Makenna waited for Peter Nelson at the Gator Pond. She bent her knees, pulled them up close, and stared at her reflection. She thought she saw something in it. She thought she saw a faint, blue glow.170Please respect copyright.PENANAxZCJQ5BvJV
Makenna leaned toward it and her reflection and asked, “What is that?”170Please respect copyright.PENANA2WHVBP34a8
“What’s what?” asked the voice of Raeven. He poked his head out of Makenna’s purse.170Please respect copyright.PENANAGmhuYOZFRD
“That,” she answered. She pointed at the glow in the water.170Please respect copyright.PENANAabMRDAi6NE
Raeven too looked at it, and he said, “Ooh, what a strange little firefly. I’ve never seen something like that before.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAYRZhGMi3aS
“Same here.” Makenna said, “Hm.” She pulled hair behind her right, pointy ear, “I’m curious. I wonder what it is.” She decided to investigate the glow. Very slowly, she lifted her hand and reached for it. Raeven watched intrigued.
Makenna’s hand slipped into the warm water, and she moved it toward the glow which had now turned into a spinning ball of blue magic. Makenna lifted her other hand and also slipped it into the water. She stopped her hands momentarily from picking it up. Then, taking a deep breath, Makenna picked up the ball of light. The second she did, she was outlined by blue magic. The image of Jenkins Point and the Gator Pond faded and was replaced by an image of the ocean instead. Makenna gasped and searched her surroundings. She was actually experiencing her very first, own premonition. She wasn’t moving at all. She was still at the Gator Pond. Only the premonition/vision moved.
Makenna was hovering in an environment very similar to the one Tracey dreamed about. It was dark. All around her, the young Metamorphic Fairy heard splashing. In front of her, from the ocean, leaped out watery, mermaid-like figures. It appeared as if they were running away from someone, but who? This was all very confusing to Miss Delling. She had never witnessed a premonition before. She watched the mermaids running away. Suddenly, something flew right through her and went toward them! Makenna gasped. It was the Octopus Man! The Octopus Man was the one who had flown through her! He pointed his massive trident at the ocean and mermaids, and from the points of it escaped yellow strings of magic. They flew into the ocean, and right when they came in contact with the water, it bubbled and turned yellow. Poison. The Octopus Man was poisoning the ocean. Makenna frightfully watched the action and asked, “What is this?!” in a loud voice, “Raeven! Raeven get me out of here!” She saw that the mermaids had stopped running away, and all of them were gripping their throats. It looked like they were choking. Makenna had no idea what was going on.
From out of nowhere, there was a blast of light next to her, and a ball of blue light appeared next to her! It flew toward the Octopus Man. When it reached him, the ball’s light expanded and took on the form of a fairy-like figure! Makenna watched as she held out her hands and attacked the Octopus Man.170Please respect copyright.PENANA3TE6gimZ6H
Very faintly, she could see fins on the backs of the fairy’s legs. “What is this?!” Makenna asked again. A beam of light flew by her head, and her eyes widened with fear. “Who are you?!” she yelled at the fairy-like figure.
This was where the premonition really got interesting. There was suddenly another splash, a massive one, and the same humanoid, Kraken, alien-like creature that Tracey saw in his dream appeared in front of Makenna Delling!170Please respect copyright.PENANAMifuPdxt9d
She screamed at the sight of it. “What is that thing?!” she shouted. Behind her, the blue, fairy-like figure attacked the Octopus Man without any hesitation. In front of Makenna, the Kraken, alien-like creature roared, and it flew right toward her! She screamed again, and back in reality, she fell backwards, and her head almost hit the Gator Pond’s bench.
