It was the devil's hour when my parched throat caused me to get out of bed and go down the stairs to to the kitchen.
Man! Why is the kitchen so cold?
Its in the middle of winter for heaven's sakes!
"Good night darling,"
"WHAT THE HELL!"
I sit up, grab the baseball bat stashed at the corner of my bed, sprint back to the kitchen and open the fridge.
It was empty.
I could have sworn I...
After rapidly shaking my head, I shiver from the cold and look towards the direction of the open window.
Wait...don't tell me he...
Suddenly something covered my nose knocking me out cold and the last thing I heard was...
"I'll see you tomorrow Darling."
Beep!
Beep!
Beep!
I sit up in shock and grasped the side of my aching head.
"What happened last night?"
Then my eyes fell on the time.
"9:30! Holy shit!"
Jumping out of bed, I get dressed and nearly fell down the stairs heading to the kitchen and rush out the back door. Knowing fully well I had just missed the bus, I had to run to school.
Why I'm I running?
Today is the Physics test and I can't afford to miss it if I want to get a good grade at the end of the term and good luck asking the teacher for a do over. He's a strict mother fucker!
I get to school and from the silence in the hall I knew everyone was in class.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!
I rush to my homeroom and open the door.
"You are late Ms. Neil and an hour and thirty minutes into my period no less...."
That was the last thing I heard before my body fell to the ground.
"Y/N..."
"Y/N?
"Shh! She's going to wake up!"
I open my eyes and see Steven, TK and Peter all looking at me in concern.
"Where am I?"
"Your in the hospital." Steven said.
"You passed out." TK added.
"How are you feeling Darling?"
I sit up and instantly grabbed my head.
"How do you feel?" Steven asked.
"I feel like twenty elephants are having an orgy in my head."
They all looked at me with wide eyes until Peter sniggered, turned red and covered his mouth.
"I see you still have your sense of humor."
I nod with a sheepish smile on my face and grasped my head again.
"You need to sleep Darling." Peter said reaching out but TK blocked him.
"Do you mind? She can lay back herself."
"Are you insane? She's in pain!" Peter giving him the death stare.
"But that doesn't mean you have to baby her."
"Why don't we call the doctor instead?" Steven asked.
I nodded and Steven left to go get him while the two stayed staring daggers at each other. Then the Doctor came, shooed them away and did a check up on me.
The next day, I wake up to Peter holding a basket.
"Good morning Y/N. How are you feeling?"
I groaned in response.
"I still can't get that response out of me head." then he grinned. "Its engraved in my mind."
I grinned eyebrow at the slur in his voice. "Thanks."
He sat on my bed, opened the basket and took out an object.
"Its an ice-cream sandwich or would you like to eat some soup before dessert?"
My stomach growled and I decided to taste the soup. It tasted good but anytime I took a spoon full Peter blushed like crazy.
"What's with the face?" I ask.
Sweating, he looked away. "You sound sexy when you slurp soup."
Great!
Now I have lost my appetite.
At least I was full soup.
Then the door opened and Don walked in with the doctor.
"Good," quick look at the time. "Good morning sir."
Don nodded, thumbed towards the door and Peter packed up his things and left. Once he was out of the room, Don whispered to the doctor who put a hand on my forehead.
"How are you feeling today?"
"I feel better thank you."
He wrote something on his huge notepad while Don looked at me with narrowed eyes.
"Hey kid. Do you have any history with sleeping pills?"
Sleeping pills?
I shake my head.
"Are you sure because we found them in your system," said the doctor.
My senses went haywire. "What do you mean?"
"We did a blood test and found a strong sedative strong enough to knock a bull elephant down and cause hallucinations in humans." with that the doctor looked at me. "How where you able to wake up?"
I shrugged. "Maybe it was because of the fact I was going to have test that day?"
"She's addicted to coffee sir," Don said.
"Its no wonder. The caffeine in your system fought against it but it wasn't enough to make you stay awake. Do you have cases of insomnia?"
"No but ever since my friend died two weeks ago I haven't been able to sleep well."
"I see," he wrote something down. "I recommend you stop taking coffee and seek professional help if you are facing mental issues. You are a young girl. You have a long time to live."
Then he walked out the door leaving Don and I alone in the room in awkward silence.
"I heard about your friend kid," Don said. "And I am sorry for your loss."
Sadness filled me up as I gave a grim nodd.
"You do know his mother got arrested for child abuse right?"
I look up at him. "What?"
"She got arrested. When they did the autopsy and discovered he weighed less than a normal human. To top it off, they found bruises on his body. Her excuse was she was trying to make sure he didn't turn out like his father."
I hummed in thought. "They were a happy family before his father left her for another woman. I guess it tore her apart."
He nodded and another round of silence came up. "I also learned that someone attacked you in your home. Is it true?"
Instantly the memory of that night came flooding in but it was blurry. "How did you..."
"The maid told me. She walked in to you lying on the kitchen floor with a baseball bat next to you and suspected you were attacked but your father said something about you being drunk." he folded his arms and glared, "But now that the doctor told me about the sleeping pills, I guess my intuition is wrong?"
I shake my head. "No. I was attacked that night but I don't know who it might be?"
"Your friend told me you have a stalker right? That's why you wanted the tree to your bedroom cut down."
I nodded and he sighed.
"I normally mind my business kid but it looks like I have to take matters into my hands. I'll come by your house to install security cameras once you are discharged."
"What about my father?"
"What about him?"
"He won't let you into the house after that incident." this time, it was my turn to fold my arms. "You banged my mother didn't you?"
He blushed and looked away. "It was a long time ago."
"None of them have come to visit me in the hospital anyway," I muttered to myself. "Looks like I have to call the 'Heavy Artillery' then."
"What?"
"Can I borrow your phone Mr. Williams?"
