In less than five minutes, the island was back to normal. It was silent and beautiful all over again. It was as if nothing had happened. On the beach, Makenna was resting on her back with eyes closed and arms extended, and Tracey was resting on his front, shaking uncontrollably; he was so scared. Gina was standing next to his head and patting it with her wing.185Please respect copyright.PENANAJXtngLsPy4
Suddenly, Makenna shot to an upright position, and lifting her hand, she asked, “Is everyone alive?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAqnrmXulQuk
Tracey coughed. “Barely,” he feebly said. Gina nudged his head.185Please respect copyright.PENANA1WouY0SC3Q
“Whoo-wee.” Makenna said, and she squeezed water out of her long, brown hair, “That was some kind of fun. Are you okay, little necklace?” She reached for her necklace pendant, and she sighed when she felt that she was still wearing it. For a bit, she stared at her necklace and blue fingernails. Then, she jumped to her feet and turned to Tracey who was struggling to hands and knees, and his wings were hanging limply from his back. Makenna asked him, “Tracey, are you all right?” and she hurried to him, grabbing his arm. She helped Tracey to his feet, but the second he stood, he swayed, closed his eyes, and fell forward. Makenna caught him by the arms and said, “Tracey! Take it easy, dude! You need to rest!” Gina hurried to the young apprentice and rubbed up against his cheek. Together, she and Makenna helped Tracey back onto the sand and waited for the color to return to his face.
As they waited, Makenna sat on a rock and faced the meadow, and Gina stayed with her friend. As Makenna sat, tears streamed down her cheeks, and in a choked voice, she said,185Please respect copyright.PENANABl2PtKRHAX
“I was too weak. Thanks to me, the Octopus Man nearly had Tracey.” She glanced at her hands, “I can’t defeat him like this.” She frustratingly clenched her fist, and her fingernails turned purple. She leaped to her feet, rubbed her eyes, and narrowed her eyebrows, saying, “I have to find Caleb! I have to learn how to fly so I can earn my second transformation!” She remembered Caleb telling her that her second transformation was known as her Soon to Be a Crystal Metamorphic Fairy transformation. Now desperate, young Makenna peered into the gorgeous, blue sky. She could do this. She clenched her fists and said, “Come on, wings, we can do this!” She bent her knees and didn’t take her eyes off the sky. Makenna glared, jumped, and BOOM! Her wings flapped, and she shot into the sky! As she climbed, she held her right arm straight out and clenched her fist and teeth. However, she immediately lost control. She was thrown all over the place, and Makenna yelled.
Down below, on the beach, Gina saw her and squawked. She turned to Tracey whose color was almost back and hurried to his shoulder. With her beak, she grabbed his shirt sleeve and started to pull. Tracey struggled to a sitting position and reached for his head, rubbing it.185Please respect copyright.PENANAPKd46iUS6C
Then, opening his eyes, he dropped his hand and peered at Gina, asking, “Gina, what is it?” in a feeble voice. Gina let go of his sleeve and pointed her beak into the sky. Tracey looked with her, and at the sight of Makenna attempting to fly, he whispered, “She’s flying. Well, sort of.” Makenna was out of control, yes, but she was not giving up. She had to become a Crystal Metamorphic Fairy!185Please respect copyright.PENANACXFMJGXexc
She called to her wings, “Wings, go left!” but her wings pulled her to the right instead. Makenna yelled, and next, she went zooming down toward the beach. She yelled, “Help!” but her wings caught her just before she could hit the ground. Then they gently put her down on the sand, on her backside. “Oh!” frustrated Makenna Delling yelled, “I was so close too!”