The premonition faded. Sights and smells of Seabrook Island returned. However, the premonition had left Makenna traumatized. She thought she heard hissing laughter all around her. Makenna turned her head and tried to find the source of the laughter. She turned her head, and her eyes widened.170Please respect copyright.PENANAILpfuXH8oC
Behind her, standing behind the bench and smiling at her, was Peter Nelson! “Peter Nelson!” Makenna gasped.170Please respect copyright.PENANA6FogzLEzHF
“Hey, Makenna,” said he. He waved, “Are you ready?”170Please respect copyright.PENANABrfa317lBV
Makenna, who was breathing heavily, quickly asked him, “What was that thing?!” She was still pretty shaken up.170Please respect copyright.PENANAqYAqn5m58P
“What was what?” Peter questioned her.170Please respect copyright.PENANA1MsUIAk84Q
“Nothing. Ye-Yeah, I-I’m ready to go, Pe-Pete.” Makenna gulped. She could not get the premonition out of her head. She shakily stood up and picked up her purse. Raeven had ducked inside it again, and for once, he was quiet.170Please respect copyright.PENANADWC2sWkDJE
Peter Nelson offered Makenna his hand, and she took it. “Why do you look so freaked out?” he asked the fairy.170Please respect copyright.PENANANtnXxFy5Cl
“No-Nothing. I’m just super excited about this dance.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAZexXPeCV2s
“Good. Well then, we should get there as soon as we can. Um,” Peter searched the area, “where on earth is your little friend? I swear, he totally ruined the pep rally today! Well, where is he?”170Please respect copyright.PENANADntZug9UwF
Makenna gulped. “He-He’s staying behind,” she answered, “He decided to not come.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAuzOWoLXScy
Peter Nelson smirked, “Perfect,” he sneered. Makenna gulped. Yep, Peter was definitely up to something. However, she decided to not break up with him yet only because she had to go to the dance and because duh, he was Peter Nelson. He was the hottest guy in her entire school, although Makenna had to admit that Tracey was pretty good looking too. Besides, this would be her last chance to earn her third transformation. If she didn’t earn it tonight, then she would be a dead fairy by the next day. Peter dragged Makenna Delling into his car, and the entire time he did, she was shaking and staring at the ground. She definitely was nervous.
Peter Nelson did nothing to Makenna on the way to the dance. The fun really wasn’t supposed to begin until they were at the scene of it. The entire journey to the dance was quiet. At one point, Peter was forced to stop because an ambulance with flashing lights had to get through.170Please respect copyright.PENANAkfUQys6yY6
He watched it, and in his head, he told himself, That’s going to be Makenna’s ambulance in less than three hours that’s never going to reach the hospital. He carried on with driving. While he drove with his eyes glued to the road, Makenna sighed and texted Jessica. Then, she lowered her phone and blew on the passenger’s window. When she made sure Peter wasn’t looking, she lifted her index finger and wrote out Tracey’s name on the window. Under his name, she added Please help me. After Makenna wrote her message, she stared outside, and images of Tracey flashed in her brain. In her purse, Raeven was cramped. He was in a pretzel, and he was resting on his head. He groaned and closed his eyes. Makenna soon asked him through telepathy, “Comfy, Raeven?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAgBKtse9N7t
“Uh,” Raeven said back, “not really.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAvBGoAgqXyT
“Hang on, we’re almost there.” Makenna told him.
Peter finally made it to Makenna’s school. He pulled into the parking lot and parked his car. He then got out and came over to Makenna’s side. Peter opened the door for her and took her hand, dragging her out of his car. Makenna’s feet hit the parking lot’s concrete, and she gulped, searching the area. Other teenagers, dressed up, passed her and Peter, and they entered the school from the front door. Some had dates. Others just came with their friends. The dance was being held in the gym. Makenna headed toward the front door, but she stopped and stared at it.170Please respect copyright.PENANAxPdKLKEYS4
Raeven soon poked his head out of her purse again, and his eyes landed on the school building. “Ooh,” he whispered, “Fancy.” Hearing him, Makenna tilted down her head, and she whispered, “Raeven! Get back in there!” She quickly pushed him back inside and closed her purse. Then she stared at her school again. She was shaking from head to toe with fear. She was so scared; she could even feel her knees knocking. She was not only scared about the dance; she was also scared about the premonition she had.
