Before Magpie could utter a word and step in to help, Vandal ran off to distract the umbra. Magpie cursed under her breath. "There are trust issues, and not all are ready to face their fears. I wonder if you are ready to face me when the time comes?"
"Shuv off!" She snapped at him. Shadow laughed. "Naïve like a child."
Suddenly Magpie heard behind her a deep guttural growl, her hairs at the neck stood up. Slowly she gripped her sword and with a swift slash and turn the umbra shrieked in agony as olive green blood oozed. Before the creature had time to recover Magpie leapt up to its eyes and stabbed into one of the eyes. The umbra cried, Magpie made a brief twist with her sword, and it collapsed to the ground. After a while waiting and checking Magpie sighed, cleaned her blade and sheathed it.
"Quick and clean as always, Magpie." Smirked Shadow with a hint of pride and crossed his arms.
Magpie ignored him and went out to see if another umbra was close by or Vandal. Nothing. Staying here won't be of much use. I best prepare myself for further dangers when I go searching for them. She took one last look around the place, took a few bandages from the first aid kit and found some dark clothes to wear since hers are torn in rags. Black leggings with a white t-shirt, dark long coat with a large hood. As she strapped on her belt, Magpie recalled the magical plant and looked at it.
"You know it as well as its sort of magic. It enables you to great power when eaten, but only for a limited short time, after that, you will die." Sniggered Shadow.
Yet it has enabled me to recognise my power just by carrying it. Magpie tried to remember how she brought forth the shields at her cuffs. It was the strong will, needing to shield herself from the rubble. She tried to feel as she felt back then and closed her eyes to concentrate. I need to protect. I need the shields, she repeated to herself. Slowly she opened her eyes and saw a flicker of violet light, her magic. I need the shields now! She thought determined and imagined the shields. The violet light went from flickering to a steady glow at her cuffs and soon two small shields floating above her cuffs.
A soft content chuckle was heard close beside Magpie. It sounded like Ignatius but as she turned to see it was Shadow. "Still wanting to reconsider my offer?"
Magpie gave an annoyed scoff and paced out to find the others. She wished she had the Jayden doll to see him and explain, perhaps even apologise for the misunderstanding, but Cordis took it from her. She clenched her gloved hands into fists of anger. We all have our demons, but they need to be faced when defeating them.
"What about your's when you were a child and in shackles, Magpie or should I say Elyza?" Whispered Shadow. Magpie stared at him, speechless in fear. "Yes, I know everything about your past, even the part you can't recall or better said, won't recall. Being a slave is a terrible fate, my dear Magpie."
Rapidly Magpie drew out her sword and slashed him. Shadow got cut in pieces of smoke but quickly morphed back together again. "Temper, temper Magpie. Have you forgotten you can't kill me because I am a part of your beloved Ignatius?" She gasped in shock. "No worries, he isn't harmed for now. I saw your blow coming." He sniggered. "This isn't like you. Usually, are you collected, but now you slash out as if in fear-" Shadow pauses as he realises and smiles. "You can't remember your past because you fear it, a trauma I believe is the word for it."
"Just shut up!" Screamed Magpie and swung her sword towards Shadow's shoulders. He ducked and sprinted up close to her. Gripping her hand tightly the sword and smiled at her teasingly. "Now that courage turns to cowardice, but I must note, you look irresistible when enraged." He whispered and kissed her; his tongue was felt. Quick-witted and disgusted Magpie pushed him away and slapped him.
Shadow chuckled as he placed a hand upon his reddened cheek. "It was worth it."
"Bastard!" Spat Magpie and rubbed with the back of her hand over her lips to rid the feeling, although enraged her hands trembled.
"No need to deny, sweetheart. I know you enjoyed it."
Magpie sheathed her sword and took a deep breath to calm herself. "Why am I even talking to you?"
"You want my answer to that?" Laughed Shadow.
Rapidly Magpie sprinted off to find the others.
"Maybe later, dear Magpie." Sniggered Shadow and dissolved. He reappeared in the shadow of a ruined building Magpie ran past. On his dark right hand glowed in red a round-shaped unique symbol, he flexed the hand with a devilish smile.