“Well done, Makenna.” Tracey said from where he sat.185Please respect copyright.PENANA7upPf4tUax
Makenna heard him and asked, “Huh?” Her eyes landed on him, “Tracey!” and she jumped to her feet, “You’re all right!” Hurrying to him, she kneeled and started hammering him with questions, “What did you see?! Did he get you?! Did you see the Octopus Man?! Was he really half octopus?! How did you escape?!”185Please respect copyright.PENANA8Yx8j4rhKG
“Shush!” said the young ninja. His head was beginning to hurt, and he reached for it, “What are you talking about, Makenna? What ‘Octopus Man’?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAadThXV0lqh
“Oh,” Makenna gloomily said, “so I guess you didn’t see him?” She jumped, “No, nothing! There is no Octopus Man! We um,” She thought for a moment, “just escaped a really powerful storm in the Atlantic. It was so bad that there was even a whirlpool!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAgjERrx4nUe
“Whirlpool?” Tracey asked, “What whirlpool? What storm?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAvtDsy2quJ9
“Hold on.” Makenna said. She pointed at him, “You really don’t remember?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAgXtRj9ZT8X
“Is that a bad thing?” asked Tracey. Makenna hesitated.185Please respect copyright.PENANAEZhQUE7Xsn
Then she forced a smile and said, “No! No! That’s fine! What I meant to ask you was, um, can we carry on with our journey to find my brother?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAx7tHFimau7
“Oh.” Tracey said. He nodded, and Makenna took him by the arm, helping him stand. Tracey added with, “Right. We’re looking for ‘Where the water meets your wings,’ right?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAFU1PGf1bAM
Nervously, Makenna said, “Yes, yes we are. After we find Caleb, Tracey, Merlin wants us to return to his cave so he can give me the scoop on why I’m a fairy and we can return home. Caleb and I have to return home. We have school tomorrow.”
“Right.” Tracey said. He shook his head, “You’re a Metamorphic Fairy, Makenna. I want to congratulate you on that flight you just did.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAw0SYiVuEe6
Makenna scoffed. “That wasn’t flight,” she said, “That was Pretty Girl Falling Out of the Sky, Episode 20.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAcRr8As89lZ
“Well,” said Tracey, “you still did something, right?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAzebjaB2mDZ
Makenna shrugged. “I guess so,” she said. She peered back to her wings. Then, turning back to Tracey, she asked, “Well, are we ready?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAbYHEvRwi30
“Yeah.” Tracey said. He nodded, “I suppose.” His eyes suddenly left Makenna, and he peered out to the Atlantic Ocean, seeming to stare at it. He wasn’t even blinking. He looked somewhat like a zombie. Gina was nervous. There was obviously something going on with him.185Please respect copyright.PENANAeceIk647XH
Makenna soon waved her hand in front of Tracey’s face and said, “Whoo-hoo. Tracey.” She knocked on his forehead, “Are you in there? Uh, Tracey, it’s time for you to return to reality.”
Tracey snapped out of his doze and reached for his head again saying,185Please respect copyright.PENANACfaEMh1PAc
“I’m sorry, Makenna. I don’t know what’s going on.”185Please respect copyright.PENANACUPsb3OAhI
“You may have swallowed too much seawater,” she said, “As soon as we find my brother, Tracey, I’m going to escort you back to Merlin’s Cave so he can have a look at you. You may just be drained of power. Can you fly?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAFQWShGKewN
“Uh,” started Tracey. He peered back to his wings, “I think so.” Very slowly, he lifted his wings and flapped them a couple of times. Makenna did not let go of his arm. After a couple more wing flaps, Tracey started to lift into the sky, but it took a little time for him to balance himself out.185Please respect copyright.PENANAwB79DAzXpm
When finally, he did, Makenna let go of his arm and said, “All right. Come on, let’s find ‘Where the water meets your wings.’”185Please respect copyright.PENANAZlLA3AWydL
“‘Where the water meets your wings.” Tracey thoughtfully repeated after her, “I wonder if that means Merlindial Falls.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAugb188b4fO
Makenna gasped. “So, you know where to go?” she desperately asked.185Please respect copyright.PENANADYZat086cj
Tracey crossed his arms. “I do,” he calmly said. He shook his head, “but I’m not going to tell you.”185Please respect copyright.PENANA0Su6AJpg1F
“Huh?!” Makenna asked. She could feel the anger boiling inside of her again. She glared, placed her hands on her hips, and snapped, “Why not, Ninja Boy?!”185Please respect copyright.PENANA0EDV4SLi4u
“First of all because you have to be more polite.” Tracey seriously said. Gina, who was hovering next to him, nodded and blew Makenna another raspberry.185Please respect copyright.PENANAJ56cm4HJ7s
She lost her glare and lowered her hands, saying, “I’m sorry.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAs4Xo7i3R4I
“That’s better,” said Tracey, “Now, Makenna, if you really want to find your brother, then you must listen to your fairy instincts. They’ll take you to him.”185Please respect copyright.PENANABhrKDAaoH3
“My fairy instincts?” Makenna asked, “What do you mean ‘fairy instincts,’ Ninja Boy?”185Please respect copyright.PENANA75cpQOSyWs
“My name is Tracey,” he feebly said, “and I would appreciate it if you showed me a little more respect. I’m not the one being tested for true metamorphosis, Makenna – you are. I’m just guiding you, but really, this is your journey, not mine.”