Makenna’s teeth chattered. She wrapped her arms around her body and thought about making a run for it, but then she remembered that she had to be here and that Raeven was with her. He would protect her, hopefully. However, he was only a bat. Through the crowds of teenagers, Makenna searched for Jessica. Perhaps she could just hang out with her instead of Peter Nelson? Behind her, Pete was leaning up against the hood of his car, and he held a walkie talkie to his lips. “Check, check,” he whispered, and he made sure Makenna wasn’t looking, “Commence operation Catch the Fairies, Dad. Makenna and I are here. All we’re missing now is Tracey.” His dad, Cody Nelson, had actually come to the dance as well. This was all part of their plan to catch Makenna and Tracey. He had parked his own car behind the school building and out of sight, and he had been patiently waiting for Peter’s message about him finally making it to the dance. He was dressed in all black. He wore black sunglasses, and he also had his own walkie talkie.170Please respect copyright.PENANA8P6kZvgnOF
Soon receiving Peter’s message, he said, “Good on ya, Pete,” into his walkie talkie, “So far, so good. If what you say is true about Makenna being a fairy, then by sunset she should pop her wings.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAsObug0li8k
“She should, and she will.” Pete said back. He checked again to make sure Makenna wasn’t watching. She wasn’t. She was too busy staring at the ground and thinking about Tracey and the premonition.
In his car, Detective Cody gripped the steering wheel and asked Peter through the walkie talkie,170Please respect copyright.PENANAT5Up9A4CUm
“What about Tracey? We’re missing him.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAYVIuzZ5RH5
“Don’t worry, Dad,” said Pete, “This is all going according to plan. Tracey will come. I know he will. He would never leave his precious treasure in the hands of Peter Nelson, right? The trap is set. We’ll use that worthless fairy scum as bait to get Makenna. Then once we have both of them, we’ll hurry them to the laboratory.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAecD9lfyZEL
“Sounds good.” Cody said back, “I’ll search for Tracey. I know I’ll recognize him by his green and purple. Not to mention, I’m sure those wings will look fabulous. You go ahead, son and take Makenna inside. I’ll call you again when Tracey arrives.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAR9tRZb95Ey
“Don’t worry, Dad,” said Peter, “We’re going to catch these two fairies and prove to the world that fairies really do exist. I swear to it.” Cody Nelson actually had no idea that Peter was planning on murdering Makenna. He thought he was there just to help him get famous. He turned off his walkie talkie and lowered it. He then reached into a bag that was sitting on the seat next to him and pulled out his binoculars. He rested his left hand on the steering wheel, and with his right, he peered into the sky with his binoculars, and he searched for Tracey. Makenna wasn’t the only one in trouble tonight. Tracey was too.
Peter Nelson, who was still leaning up against the hood of his car, soon slipped his walkie talkie into his back pocket, and he cleared his throat.170Please respect copyright.PENANAF5yJvLKoBa
Then, approaching Makenna, he took her shoulder and asked, “Are you ready, Makenna?”170Please respect copyright.PENANA9jgvutQnFC
Makenna gulped. “I guess,” she nervously spoke, and she met Peter’s eyes. Peter smirked. He peered over his shoulder and pushed Makenna forward, toward the entrance of the school. Raeven was cramped all over again in her purse.170Please respect copyright.PENANAOuMV84UsrD
In his head, he said, “Ugh, that fairy owes me. This is suicide.” Before long, seventeen-year-old Peter Nelson and fourteen-year-old Metamorphic Fairy Makenna Delling pushed by the front doors of the school and disappeared inside. The Nelsons’ plot had officially been put in action.
