. However, I do want to give you something. I want to let you know that I really did love you, Makenna.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAreDLYdfdjS
“What do you want to give me?” asked Makenna, “Carry on, Pete.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAuvM1XMM31o
“When I went to Freshfields the other day,” explained Peter Nelson, “I came upon a piece of cake in the bakery that I thought you’d like. I know how much you love cake, Makenna, so yeah.” He pulled out the wrapped piece of cake and held it out to her, “Here you go. I don’t want you to forget me, Makenna.”
Makenna Delling’s eyes landed on the wrapped cake.193Please respect copyright.PENANAmunqaCvbKg
“For me?” she asked, and she pointed at herself. Peter nodded. “Well, thank you,” spoke the Metamorphic Fairy. She reached out and accepted the piece of cake. “What type is it?” she asked Peter, “Is it my favorite type?”193Please respect copyright.PENANA10uWZwX4vD
“Why don’t you open it and see?” quested Peter. Makenna chuckled. She peered down on the piece of cake and slowly started to unwrap it. While she worked, Peter Nelson smiled his evil smile.193Please respect copyright.PENANAjORMAjuxHu
Makenna finished unwrapping the piece of cake, and she gasped when she saw it was chocolate cake. “Chocolate cake!” she announced, and she tossed the tinfoil into a nearby trash can. She got a bullseye. Makenna examined the cake and said, “Oh, I love chocolate cake. You did get my favorite type of cake, Pete.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAQstuqtRB4e
Peter bowed, “That’s how well I know you. Why don’t try it and make sure it tastes right?” Makenna licked her lips. She was a little hungry. She hadn’t eaten any dinner yet.193Please respect copyright.PENANAJEBLYSbgtL
Raeven poked his head out of her purse and peered into her face. “Wait, I don’t like this,” he told the Metamorphic Fairy.193Please respect copyright.PENANAf0hyOa7eWA
“Oh shush, Raeven.” Makenna said back through telepathy, “Its chocolate cake. It’s the most delicious cake in the entire world! Mmm.” Her mouth watered. Slowly, Makenna Delling started to bring the cake toward her mouth. Peter watched intrigued, and he was still smiling his evil smile. The closer the cake got to Makenna’s lips, the more villainous his smile grew. This time for sure, he knew he was going to succeed. Makenna Delling was as good as dead.
Peter celebrated in his head. However, he celebrated too soon.193Please respect copyright.PENANAoblH0M8SuM
Just before Makenna could take a bite from the poisonous cake, suddenly a, “STOP!!” was heard and a figure came between Makenna and Peter. It smacked the cake out of Makenna’s hands, and she gasped. The cake crashed into the floor.193Please respect copyright.PENANAr1jI0Q2Eui
It hit with so much force that it broke apart. “What the?!” both Peter and Makenna asked. Heads turned toward them and the figure who had smacked the cake out of Makenna’s hands. It was Jimmy Carter! Jimmy Carter was the one who had saved Makenna! He stood next to the shattered cake, and he was glaring at Peter Nelson. “Jimmy!” Makenna gasped. She glared, “What was the meaning of that?!”193Please respect copyright.PENANA1TidvSblGP
Jimmy pointed at Peter Nelson and yelled, “He’s a criminal, Makenna! A criminal! Somebody call the police!”193Please respect copyright.PENANA2vqFfuGopN
“Criminal?” asked confused Makenna Delling, “What do you mean, Jimmy? That was totally unnecessary!”
Before long, Dr. Medford, the school’s principal, arrived on the scene, – he looked very nice – and he asked,193Please respect copyright.PENANAvJhBtVCfhT
“What in the world is going on here?”193Please respect copyright.PENANA8hEC4QQQgz
Mr. Gheesling, who was also acting as a chaperone at the dance, also appeared next to Makenna, Jimmy, and Peter, and he said, “We heard yelling!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAfCtgMFQDhp
Jimmy Carter pointed at Peter Nelson and yelled, “There was an attempted murder here! Call the police!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAumgiuSA8Le
“An attempted murder?” asked Dr. Medford.193Please respect copyright.PENANAeikQA5iz4c
In his head, Peter was saying, “Huh, so much that strategy. Oh well, at least Dad has Tracey.” Mr. Gheesling grabbed his arm, and he, Makenna, Dr. Medford, and some students focused their attention on Jimmy.193Please respect copyright.PENANAdpIukXq4t2
He nodded and said, “Yes! It was an attempted murder! Check out this piece of cake!” He leaned down and scooped up a chunk of the broken cake. Jimmy showed it to the witnesses and continued, “He gave this to Makenna Delling here, but check out what’s inside it!” Makenna and Dr. Medford joined him and peered down on the cake.193Please respect copyright.PENANA6uh5IoK3y1
They gasped when they saw the nut pieces inside it. “Nuts!” Makenna yelled, and she glared at Peter Nelson, “You were trying to kill me!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAMG3fx2yd91
Smiling arrogantly, Peter nodded and said, “I was, Makenna,” in an evil voice, “It doesn’t matter now though. Your friend Tracey’s ours, and soon both you and your brother will be too.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAFlnAI7ohDt
“Tracey?” Makenna asked.193Please respect copyright.PENANAovasvoy9iU
“Tracey?” asked both Dr. Medford and Mr. Gheesling. They exchanged glances.