Makenna opened her mouth to argue back, but then she backed out. She didn’t want to push him. She’ll settle this with him another day. Tracey had been too beat up already.185Please respect copyright.PENANAP0yqB8iwYe
Inhaling, she said, “Fine,” in an angry voice and turned toward the meadow, closing her eyes, “My fairy instincts.” As she was waiting for her instincts to kick in and tell her where to go, Tracey focused his attention back on the ocean and sighed. Gina hovered in front of his face and peered into his golden-brown eyes, which actually looked a little bit glassy. She was really worried. Suddenly, there was a blast of wind, and Makenna’s hair waved against it. Her eyes were still closed. “Wait a minute,” she said, and she turned toward the island’s jungle, “I’m getting something. I’m getting something! It’s getting warmer.” She gasped and opened her eyes. Hurrying toward the jungle, she stopped, turned to Tracey, and pointed at it, saying, “This way! We go this way!” Tracey turned his head and glanced at her.185Please respect copyright.PENANACFwyNx9Igj
He nodded and said, “Good job, Makenna.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAfjL5ZkiKga
Makenna chuckled and turned on her heel, saying, “Follow me.” With that, she took off at a run, and Tracey followed her. Gina nervously chased after her friend.
The two fairies soon entered the jungle, and they hurried through it. Well, Makenna was hurrying. Tracey took his time. As Makenna ran, she said, “Don’t worry, Caleb, we’re coming!” Suddenly, she gasped. “His aura!” she added with, “I can feel his aura! We must be getting close!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAwbbbxCUsXZ
“Makenna!” Tracey weakly called to her. He held out his hand, “Please slow down!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAFUaZ2ethTC
“I can’t, Tracey!” said Makenna, “My brother is counting on me to rescue him! How about you speed up? You’re the ninja!”185Please respect copyright.PENANA4cbyen5vWe
“Makenna,” said Tracey. He sunk closer to the ground, and his face turned pale again. He closed his eyes.185Please respect copyright.PENANARv59GBcOD8
“Stop!” Makenna suddenly shouted. She stopped and held up her hand as a signal for Tracey to stop.185Please respect copyright.PENANAi0f7dPdxFK
He accidentally crashed into Makenna’s back and knocked her to the ground. “Oh!” said the young ninja. He reached for his lips, “I’m so sorry, Makenna! My clumsiness got in the way again!”185Please respect copyright.PENANATveApcaGJ6
“Oh, Tracey.” Makenna said. She stood up and brushed herself down, “Don’t worry, you’re not clumsy. You’re just a little tired.” Tracey lowered his head and grabbed ahold of his arm. He strangely looked very depressed. Makenna tried to retain a positive attitude, and clearing her throat, she pointed forward and said, “Check it out!”185Please respect copyright.PENANADYkByycNWu
Tracey lifted his head and nodded at what he saw in front of them. “Yep,” he said, “That’s Merlindial Falls.” Gina hovered next to his face and peered forward with him.