Back at Makenna’s house, Mrs. Delling had dismissed Caleb back up to his room to work on his science project, and she had fallen asleep in an armchair with a newspaper over her face. She was snoring. Up in his room, Caleb had set up a miniature chemistry lab. Glass viles, flasks, tubes of all sorts, etc. were spread out over his desk, and he was wearing a pair of safety goggles. His science project was making soap, a safe and useable soap. He was using his new powers to help with his creation. Caleb actually really liked chemistry. He actually was thinking about becoming a chemist when he grew up. He was dressed in a long, puffy-sleeved, white shirt, long, white pants, an orange, belt-like sash, and brown shoes. In his hand, he held a beaker that had homemade soap in it. Caleb examined his creation and blew on it, rubbing the beaker. His experiment was steaming which that was exactly what Caleb wanted. Bubbling from tubes and other chemistry supplies was heard all over his workspace.170Please respect copyright.PENANAJg870t5KvS
Turning on a straight face, Caleb brought the beaker close to it and said, “All right, let’s give this a go.” He was going to try his new powers again. Focusing his attention on his soap, Caleb held his left hand over the beaker and rubbed his thumb and index fingers together. Small, orange sparkles escaped them and drifted into his soap. Immediately after they touched the lye, coconut oil, tea, etc. the experiment blew up in Caleb’s face. He groaned and started to cough. With his free hand, he wiped smoke off his face and choked out, “Nope. That won’t work.” Caleb again coughed. Once he recovered from the explosion, he decided to try a new tactic, a new power. He picked up a second beaker, this soap was made from palm oil and coffee instead of coconut oil and tea like his last soap, and like with the last beaker, he brought it close to his face.
However, just before the eleven-year-old could sprinkle a new power onto his second creation, there was suddenly a knock on his door.170Please respect copyright.PENANAr9nCxfyE8j
Confused, Caleb asked himself, “Who could that be at this hour?” and clearing his throat, he glanced at his door, “Come in.” He peered at his beaker again and kept it eye range with himself. He was very involved in his experiment, just like how Mr. Delling had been involved in the music earlier. The door to his room soon opened, and appearing in the doorway, with Gina resting on his shoulder, was Tracey! Tracey! He was gripping his upper, right arm, and his teeth were clenched together. He was sweating like a fountain. His hair and ninja style, tunic-like shirt were soaked.170Please respect copyright.PENANA1DjGGk5sDg
In a weak voice, he shakily choked out, “Ca-Caleb,” and his eyes landed on his chemistry lab. Recognizing his voice, Caleb lowered the beaker he held, and he turned his head in the direction of Merlin’s apprentice.170Please respect copyright.PENANAMvGwKXaxay
At the sight of him, his eyes widened, and he quickly pulled the goggles off his eyes, “Tracey!” He set both the beaker and goggles down and faced him, “What are you doing up here? You’re supposed to be resting.”170Please respect copyright.PENANABQ1tk88K7l
“I know.” Tracey feebly spoke, and he rubbed sweat from his forehead, “However, I can’t, Caleb. I’ve got to save, Makenna, and I was wondering if you could help me.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAfloocKhAkV
“What do you mean ‘save Makenna?’” Caleb questioned. He approached Tracey and rested his young hand on his soaking chest, “You’re soaking wet, dude.” He next pressed his hand up against Tracey’s forehead, “You’re burning up. You need to lie down.”170Please respect copyright.PENANACmd4gG2JjG
“No.” Tracey refused. He feebly shook his head, “Not until I save Makenna. Caleb, you don’t understand. Peter Nelson is planning on killing her.”170Please respect copyright.PENANA73jnywND06
“Killing her?!” Caleb exclaimed. He took Tracey’s arm and lugged him over to his bed. Gina flapped her wings.