Jessica soon joined the scene, and she stood next to Jimmy Carter. Both she and he looked confused.193Please respect copyright.PENANADeJ3NYVJSo
Makenna yelled at Peter, “You did capture him! You monster! We’re going to call the police on you! I hope you go to jail! How dare you capture my friend! Well listen here, bub, I’m not going to let you win! I’m going to find my brother right now, and together, we’ll rescue Tracey! Think about your crime while you’re in jail!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAuf6tonKwRL
“Is Tracey here?” asked Mr. Gheesling.193Please respect copyright.PENANAU7aUOvuw71
Peter nodded, “He is, teacher scum,” he answered, “but there’s no way you’re going to find him. My dad will take him, Makenna’s brother, and her to a laboratory!” Mr. Gheesling gasped, as did Makenna and Dr. Medford.193Please respect copyright.PENANAkA3CRuDylO
In his head, he shouted out, “He knows!” He tightened his grip on Peter’s arm so he wouldn’t escape and turned his head toward Makenna. “Go, Makenna.” Mr. Gheesling calmly told her, “Go find your brother and Tracey. Dr. Medford and I will call the police.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAeBZ6q26JOJ
“Thank you, Mr. Gheesling.” Makenna said, “This means a lot to me. Tracey may be a fairy yes, but he doesn’t deserve to be treated the way he’s been treated lately. I’ve learned my lesson.”
Jessica and Jimmy, as well as other students, were very bewildered.193Please respect copyright.PENANA51y2GNyFov
“Fairy?” they muttered. Since Mr. Gheesling, Dr. Medford, and Peter were the only ones who knew Makenna and Tracey’s secret, they understood what Makenna was saying.193Please respect copyright.PENANAUqzIBIz744
The people who didn’t know, like Jessica and Jimmy, had no clue what was going on. “Go.” Mr. Gheesling again said to Makenna, “Don’t worry, Dr. Medford and I have everything under control here.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAMIJchrUZXN
“I trust you do,” said Makenna, “All right then. Thank you.” She curtsied and headed toward the gym’s/dance’s exit. The rays of the setting sun that had been creeping up on her reached her and scanned her. The second they did, Makenna suddenly yelled and closed her eyes. She fell to her knees.193Please respect copyright.PENANAz0Zylms8d4
Behind, Mr. Gheesling and Dr. Medford gasped and together yelled, “Makenna!” Makenna struggled to her feet. She suddenly felt very weak. However, even though she knew she was dying, she stayed strong. “I’m fine,” she feebly told the faculty members. All the color drained from her face. Makenna continued, “I’m going. Tracey and Caleb are more important than me. They’ve done nothing wrong. I on the other hand am nothing but a jerk.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAk0UxMb6sJN
“No, you’re not, Makenna.” Jessica called to her from behind, “Don’t say that. You’re the best friend a person could have.”193Please respect copyright.PENANA7jyTnR9h7h
“Thank you, Jessica,” said Makenna, “but the reason why I’m dying is because I haven’t given my act of true metamorphosis yet. It looks like I may never earn my third transformation now.”193Please respect copyright.PENANA6bqggHI5Cn
“Sorry,” spoke Jessica, “Transformation?” Makenna didn’t answer her. Instead, her eyes landed on the rays of the setting sun, and she mumbled, “Sunset. Don’t worry, I’ll be okay, my friends. I just have to stay strong.” With that last line, fourteen-year-old Makenna Delling pulled Raeven out of her purse and stepped out of the gym.193Please respect copyright.PENANARTq4wwIEoc
Behind, Jessica glanced at Jimmy and said, “I’m very confused.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAxbUogmunh8
“So am I,” spoke Jimmy. He turned toward Dr. Medford and Mr. Gheesling, “What’s going on? Aren’t one of you going to call the police?” Peter tried to break free from Mr. Gheesling, but he didn’t succeed. He was being held too tightly.
Makenna eventually made it through the hallways of her school and exited through the front door. She stumbled toward the parking lot, and soon in it, she searched for Caleb and weakly called,193Please respect copyright.PENANA7irz5cHF96
“Caleb!” Her hands were pressed up against her chest, and wind gushed through her hair. Makenna could feel herself growing sleepier and sleepier. She had to stay awake though! She had transformed into her Level 2 fairy self, but it looked awful. Everything with her transformation was pale, the blue highlights vanished from Makenna’s hair, and her wings shrunk and hung limply behind her. Makenna stayed strong though. She was a Metamorphic Fairy. For the second time, she called, “Caleb!” but she didn’t receive any response. Mr. Nelson had dragged Tracey into the school, so he was nowhere to be seen.
