Em asked mom and dad if we could go to the back to school dance and of course my parents said yes to her. Drew picked me up a block away from the house and we road together while Josh, Trisha, Scott and Em followed in Josh’s car.
“Have you spoken to Scott lately?” I ask.
“Not today, why?”
“I think he feels left out of your life or something.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Well he kind of grilled me the other day and kept saying how we were so different.”
“That’s weird.” He frowns.
“I thought so too.”
“He’s my brother, he’s always going to be in my life.” He shrugs. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll talk to him.”
We pulled into the school parking lot and Drew parks close to the gym. I’m about to get out of the car when he stops me.
“What?”
“Just wait.” He replies deep in thought. He’s acting so weird right now.
I wave to Em and Trisha as they headed into the gym for the dance. Drew nods to Scott and Scott seems irritated. Once they’re inside the building Drew gives me a look and motions for me to come closer. I lean over the middle console and kiss him. His lips taste like Chap Stick, and our mouths felt like they were practically melting together.
I’m jolted out of my thoughts by Drew’s hand, which starts to make its way up my inner thigh. “Whoa, Drew what are you doing?” I ask pushing him away.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He held his hands up.
“You didn’t scare me, but you surprised me a little.”
“I’m really attracted to you Sid. It’s hard for me to keep my hands off of you.”
“Well, try harder.” I glare at him. What kind of girl does he think I am?
“What’s the big deal, it’s not like we’re having sex Sid.” He sighs.
Slowly I come to an understanding as to why my father didn’t want me dating yet. Our make out session went from PG thirteen to NC seventeen in less than ten seconds. Drew went from sweet to really aggressive.
“Drew, you’re the first guy I’ve ever kissed and the first guy I’ve ever even dated for that matter. I know you’ve probably had a lot of experience but I was hoping we could keep this PG thirteen for a while if you know what I mean.” I clarify for him.
“I don’t have any experience Sid.” Drew scoffs.
“What?” I frown.
“I’ve had a first kiss, I’ve gotten to second base multiple times, and sometimes third, but I’ve never actually gone all the way.” He admits to me.
“What about all your girlfriends?” I ask.
“Believe it or not, I don’t sleep with just anyone.” He answers. “And my mom is a lot like your dad. She doesn’t want me sleeping with anyone because she doesn’t want me being trapped by some girl looking for a meal ticket.”
“Poor little Drew.” I teased.
“I’ll keep it respectable okay, I’m sorry.” Drew apologizes.
He climbs out of the car, walks over to my side of the car and opens my door. He takes me by the hand and we walk over to the gym.
“I like your hair back in a ponytail like that, it brings out your face.” I tell him.
“Thanks.” He smiles.
Drew grabs me by the hand and we meet up with our friends at the door. We hand in our tickets and the girls and I immediately make our way to the dance floor. Drew and Scott disappeared to go say hi to their friends, while Josh went to get us all a bite to eat.
“What were you and Drew doing?” Trisha smirks.
“What couples do, kissing.”
“How cute.” She cooed.
“Yeah, but then he tried to put his hand up my skirt.” I reply.
“Well he HAS been dating Courtney. She probably let him get to third base on the first night.” Says Em.
We all burst into laughter and I notice that Josh looks irritated. Capturing his attention, I signal for him to follow me so we can talk.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
“How could you let Drew feel you up like that?” He asks angrily.
“I didn’t Josh, I stopped him.”
“Yeah right.” He walks away.
“Josh.” I call after him. “Josh!”
Josh didn’t look back or even acknowledge the fact that he heard me. I was telling the truth when I said I stopped him, so why is he so pissed off?
Drew and Scott return but now I’m no longer in a good mood. Josh is my older brother and I respect him in so many ways. His opinion and what he thinks of me mean a lot. And right now he’s convinced I let Drew feel me up.
“You okay?” Drew asks.
“No.”
“Did I do something wrong? I meant what I said and I’m really sorry.” He apologizes a second time.
“No, it’s not you.” I reply.
I have to get out of here because I’m no longer having fun. I head back outside to Drew’s car and he follows me.
“What’s wrong Sid?”
“It’s Josh. I told him about what happened in the car and he accused me of letting you feel me up.”
“Did you tell him it wasn’t like that?”