Caleb sat Tracey down on his bed and reached for his tunic-like shirt, saying,170Please respect copyright.PENANAd33Kl7XeYB
“What makes you think that? Take off that wet shirt, Tracey before you catch a chill. Geez.” Gina leaped from Tracey’s shoulder and landed next to him. Caleb pulled his tunic-like shirt off, and the tank top he wore under it was revealed. Caleb took him by the arms and said, “You’re soaking, dude. You must have a fever of at least a 103°F. If not, higher!”170Please respect copyright.PENANAeyNYT1on2p
“My life can end,” Tracey told him, “I don’t mind dying, but Makenna can’t! She’s only fourteen! Caleb please, you’ve got to help me! Even if Peter’s scheme doesn’t work, she’s still at a high risk of dying tomorrow.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAJco2iL4mdh
“Tomorrow?” Caleb wondered, “What do you mean, Tracey? Are you meaning to tell me that Makenna’s losing the ability to live?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAQEeNlywhDS
“Yes.” Tracey weakly spoke. He nodded. Caleb soon grabbed a blanket, and he hopped up on his bed.170Please respect copyright.PENANAMDbBzb2BoN
Approaching Tracey’s back, he sat on his heels and wrapped the blanket around his shoulders, taking them. “You’ve got to keep warm,” he calmly spoke, “Don’t worry, Tracey, we’re going to get you to the hospital as soon as we can. Tell me, what’s going on? Why is Makenna’s life ending?” Tracey took his hand, and Caleb comfortably rubbed it. With his other hand, he reached for his burning forehead. Caleb kept his right hand on his shoulder. He waited for Tracey to answer. Finally, he did.
Dropping his hand from his forehead, he asked Caleb,170Please respect copyright.PENANAuTsuiiInL7
“Caleb, lately, have you noticed that you’ve been getting the powers of a fairy and Makenna’s been looking a little pale?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAZOJ80Fiic6
Caleb nodded, “Yes,” and he continued to rub Tracey’s hand, “It’s been amazing, Trace! Just yesterday at school, I totally ruined a girl’s headdress with the Paintus Completeness spell! What are you trying to tell me? This is remarkable! Before you know it, Makenna and I will be fairies together!”170Please respect copyright.PENANAKdgj17xhmi
“That’s what you think,” said Tracey, “but it’s not true. The truth is, Caleb, Makenna’s powers are being drained and handed off to you. While you’re getting stronger, she’s getting weaker.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAp5lAj76Oyi
Caleb gasped, “What?! So, you’re saying that I’m becoming a fairy instead of Makenna?!” Tracey nodded. “But why?!” Caleb wanted to know, “I don’t understand!”170Please respect copyright.PENANAQK5PiNTt4a
“As you should know since you’ve done your research,” sleepily elucidated Tracey, “Makenna is a Metamorphic Fairy.” Gina rested her chin on his leg and slowly blinked. She looked very cute. Tracey rubbed her and continued, “All Metamorphic Fairies are tested to see if they really do deserve their wings. Are you following me, Caleb? Have you read about this?” Caleb was honest.170Please respect copyright.PENANA7wB1Dg8aks
He shook his head and voiced, “I’ve heard of it, but I never really understood what it meant. Please, Tracey. You’ve got to lie down.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAGTpuHqheu7
“No,” he refused, “If I lie down, Caleb, I’ll fall asleep, and by the time I wake up, that’s as if I wake up, Makenna’s life will already be over. Please, you’ve got to help me.”170Please respect copyright.PENANA9jEDpF7ADm
“You’re sick though!” Caleb argued.170Please respect copyright.PENANACx3P5vO9GH
“I know,” said Tracey, and still clutching Caleb’s hand, he peered up to his face, “I know I’m sick, Caleb, but I’ve got to do this. I want to die honorably. I don’t want to die as a chicken.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAy02drNDLEZ
“You’re not going to die.” Caleb spoke, and he clutched Tracey’s shoulder harder, “Don’t say things like that, Trace. Don’t worry, I’ll help you save Makenna.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAvG8v9lpptE
“You will?” asked Merlin’s apprentice.170Please respect copyright.PENANAfTiwzqVDfr
Caleb nodded, “Yes. What’s Peter planning on doing to her though?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAWBCjqNiU4e
“Nuts.” Tracey mumbled, and he reached for his ninja style, tunic-like shirt and picked it up.170Please respect copyright.PENANA7LmzvVL4DA
“Nuts?” wondered Caleb.170Please respect copyright.PENANAL5yEhR8SZ5
“Yes, Caleb. Peter’s planning on exposing her to nuts, and I know how allergic Makenna is to them. She told me. Besides, sunset’s coming soon.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAsptjCFCrcA
Caleb gasped, “She’s going to pop her wings! Nuts? We’ve got to hurry, Tracey!” He thought back to the time when Makenna had an anaphylactic reaction not so long after Tracey saved her from the crab dock’s overlook. He remembered how scary it was. Caleb did not want it to happen again!
