It was different than the others

I wrote your favorite poem in the leaves

But it looked like my favorite flower

You didn’t like flowers

But I hoped through this painting

You would begin to like them too

The red hue

Of the blooming flowers

They shimmer and shine

From the glitter added to the petals

From the lights

But you didn’t really like it

So you kept it in the secret room

The one in your home that only you can get to

From the small door

In the corner of your closet.

You crawl through

The smaller door

Leading to the magical room

That we used to spend all our time in

But the room has lost its magic

As we grew

From the people, we knew

You didn’t like flowers,

Poppies least of all

Because they pulled you back to our childhood

A place you wish you didn’t know.