In front of the two fairies, feeding into a river pool and hidden between some trees, was a beautiful, seventy-foot-tall, roaring waterfall! Birds soared near the top of it, and a couple of them stopped and peered down at the two fairies.185Please respect copyright.PENANAXwJUdjZ2Ro
At the sight of the waterfall, Makenna said, “Whoa! Look at that thing! It’s huge!”185Please respect copyright.PENANA8weTc90dDn
“Yeah.” Tracey said. He nodded, “This is another place I like to visit.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAVYn6j5jseP
“Amazing,” said Makenna, openmouthed, “but wait,” She took a step forward, closer to the waterfall, “what did Merlin mean by, ‘Where the water meets your wings.’?” Tracey closed his eyes, crossed his arms, and huffed. He knew the answer, but there was no way he was going to give it away! Makenna had to figure it out herself. However, after a moment of thinking, he decided that perhaps he could maybe give her a clue. After all, the riddle was a little tricky to figure out. Tracey sighed.185Please respect copyright.PENANA0dhvv0z4tl
Then he cleared his throat and said, “Makenna, think about it. ‘Where the water meets your wings.’” Makenna turned her head and peered over her shoulder at him. Tracey lifted his hand, and he pointed at the pool the waterfall fed into. “Check out that pool,” he said. Makenna did. “Now,” said Tracey. He next pointed to a line of rocks, just left of the waterfall, that were piled on top of one another, “check out that line of rocks over there.” Makenna did. “Doesn’t it look like they’re taking the form of a path?” Tracey asked her.185Please respect copyright.PENANAHg25aU4dYM
“Hmm,” said Makenna thoughtfully. She tapped her chin, “This is a roughie toughie. Hmm, wait a minute!” She examined the rocks more carefully. “They do, Tracey!” she said, “They do!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAtwm44951Mo
“Correct.” Tracey said, “Now what can that tell you about ‘Where the water meets your wings.’?” Makenna thought for a little while longer.185Please respect copyright.PENANA6AUyvqkZVp
Then she gasped and said, “The waterfall! Of course! The waterfall is the answer!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAf4dwWVLjyM
“Are you sure about that?” asked Tracey, “Are you sure there’s nothing more to the riddle? To where the ‘Water meets your wings.’?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAD88AgBacPu
“I’m sure.” Makenna said, “This has to be the place. Don’t worry, Caleb, I’m coming!” With that, she hopped over a ledge and jogged down a hill, toward the line of rocks. While watching her, Tracey turned to Gina and winked. Gina winked back. Then, she backed up, and Tracey hurried after Makenna. Gina soared into a tree and landed on a branch, folding her wings. She patiently watched the two fairies.
Tracey soon caught up with Makenna.185Please respect copyright.PENANAjivdswtCNX
She was leaping over the pile of rocks and heading toward the waterfall’s rock face. “Caleb,” she said, “I know he’s here.” She stopped and turned to Tracey, pointing at the waterfall, “He’s behind that waterfall isn’t he, Tracey?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAsjFrq39cNI
Tracey closed his eyes and shrugged his shoulders, saying, “What do you think, Makenna? Remember, this is your journey. Not mine.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAAmZlDguASI
“Well,” Makenna said, “I’m not sure, but something’s telling me that behind the waterfall is where we need to go.”185Please respect copyright.PENANALajGLcyGKl
“It’s your fairy instincts.” Tracey told her, “You’re learning how to use them, Makenna. Trust them.” Makenna soon reached the waterfall’s rock face, and she peered up, gulping. That was a pretty steep rock face. It reminded her of the rock face in Ice Age. She gulped again. Then she narrowed her eyebrows and cracked her fingers. Tracey was flying up the rock face, and stopping, he peered down to her and asked, “Well, are you coming or not?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAFiT6F1EFnK
“Just give me a minute!” Makenna called to him, “Don’t rush me!” She gulped again. “I’m gonna die,” she whispered.185Please respect copyright.PENANAbgFLaXQMLR
“No, you’re not!” Tracey called down to her. He somehow had heard her whisper that. He added, “You have three choices, Makenna. Are you going to fly, climb, or chicken out?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAuGYjR2Nued
Makenna glared. “Don’t you dare call me a chicken!” she snapped at him.185Please respect copyright.PENANAEBPiaATJYY
“Well excuse me,” Tracey said, “but I don’t have all day.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAoetWTUwERP
“Shut your mouth, Ninja Boy!” Makenna yelled, “And keep it shut!” Tracey landed on a ledge and sat, dangling his legs.185Please respect copyright.PENANAmvxyerQ6IP
He crossed his arms and shook his head, saying, “I’ll never understand girls.”