He helped Tracey pull on his tunic-like shirt and hopped off the bed.170Please respect copyright.PENANAjdjepF9hrW
Taking his sweaty arm, he pulled him to his feet and said, “Easy, Tracey, easy.” Tracey closed his eyes and fell backwards, but Caleb caught him. Gina soon landed on the fairy’s shoulder, and she gave his cheek a gentle peck. “Are we going to fly on Gina?” Caleb asked Tracey.170Please respect copyright.PENANAVjmtksRogW
He nodded and weakly spoke, “Let’s head outside first.” He did not open his eyes. Caleb refused to let his arm go.170Please respect copyright.PENANAfJ9wEEFgIV
He dragged Tracey to his door and said, “Here’s the door.” He and Gina helped Tracey into the hallway, and they stopped at the top of the staircase. “Oh snap.” Caleb said when he saw the stairs, “Okay, stairs, Tracey. How did you get up here in the first place?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAdGcQmr51y2
He heard Gina in his head. “I flew him up here,” she said.170Please respect copyright.PENANAbb4dTmAtXi
“Ah,” said Caleb, “All right, let’s be careful, Gina. I don’t want Tracey to fall.” He took a deep breath and stared down the stairs, “Here we go.” With that, Caleb carefully led Tracey down the stairs.
However, because he was so sweaty with his fever, his arm started to slip. When Caleb felt this, he quickly tightened his grip. They managed to make to the base of the staircase without Tracey falling, and Caleb heard his mother snoring from the living room. She was still asleep. Caleb snuck by her, as quiet as a mouse, and he, Gina, and Tracey approached the front door. Silently, he opened it and stepped outside to the late afternoon air.170Please respect copyright.PENANAJpJZvUmHcG
Caleb closed the door with his shoe, and his eyes landed on the next flight of stairs, “Oh great. We only have one flight of stairs left, Trace. We can do this.” Moving around and the journey down the stairs had made Tracey loopy again.170Please respect copyright.PENANAlqSsZmShiu
Suddenly, he begged, “No! I don’t want to go down the stairs! I want my bed!” He sounded like he was crying. His voice was broken, and he kept his eyes closed.170Please respect copyright.PENANAHud1p19CSB
Caleb soon lifted his hand, and pressing it up against his forehead again, he said, “Oh, Tracey. You’re so hot. You’re only getting worse. Hang on, we’re going to take you to your bed as soon as we rescue Makenna and she earns her third transformation. The reason why you feel absolutely awful right now is because you refused to eat and take the medicine Mom provided you with. The previous pain medicines, the ones you took at Merlin’s Island, have worn off.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAki2NoI6v3s
“Ugh.” Tracey moaned, and his head fell forward. He started to sink to the ground, but Caleb quickly pulled him up.170Please respect copyright.PENANA1HWxBN0TmO
Glancing at Gina, he told her, “All right, we’re ready, Gina. Tracey, it’s time for us to perform the Shrinking Spell.” However, Tracey was too weak. He couldn’t perform the Shrinking Spell. Therefore, Caleb had to shrink him. He succeeded. He shrunk both him and Tracey down, and they together landed on Gina’s back. She squawked and peered back to them. “And we’re off!” Caleb yelled. He felt awesome riding on the back of a bird. He had always wanted to do it. Gina flapped her wings and squawked one last time. She then shot forward, with Tracey and Caleb on her back, and vanished in the sky.