Raeven helped Makenna look for Caleb. Finally, they found him. The fairy and her avian friend found Caleb. Gina had woken up, but Caleb was still out. He hit the car’s hood pretty hard. Gina shook out her feathers and feebly squawked. Her eyes landed on Makenna and Raeven, and recognizing them, she gasped and called them over. Makenna and Raeven followed her call. They approached the car Gina and Caleb had crashed into, and at the sight of her unconscious brother, Makenna weakly gasped. Raeven leaped from her shoulder and landed next to Gina. He asked her if she was all right which she said she was although her wing was a little sore. Caleb was lying knocked out on his back. His head was tilted to the right, his right arm was sticking out, and his left hand was resting on his tummy. Makenna approached him and kneeled. She placed her hand on his neck and gently shook his head. After a bit, Caleb started to regain consciousness. He turned his head to the left – Makenna shook his chin – and woke up.
Caleb lifted his head off the ground and met her eyes, groggily asking,193Please respect copyright.PENANApxhNvlsxkP
“Makenna?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAWzRm9LMLzP
“Caleb.” Makenna feebly spoke. She gently sat him up, “Are you all right? What are you doing here? What happened?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAJhBe7PX4X8
“Tracey was desperate, Makenna.” Caleb weakly said, and he took her hand, “I knew I couldn’t stop him. We came to help you out, but he was captured by Peter’s dad.”193Please respect copyright.PENANA65JXrYK7Af
“Peter’s dad?” asked Makenna, “Was he the one who knocked you out?” She gasped, “Of course!” She remembered Peter’s dad explaining that he had seen a real fairy seven years ago snooping around the alligator pond. Tracey must’ve been the fairy he saw! Makenna added, “He was the one Peter was talking to on the walkie talkie. Oh, Caleb, I’m so sorry he knocked you out.”193Please respect copyright.PENANArx5qh8lkvQ
Caleb shook his head, “No, Makenna, you’re mistaken. He didn’t knock me out. I knocked myself out. I tried to hit him with a spell as an attempt to free Tracey, but it backfired.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAtS5FAdIM1l
“You?” questioned Makenna, “You shot a spell, Caleb?”193Please respect copyright.PENANA6R1oUEK3N4
Caleb nodded, “Yes. Makenna, I don’t think you know this, but your powers are being drained and handed off to me. I’m becoming a fairy instead of you. Tracey told me.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAnseISeh6n4
“You are?” Makenna asked, “I know I’m being drained of power, but I didn’t know that you were getting them instead.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAhGnQ06zulS
“I don’t want to be a fairy though.” Caleb said, and letting Makenna’s hand go, he held both his hands out to her, “I want to just be me. You’re the one who should be the fairy. I don’t know what to do though.”193Please respect copyright.PENANA5Ri1LFh3gn
“Well we first got to find Tracey.” Makenna explained, “He was right. He was right about everything. Peter Nelson did try to kill me.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAYzQ5F8ojd9
“Did you call the police?” questioned Caleb. He was relieved to see that Makenna wasn’t having an anaphylactic reaction, but he was scared for her. She looked awful. He knew she was running out of time.193Please respect copyright.PENANAOD4yxxKIF1
Makenna answered his question, “Mr. Gheesling said he and Dr. Medford would. The police should be coming. Right now, though, we’ve got to find Tracey. Did you see where Mr. Nelson took him?”193Please respect copyright.PENANAJPwkeDWV9H
Caleb shook his head, “No, but I’m guessing he’s somewhere in the school building.” He rubbed his sore neck.193Please respect copyright.PENANAbZRBcKyKan
“Then we’ll spit up.” Makenna told him, “You take the east wing, Caleb, and I’ll take the west. If you find him, tell me through telepathy.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAqVyh3FoTyu
Caleb nodded. “We can do this,” he comfortably told his sister, “I will, Makenna, and I’ll be careful.”193Please respect copyright.PENANACdv6Kddonk
“You better be!”193Please respect copyright.PENANAYetbxUhYnc
“I will. You need to be careful yourself too.”193Please respect copyright.PENANAMQaKjVU1Yi
“Which I will, Caleb. I promise.” Makenna feebly smiled, and both she and Caleb fell into a hug. Caleb closed his eyes and hugged his sister tightly. She patted his back and said, “Don’t worry, Caleb. Everything will be okay. I broke up with Peter. All that’s left now is rescuing Tracey and getting him to the hospital.” She and Caleb hugged for a little bit longer. Then, the siblings let each other go, and Makenna took Caleb by the arms. Since she was older, she was a little taller than him. Caleb smiled up at her. He and Makenna shared goodbyes one last time, and then, they parted ways. Raeven went with Makenna, and Gina went with Caleb. Makenna was too weak to fly, so she just walked.