Makenna peered up the rock face some more, and she said, “Oh, this is crazy. Crazy, crazy, crazy.” She jumped and grabbed ahold of the rock face. Then, she started to climb. From where he sat, Tracey propped up his head and watched her. Makenna climbed slowly and carefully. She grunted as she grabbed ahold of a small ledge. Every once in a while, she peered down, and at the sight of the drop, she whimpered and shook with fear. She was climbing just left of Merlindial Falls, and its water sprayed on her. Thirty feet up, Makenna stopped and hugged the rock face as hard as she could. She was sweating, and her sweat dripped onto lower rocks. She closed her eyes.185Please respect copyright.PENANAMv9QJJzfJv
On his ledge, Tracey stood and crossed his arms, asking, “Are you having fun, Makenna?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAtdBhPqxoSo
Makenna opened her eyes and peered up to him. “Don’t distract me!” she snapped, “I’m almost there!”185Please respect copyright.PENANA5s1NGmFjmD
“You know,” said Tracey, “you have something on your back called wings. Why don’t you use them?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAwkD37DznI5
“Because I can’t!” Makenna whimpered, “I can’t fly like you!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAcLxBht3Qi0
“You’re wrong,” said Tracey, “You can fly. You just don’t believe that you can.”185Please respect copyright.PENANA4ynCt2qaR0
“Aw shut up!” Makenna yelled. She closed her eyes again, and her sweaty hands started to slip. “This is a lot of fun,” she added with, “I’ve always loved rock climbing on steep, steep rock faces with no equipment. It’s one of my favorite hobbies!” Her hands though slipped, and she screamed as she let go and started to fall back down toward the pile of rocks!185Please respect copyright.PENANAQtrX7SSqhE
From his ledge, Tracey gasped, and he shouted, “Makenna!” Quickly, he lifted into the sky and held his arms out to his sides, starting to zip down after her.
Makenna continued to fall, and she yelled at her wings,185Please respect copyright.PENANAkzgoLbr8bB
“Wings, please! Do something!” Her wings did nothing. Makenna screamed some more. However, just before she could hit the rocks below, Tracey appeared from under her, and he caught her in his arms. “AHHH!!” terrified Makenna Delling screamed. She wrapped her arms around Tracey’s neck, and he focused on the waterfall, flying toward it.185Please respect copyright.PENANAbULhMWQzop
He said, “Hold on tight!” and Makenna hugged his neck even harder. Tracey’s eyes glowed up green, and he flew straight toward the roaring waterfall.185Please respect copyright.PENANAt869uPuvPP
“What are you doing?!” Makenna shouted at him, “Are you crazy?!” She closed her eyes and buried her face in his chest. Suddenly though, the waterfall split in two and created a path! Behind it, a ledge and cave were revealed! Tracey flew Makenna through the waterfall and landed in the cave, setting her down. Then, through ninja speed, he appeared at the edge of the ledge, and behind, Makenna shouted, “Tracey, no!” She held her hand out to him.185Please respect copyright.PENANAz8ar30OUZe
From the edge of the ledge, Tracey lifted his hands and announced, “Tracey! Pupil of Merlin the Great!” He held his hands out to the waterfall, and green and purple sparkles escaped from them. They circled the waterfall from top to bottom, and Tracey acted out a back flip, landing on his feet. Then he threw magical green and purple throwing stars into the sky, and all of them, along with the sparkles, circled the waterfall like boomerangs. Before Makenna knew it, the flow of the waterfall stopped! It stopped flowing! She gasped and watched as a large ball of green and purple light hovered in front of Tracey. He extended his arms, and the ball vanished. Now, he and Makenna were hanging out on the ledge and in the cave behind where the waterfall used to be.
Tracey smiled feebly at his work, but then, he closed his eyes and fell forward.185Please respect copyright.PENANAvU4xUZOq8O
“Tracey!” Makenna yelled. She jumped to her feet and hurried to him, catching him right before he could fall over the ledge. She asked, “Are you all right?!” and standing back up, Tracey replied,185Please respect copyright.PENANA4uTAbbPlXU
“Yeah,” in a feeble voice.185Please respect copyright.PENANA1VYFXMNcXv
“That was amazing!” Makenna told him, and she released his shoulders, “How did you do that?!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAD4fqEZCTLn
“That’s called a Sojourning Spell,” replied the young ninja, “It allows for anything to stop for a temporary amount of time. One day, you too will be able to use it.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAZ7fJQ6utOG
“Whoa.” Makenna said. She peered over the ledge to the beautiful view of the jungle and ocean. Then, turning to Tracey, she said, “Thank you, Tracey. Thank you for saving me.”185Please respect copyright.PENANA9Aib4g9npJ
“Aw don’t mention it.” Tracey said. He shrugged, “I like to help others. Anyways,” He turned to the cave and extended his arms, “Welcome to the back of Merlindial Falls. While you look around, I think I’m going to take a little rest.”185Please respect copyright.PENANArpRICyM7D4
“Yeah.” Makenna said with a nod, “You do that, Tracey. You need the rest.” Tracey thanked her. Then he headed on over toward the cave’s wall, and pressing his back up against it, he closed his eyes and sunk to the ground. He buried his face in his arms. From where she stood, Makenna watched him and said, “Oh, Tracey.” Soon, she explored the cavern, and as she explored, she cupped her hands around her mouth and called, “Caleb! Caleb! Where are you?!” Her voice echoed. Makenna didn’t receive any response. “Caleb!” she called again. Once again, nothing responded. Makenna could feel tears burning in her eyes. Approaching Tracey, she said, “I don’t understand, Tracey,” in a choked voice, “We’re at ‘Where the water meets your wings,’ but where is Caleb? Merlin said that this would be the only place where we’d find him.” Tracey unburied his head and turned it toward a small pool at the other end of the cave in which a smaller waterfall poured down on it from up above. Makenna peered in the direction of the pool, and she asked, “Hm? Hold on.” She left Tracey and slowly headed toward the pool. On her way there, she stopped every once in a while to place her ear on the cave’s back wall and knock on it. Tracey watched her from where he sat. Makenna soon stopped at the pool, and she carefully studied the smaller waterfall. She turned her head, and her eyes landed on the back wall. Then, she peered back at the pool and waterfall.