Soon after they left, Mr. Delling returned from his walk, after being kicked out of the house, and he appeared on the Dellings’ grounds. In his hand, he held a water bottle. Andy’s eyes landed on Gina flying away, and they widened. He was so shocked that he spilled the water bottle all over his chest. He had seen Caleb and Tracey on Gina’s back. Even though he was now soaked, Mr. Delling continued to stare.
Peter Nelson and Makenna Delling had just made it to the gym, and Makenna gasped at what she saw. The gym was hopping! From the ceiling hung a large disco ball and banner that had Happy Spirit Week! decorated on it, and the gym was filled with students, food and punch tables, and music.170Please respect copyright.PENANAmLyo1MwhpT
Makenna actually felt a little excited when she saw all this. “Come on, Pete!” she announced, and she grabbed his hand, “It looks like fun!”170Please respect copyright.PENANAxN0rz6Xcon
She pulled him into the gym, and Pete said, “Whoa!” Makenna lugged him into the heart of the gym, and she searched for Jessica. She found her. She was standing just left of the disco ball in a gorgeous, glittering, pink and lilac dress. She looked beautiful, and Jimmy Carter was with her. At the sight of him, Makenna gagged and asked, “Him?” under her breath, “Why is it always him?” She manned up, and clearing her throat, she called, “Jessica!” and waved. Jimmy and Jessica heard her.170Please respect copyright.PENANAl43ayVKl3s
They turned their bodies, and Jessica called, “Makenna!” back. She waved her friend over.170Please respect copyright.PENANAUbKBM3U2FG
Makenna approached them, and slightly glaring, she asked Jimmy, “What are you doing here, Jimmy Carter?” She shooed him away, “Shoo.”
Jimmy refused to leave, not with Peter Nelson standing there.170Please respect copyright.PENANA8gBMV7BmZW
“No thank you, Fairy Girl,” he spoke, “I’m quite comfortable here.”170Please respect copyright.PENANA5Ji4IbtAYW
Makenna growled, “Leave, Jimmy.”170Please respect copyright.PENANA7TbU7lAKLl
“No.” He crossed his arms.
Peter Nelson soon approached Makenna from behind, and he took her waist asking,170Please respect copyright.PENANAhLFht5mr6K
“Why don’t we get a drink, Makenna?” He tightened his grip on her waist and sniffed her hair.170Please respect copyright.PENANAHjAHRprFMY
Jimmy saw this and glared. Clenching his teeth, he tried to run to Peter, but Jessica wrapped her arms around him and pulled him back saying, “Jimmy.” Jimmy fought her, but Jessica only tightened her grip. He gave Peter Nelson the evil death glare.170Please respect copyright.PENANA2Q1L558Rih
Peter glanced at him and asked, “What’s your problem, boy? Why do you have that sour look on your face? Come on, Makenna.” He led Makenna away from Jessica and Jimmy and dragged her toward a punch table. Behind, they watched them approach it, and Jimmy was still glaring. He actually looked pretty scary. That was how hard he was glaring.170Please respect copyright.PENANAf5Tpo1F2VR
Still holding him, Jessica said, “I know, Jimmy. You want to beat him up, but I can’t let you. Do you remember our plan? We have to make it look like we’re not suspicious. We’ll interfere when the time is right.”170Please respect copyright.PENANA4ot0Bttk2G
“This is killing me.” Jimmy growled, and he followed every movement of Peter Nelson, “I don’t like that guy.”
Peter and Makenna soon reached the punch table, and Peter poured two glasses of punch.170Please respect copyright.PENANAsC3QfYoEzB
He gave one to Makenna which she thanked him and held up his own, saying, “To life.” He and Makenna bumped glasses and took a sip. Peter then suddenly said, “Whoa!” and he purposely dropped his car keys under the punch table, “Whoops, I dropped my keys. Excuse me, Makenna.” He shoved his punch into Makenna’s chest, which she struggled to retrieve it, and got down on hands and knees.170Please respect copyright.PENANAfgcSUscSfe
Peter stuck half his body under the table, and Makenna asked, “Um, Pete?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAOcpM2KOzeT
Raeven soon poked his head out of her purse, and he asked the fairy in a whisper, “Some gentleman he is eh, Makenn? You need to start thinking about breaking up with him.” Makenna nodded and pushed him back into her purse. She then peered down on Peter Nelson again.