“I did, but he didn’t believe me.” I sulk.
“This is my fault. I’ll talk to him.” Drew offers.
I have no idea what he’s going to do. Drew heads back into the gym, leaving me outside, and I wait for him to come back. I’m surprised to see Josh walking out several minutes later instead. Nervous to hear what he has to say, I prepare myself for the worse.
“Drew told me what actually happened.” Says Josh.
“I’m not that girl Josh and it really hurts me that you would think I could be.”
“In my defense, you haven’t exactly been playing by the rules Sid. Dating behind dads back and kissing boys...this is going to end very badly for you.”
“I’m just trying to live a little Josh.”
“Yes, but when dad finds out he’ll put an end to your perfect little relationship. There’s ways to handle this Sid and I think you should tell dad you and Drew are dating.” He suggests.
“Josh, dad will kill me.”
“He’ll kill you more if he finds out you were keeping it from him.” He points out.
“I’ll give you one week.” He forces me into a corner.
“Okay.” I sulk. Why can’t he just stay out of my business and leave this alone.
“Come on, Drew’s waiting for you.” He smiles.
Josh holds out his hand for me and I grab it. We head back inside the gym and when I walk in Drew is being grinded on by two random girls.
“Looks like your man is having a good time.” Says Patrice.
“Drew loves attention.”
“Where does Drew get that curly hair from? His mom or his dad?” Asks Trisha.
“His mom’s mixed I think.” I answer.
“He looks good with his hair in a ponytail like that.” Em chimes in.
“Yes, he does.” I smile.
Drew notices that I’m back and leaves his two dance partners to see if I’m okay now. He still looks worried about me so I decide to put his mind at ease.
“How are you and Josh?”
“We’re fine, but he’s given me a week to tell my dad that we’re dating. He seems to be having a sudden attack of conscious.” I sigh.
“Why? Your dad is a lot of things but understanding isn’t one of them.”
“I know. Maybe you can talk to Josh for me.”
Drew nods and smiles. It reminds me of the cute little dimples he had as a kid, which have now resurfaced, or maybe this is just the first time I’ve taken notice. I reach up to caress his face and surprise myself by pulling him into a kiss. It’s the one thing I could never get sick of doing with him. He’s so good at it.
“Your lips taste like watermelon.” Drew chuckles.
“That’s Lip Smackers for you.” I wink. He looks at me confused. “Its my lip gloss.” I clarify.
He laughs. “Come on, come dance with me.” He practically pulls me on the dance floor. An avid dancer I follow him out on the dance floor with him and we tore it up so bad that a circle formed around us with kids shouting our names. The song changes a few minutes later to something a lot slower and Drew wraps his arms around my waist. I place my arms around his neck and rest my forehead on his chin.
“You smell good.” He tucks his head into my neck.
“So do you.”
We literally danced the night away until the dance ended at nine. It’s our first official date together and it was perfect. Drew said goodbye to his teammates and friends and we waited at the car for Em, Trisha, Patrice and Josh. Drew entwined his fingers in mine and we stood leaned up against his car, with him hugging me from behind.
It took another fifteen minutes for Josh and them to finally start heading to the parking lot. By that time I was so cold that I put my arms inside Drew’s jacket next to his own arms and it was so big that he zipped us both up inside it. We had a good laugh about that.
We finally piled into the car, but Em rode with Drew and I since my dad would probably be waiting on the porch for us. Sure enough, when we pull up to the front of the house he’s waiting on the porch.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Drew.”
“See you tomorrow.” He smiles.
With the Warden standing there, we skip the goodbye kiss and I headed into the house. Josh had to walk Trisha home, so Em and I sat down to eat dinner together.
“What were you doing in Drew’s car?” Dad asks.
“He drives a Mercedes dad, why wouldn’t I want to ride in his car? I don’t even have a car and he has like thee car of all cars. It’s cool.” I reply.
“I don’t mind him bringing you home from school Sidney, but that’s the only time you should ever be in his car.” He tells me.
“Fine. Relax.” I try to mask my irritation.
Why does he have to be so strict? Practically every girl at school has a boyfriend and Drew isn’t just any guy…he’s the alpha male in a room full of alpha males. He’s got swagger, he’s got a promising career as a basketball player, and he’s the king on campus. Seriously dad, Ugh!