From where he sat, Tracey stood up and approached her.185Please respect copyright.PENANApgLazSMmAy
He stepped into the pool and turned to Makenna, asking, “What is it, Makenna?” Her eyes were fixed upon the small waterfall.185Please respect copyright.PENANAQ9eyzpAAhT
She said, “Hm,” and peered up to her tiny wings, “‘Where the water meets your wings.’” She gasped, “I get it now!” Quickly, she stepped into the pool, joining Tracey, and headed toward the waterfall. Soon, the two fairies were standing on either side of it, and lifting her hands, Makenna cupped them and stuck them under the waterfall. The water poured down on them, and she smiled when she felt that the water was actually really warm. Removing her hands, she smiled and turned to Tracey. He nodded. She nodded back. Makenna said, “I’ve got a good feeling about this, Tracey. Let’s hook hands.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAY1Lzxov93H
“Right,” he said. Together, he and Makenna hooked hands and turned their backs to the waterfall, wrapping their arms and bodies around it.185Please respect copyright.PENANAXxk4ogoQrj
They closed their eyes, and Makenna asked, “Are you ready, Tracey?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAtfgydriJW0
“I am,” he said. He and Makenna took a step back, and together, they stuck their wings under the waterfall. The water poured down on the wings, and suddenly, Makenna heard rumbling coming from the cave’s back wall!185Please respect copyright.PENANAYDT0MSJMbT
Opening her eyes, she asked, “Huh?” and glanced at it. She grinned. The cave’s back wall split in two, and the two pieces sliding away from each other revealed a secret tunnel! Makenna and Tracey’s wings, with the touch of the water, together glowed up, and Makenna said, “Tracey, look! It’s working! It’s working! Yes!” She lowered her head, “For once, I am doing things right!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAylIvwWyy8M
“Amazing, Makenna!” Tracey said, “Congratulations! You just performed your first real spell, and even more, it was a Converging Spell!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAn0EhANI1jY
“A Converging Spell?” Makenna asked him.185Please respect copyright.PENANA1jDnSfvRxK
“Yeah,” said Tracey, “A Converging Spell is a spell in which two or more fairies combine their magic to help attack an opponent or open up secret passageways. I’m amazed that you actually did it. Converging Spells, for Metamorphic Fairies, usually aren’t able to be performed unless the fairy is a Crystal Metamorphic Fairy.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAbcKjKLJrZo
“I knew I could do it.” Makenna said, “I knew I could perform my first real spell!”