Under the table, behind her back, he was speaking into his walkie talkie,170Please respect copyright.PENANAhBrjlUje4N
“Well, Dad? Do you see Tracey yet?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAXJ6RrTdUdu
“Not yet,” answered Mr. Nelson’s voice on the other line, “Are you sure about this, Pete?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAaqHlj6umaY
“I am.” Peter said, “Tracey will come. Trust me. He’s Tracey.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAyJOqzAULRj
“You’re certain?” questioned Mr. Delling.170Please respect copyright.PENANASN2Nw5Hiu5

Mr. Delling sighed, “All right then. I’ll continue to look for him.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAnl55jAc64v
“Thank you, Dad. Over.” Peter turned off the walkie talkie and tucked it into his back pocket again. Then, picking up his keys, he slid out from underneath the table, held them up to Makenna, and said, “I got them.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAAolcEq9cvD
“Peter,” said Makenna, “can I, I don’t know.” She sighed, “Admit something to you?” She set down the glasses of punch and opened her mouth.
However, before she could get into details about the break up, suddenly, one of Peter’s favorite songs started to play from the disco.170Please respect copyright.PENANAut39jDwcBI
It was “I Don’t Wanna Be in Love” by Good Charlotte. “Oh, I love this song,” he told Makenna, and he started to move to the music, “Do you want to have a huge rock and roll showdown, Miss Delling?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAweVUjc9NS7
Makenna chuckled nervously, “Oh, I don’t know.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAc7Q5TfT9SH
“Come on!” Peter yelled. He grabbed Makenna’s hand and jerked her onto the dance floor. “Rock out with us, Miss Delling!” was his next sentence. He and a few other students, including his friend Bruce, joined him and started to jam out to “I Don’t Wanna Be In Love.” Peter gestured for Makenna to join the fun, but she simply waved her hands and took a step back. When “I Don’t Wanna Be In Love” went into the chorus, Peter sung along with it, he actually didn’t have a bad voice, but it wasn’t as good as Tracey’s. “Everybody!” he shouted along with the chorus, and he lifted his hands into the air, as well as the students jamming out with him:

After a bit, Makenna finally decided to join the dance party, since yeah, she did like to dance. She weaved her way into the crowd and stood next to Peter. Together, the teens clapped their hands and danced and sang along with “I Don’t Wanna Be In Love.” Makenna forgot all about Raeven hiding in her bag she was having so much fun. Maybe coming to the dance wasn’t such a bad thing after all. Peter Nelson hadn’t done anything nasty to her. She was slowly starting to trust him again. She was starting to have second thoughts about breaking up with him.170Please respect copyright.PENANAsrpoBDvW3O

Makenna laughed and fell into Peter Nelson’s arms. Jimmy Carter and Jessica were watching her from a distance, and Jimmy had lost his glare. “It doesn’t make sense, Jessica,” he told Jessica, “Why is Makenna so immobilized by that boy?”170Please respect copyright.PENANAf5kou48KLn
“Are you kidding?” Jessica asked. She pointed at Peter, “He’s Peter Nelson! He’s the hottest guy in this entire school. Perhaps nothing will go wrong tonight.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAHULUMn1TGX
“Don’t think that,” said Jimmy, “I’ve heard what Peter Nelson does to girls, and I’m not going change my thoughts about him all because he’s making Makenna smile and dance. This is only Step 1 of his plan.”170Please respect copyright.PENANAG4e3rfYeON
“Step one?” asked Jessica. She looked Jimmy in the eyes, “What do you mean ‘Step 1,’ Jimmy?” Jimmy huffed and crossed his arms. He didn’t answer. He just listened as “I Don’t Wanna Be In Love” concluded and clapping and whistling broke out.
