"What do you think happened to the orb? " Void asked as Alex held him up, his arm wrapped around his waist.
"Don't worry about it, just try and walk" he said, Void nodded taking small steps wincing everytime his wings brushed against the ground.
"Think I'll be able to use my wings again?" Void asked, Alex frowned.
"Of course" he lied.
Something flashed and a portal appeared against a tree, they paused the PTSD of what had recently happened kicking in.
It quickly faded when a small girl in a red top and shorts, her blue hair dropped around her shoulders in waves as a huge red and white mushroom was propped on her head almost like a hat. She had the ears of an elf, and the eyes of a deer.
She looked around before spotting them, her eyes sparkled.
"Oh my stars! What happened to you two? " she asked, running to them, she was much shorter as she got closer.
She pulled a bowl from her satchel and poured a liquid into it. "Drink this, it'll help with your wings. With burns like that, putting just aloe on it will make it worse" she said handing it to Void, Void looked at Alex who nodded.
Void took the bowl and drank quietly before handing the bowl back, Alex helped him sit down on a pillow and the girl smiled.
"I'm Thila, sorry if I intruded on your land. I'm just looking for a new place to set down roots" she said with a small giggle, Alex frowned ready to reject when Void looked at him.
'She's good I can tell' he basically said with pleading eyes, he sighed.
"It's fine, you can stay here" he said with a smile. She beamed.
"Perfect!" She basically twirled "you don't mind if I set up camp, do you? " she asked.
Alex shrugged "free rein, we don't own this place" he said, she smiled and nodded gently before walking away.
As she walked little mushrooms sprouted up from the ground and Void watched mesmerized, Alex shivered and went to the building next to them.
Ren and him split, Endorria was now trapped in another dimension as a dragon, Void was basically injured for life, the orb shattered...so much had happened in the last couple days he still wasn't able to process it.
He sighed and leaned against the window sill staring out at Void who was fiddling with some flowers making a flower crown.
He blinked and rubbed his eyes before turning to see three podiums in the room, books sat upon them glowing brightly.
He stared.
"When did-"
He paused and walked towards the first podium, looking at the cover he flinched.
Void.
His fingers lingered on the cover for a bit before he moved onto the next.
Alexander.
He stared, "what is this… " he mumbled as he continued to move on.
Thila.
He thumbed the lock before opening it gently, the pages inside were crisp and new.
The front page said in cursive, Thila the Divine Healer.
On the second page, her age, height, description, her favorite food was noodles.
He bit his lip and turned the page just as it was writing itself.
"Thila hummed as she walked through the forest picking flowers and herbs for her mushroom stew-" he stopped and closed the book abruptly.
These were their life stories… all stored in books.
His breath hitched and he returned to his flipping through the pages looking for what happened the other day, but the pages they would've been on were gone. Torn out. He stared.
"What… why? " he scowled and shut the book, rubbing his temples.
This was stressing him out.
He shook his head and displeasedly returned to Void "how are you feeling?" Alex asked, Void smiled.
"Better, although I wish I had something to cover my face… I don't know, I feel really self conscious about these… marks. I mean the clothes are fine, you can barely see them, but my face… it's so exposed. " he said, Alex nodded and Void set the flower crown on Alex's head.
Alex smiled "you know, I think I have just the idea" he said, Void raised an eyebrow- or tried to anyway- "stay here" he said standing up.
Void chuckled "I mean where do you expect me to go? I can't walk" he teased, Alex rolled his eyes and ran off looking around the forest.
"Oh, hey there friend" Thila said, a deer eating from her hand, he eyed her.
"Thila" he acknowledged, she smiled.
"Are you looking for a fallen tree? " she asked, he tensed.
"How'd you-"
She tapped her droopy elf ears and he couldn't help but smile. "I know one with great wood, I also have some pain if you'd like" she said, he smiled.
"Thank you"
"Of course, anything for the lad who let me stay here" she said, he nodded following her into the woods.
For such a young elf, she talked a lot like she was older.
Thila glanced back at him "I never did get your name" she said startling him, he chuckled.
"Alex" he replied, she smiled lightly.
"Lovely name"
He nodded.
"Here" she said gesturing to the fallen tree, Alex smiled and looked around for an ax before shrugging.
He pulled off some bark as Thila looked for some fiber to make string.
As they returned to Thila's make-shift camp Alex carved the bark into a mask with happy slotted eyes and a big grin. When he was down, Thila finished it with white paint and string.
Alex eyed it.
"What do you think?" he asked, Thila smiled.
"It fits him" she said, he nodded and stood.
"Thank you, a lot" he said, she smiled, tipping her mushroom hat genuinely.
"Of course, if you ever need me just follow the trail of mushrooms" she said with a smile, he nodded and walked away.