She and Tracey unhooked their hands and stepped out of the pool. They focused their attention on the splitting walls, and soon, the walls stopped moving, and the secret tunnel was revealed!185Please respect copyright.PENANAVbc8Yrpw4G
Makenna grinned, and tears re-appeared in her eyes. “Caleb,” she whispered. She didn’t waste any time. She hurried into the tunnel, and Tracey followed her from behind. However, when he entered the cave, he suddenly looked very tired, and he had to place his palm on the wall. He took deep breaths, and all the color drained from his face again. Makenna was heading toward the center of the small tunnel, and cupping her hands around her mouth, she again called, “Caleb! Caleb!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAy64NJ7PQ6I
“Makenna?” asked a sudden, familiar voice, “Is that you?”185Please respect copyright.PENANA8nxv4BWMTb
Makenna gasped. “Caleb!” she shouted. She turned her head and grinned. There he was! There was Caleb! He was sitting on a small, rocky loft with a lantern next to him, and he was writing in a journal. Behind him was a sleeping bag, and a plate of food was to the right of him. Makenna again shouted, “Caleb!” and she hurried toward the loft.185Please respect copyright.PENANA6fzToy2oQh
“Oh, Makenna!” he said. Tears also appeared in his eyes. Quickly, he put down his journal and jumped from the loft, landing on his feet. Once landed, he hurried toward Makenna and said, “Big Sister!” The two siblings soon reached each other, and immediately, Makenna picked up her brother and hugged him as tight as she could. “Caleb!” she said. Tears ran down her cheeks, “You’re all right! You’re all right! I was so worried about you!” She twirled him in a circle.185Please respect copyright.PENANAlSeJfgi6b3
“Makenna,” he said, “you don’t have to do what Mom does!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAc1ZEF6VrTv
“Oh, Caleb!” Makenna said, and she twirled in a circle again. As she twirled, her tiny wings sparkled with a sudden blast of blue fairy dust. From where he was resting, Tracey was watching the reunion with a small smile.
Makenna soon put Caleb down, and kneeling to him, she took his shoulders and asked, “Are you hurt? How long have you been in here?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAHbIA9F5mDh
“Makenna,” said Caleb blushing, “I’m fine. You don’t need to treat me like a six-year-old.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAwYzbq71LMQ
“Oh, Caleb.” Makenna said.185Please respect copyright.PENANABsfCri6WCZ
She hugged him again, and closing his eyes, Caleb said, “Big Sister, I missed you.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAAD1gRLXTMk
Tracey soon approached the two, and crossing his arms, he asked, “Well, are you happy, Makenna?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAKX9bQmP7Iq
Makenna nodded. “I am, Tracey!” she said, “This has made my day! I’m just glad my brother’s all right!” Tracey next placed his hands on his hips, and he winked at Caleb who winked back.185Please respect copyright.PENANA4bl1oRWaJq
After he and Makenna hugged, he approached the ninja and peered up at him, saying, “Thank you, Tracey, for getting my sister here safely.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAPiEN1YAJ1Z
“No problem, sport.” Tracey told him, and he ruffled his hair. Makenna, who was still smiling, turned to them.
Caleb held his fist up to Tracey, and Tracey mimicked him. Together, the two boys did a fist pound and brought back their hands, saying,185Please respect copyright.PENANAt1hkvOQXDa
“Whoosh!” Caleb chuckled.185Please respect copyright.PENANAavSp2zHjU4
Then, turning to Makenna, he said, “Wow, Makenna!” and his eyes sparkled, “You’re a fairy! A full-fledged fairy!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAk89L6zk48i
Makenna nodded. “Yes, I am, Caleb,” she said, “I’m sorry I didn’t believe you before.”185Please respect copyright.PENANA3QcpXiJ82y
“Aw don’t worry,” said Caleb, “It’s not every day that a fourteen-year-old girl pops wings. Speaking of wings.” He examined Makenna’s wings, “Can you fly yet?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAVeOhxGFtJa
Tracey answered him. “Not yet,” he said, “But we’re working on it. Aren’t we, Makenna?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAxWLx0S7G63
“Yeah.” Makenna said with a nod, “Get this, Caleb, he forced me to drop off the ledge at the end of his secret tunnel in his room.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAjuELHH7xP6
“Really?” Caleb asked, “Awesome!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAH4FnUlybCX
“Ah,” Tracey said, “it was more she was frightened by a horde of bats, and she jumped off the cliff to get away from them.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAGoYczp7S3z
Makenna blushed and narrowed her eyebrows. “You stay out of this, Tracey,” she said, “But anyway, Caleb.” She turned to Caleb again, “On the beach, I managed to fly a little bit although I looked more like a kite flying out of control. Hm.” She clenched her fist and stared at it, “I was so close too. Tracey!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAUxtcAuN8Cu
She peered at Tracey who asked, “Yes, Makenna?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAcSIWOnKcbN
Makenna stood up, and bringing down her foot, she held her fist out to him and added with, “I’m ready to try flying again!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAGonarPZdnO
“Whoa, really?” Caleb asked her, “After what Tracey did to you?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAQrOoc4cPum
“I may not be able to do it,” Makenna said, “but I have to try. I have to attempt to become a Level 2 and Level 3 fairy. So,” She focused in on Tracey’s pale face, “Please, Tracey?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAq52SawLYyr
“Very well.” Tracey said, “We’ll give it another go.” Turning on his heel, he marched away from Caleb and Makenna, losing balance, but he was able to catch himself.
As Makenna and Caleb followed him, Caleb asked Makenna,185Please respect copyright.PENANAbjyG257wJ1
“Are you sure about this, Makenna?”185Please respect copyright.PENANAvzM8FrWVTT
“I am.” Makenna said. She nodded, “I can’t be a chicken forever.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAXL2yaAVt90
“Well, I supposed.” Caleb said shrugging, “And don’t worry, if you fall, Tracey will catch you.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAEH94YS4IeX
“Yeah,” said Makenna, “but I’m sure he’s getting tired of saving me all the time. I’m a useless fairy.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAsx5LCufMbo
“Makenna!” Caleb gasped. He and Makenna stopped, and Caleb added, “Don’t say things like that! You’re not a useless fairy. You just need a little practice, that’s all. In addition, you need to believe in yourself. Do you know why Tracey’s been pressuring you to fly lately?” Makenna hesitated and shut her mouth. Caleb added, “It’s because he believes that you can do it. He knows you can spread your wings and fly. He does not doubt you. Trust me, Makenna. Tracey is a very trustworthy fairy. He’s very nice. He’s not trying to get rid of you. He’s just helping you understand how blessed you are to be a fairy.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAYS5Fou6py3
“And how do you know him so well?” Makenna asked him.
Caleb closed his eyes and said,185Please respect copyright.PENANAwPrFBo7vqR
“It’s because I met him a very long time ago.”185Please respect copyright.PENANALbzY8O2CDb
“Do what?!” Makenna asked, shocked, “How could you have met him?!”185Please respect copyright.PENANAHURtRxGkiw
“Well,” Caleb explained, “when we were younger, do you remember that time when you fell off the observation deck at the crab dock and you thought I saved you?” Makenna thought back. She remembered that day.185Please respect copyright.PENANARxPELFgQ1q
Nodding, she said, “Yes.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAgwCSALCIJL
“Well,” continued Caleb, “the truth is, I wasn’t the one who saved you. It was Tracey. He appeared from out of nowhere, posing as only a green blur, and he caught you. He flew you over to the bridge, and then, that necklace you wear dropped you gently to the ground.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAJGf1i0Hgg6
Makenna reached for her necklace. “Oh,” she said, “and I didn’t believe you when you mentioned that the ninja-like fairy rescued me.”185Please respect copyright.PENANA8MZWiAQnbD
“That is correct.” Caleb said with a nod.185Please respect copyright.PENANAuxS0YKvSvA
“Oh, Caleb,” said Makenna, “I’m so sorry.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAyUmqxwiyp8
“It’s okay.” Caleb said, “Another thing is, don’t think of this kidnapping and stashing me away behind Merlindial Falls was a bad thing. I agreed to do it. Yesterday, when you left for North Beach, I met Tracey in person, and he very kindly asked me to help him have the Metamorphic Fairy, you, come to Merlin’s Island. Kidnapping me was the only thing he could do.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAXxRBJh3jHc
“I understand,” said Makenna with a nod, “And here I am, at Merlin’s Island. Hey.” She took Caleb’s shoulder, “You’re not half bad, Caleb.” Caleb blushed. He and Makenna hugged.
As they were hugging, Tracey turned to them and asked, “Well, are you coming or not? Chop, chop.”185Please respect copyright.PENANAME7hS0F6pj
“Huh?” asked Makenna and Caleb. They let go and glanced at one another, chuckling.185Please respect copyright.PENANAZmnKEoJ9AB
Then, Makenna lifted her hand and waved it, saying, “Don’t worry, Tracey, we’re on our way!” She and Caleb approached Tracey, and together, all three kids got in a line and turned on their serious faces. They marched toward the cave’s ledge. Makenna was in the middle of the line. Tracey was to the left of her, and Caleb was to the right. Something epic was about to go down.
