The same sparkling brown eyes that matched mine were in shock when he finally realized who he had held that rigid sharped edge device to. Though, he knew he wasn’t226Please respect copyright.PENANACMYHygHHav
going to get in trouble. In utter confusion he asked, “When did you return? And why are you sneaking in?” He didn’t give me a chance to answer before shaking his head in bewilderment and saying, “Forget that, we got news yesterday that you had been ambushed. Are you alright?”
I smiled, only slightly, replying with, “I’m fine. Did you miss me?” Throughout this exchange my arms had grown tired, so I lowered them rubbing both to get some feeling back into them.
“You know I did. This place was a nightmare. Everyone seems to have been trying to set their own plans in motion while you were gone.” He had stepped closer, probably to give me a hug, but seemed to remember I wasn’t alone. His gaze turned to Samuel as his eyes drifted over him in complete judgement. And his final conclusion did not look like a pleasant one. “Who is this?” From his unenthusiastic tone I would say he wasn’t very happy to be asking. I, then, saw his eyes drift lower again. When they didn’t return upwards I decided to see what he was staring, or rather glaring at. So I did the same and realized Samuel’s arm was still interlocked with mine. Well technically, it was my arm wrapped around his. Samuel was just standing there with his hands in his pockets. If I wasn’t biting my tongue to the point where it felt like it was going to tear off I would have been blushing from Luke’s inspection. I refused for that to happen.
When I got over the pain I was feeling in my tongue, I said, “He’s a…friend I met while I was visiting. And he helped me get back.” That explanation didn’t sound too awful. It also didn’t seem satisfactory because he scrunched up his face like he always did when he didn’t like something. It was a good thing he had put up his sword because Samuel’s wish to still be alive was becoming real slim. Anyone could tell Luke wasn’t thrilled I had brought a guest with me, but he wasn’t about to tell me that in front of him. Instead, he raised his hand and said, “Luke. I wish I could say it’s nice to meet you, but my cousin tends not to think things through sometimes.” Hmph, so, I may have been wrong. He does question me in front of other people. Samuel shook Luke’s hand with his unaccompanied hand. “Samuel."
Unsure of what else Luke may say I said, “Alright, now that introductions are finished shall we go inside. We have matters to discuss and Samuel needs to rest. He hasn’t gotten a decent amount of sleep in a few days.”
“My thoughts exactly,” my dear cousin replied flatly.
I widened my eyes as I said, “Really you thought he needed rest too? Don’t you think he looks rather pale? Just staring at him he looks like he could pass out any second now. I told him he was weak and fragile!” I patted Samuel on the back with a good amount of force that made him stumbled. Once he regained his balance he narrowed his eyes at me.
“I wouldn’t be tired if it wasn’t because of you,” he retorted. “You only let me rest for a few hours before waking back up again. Can I not have the right to be the slightly pale?” Luke must have forgotten why he was upset with me because as Samuel ranted him and I stared at each other smirking. Not too long after we both started to laugh uncontrollably.
Trying to catch my breath I said, “You’re too easy to rile up.” I bent over and held my stomach, feeling tears fill my eyes as I laughed harder. Luke was being held up by a tree trunk, which he had somehow began leaning on.
Breathing in deeply I told him, “We…need…to go…in. We…don’t…have…time…for…this.” He nodded holding up his hand signaling for us to give him a second, so he could get a hold of himself. Samuel just stood with his arms crossed frowning at us.
When we had gotten back to our usually unfriendly selves we started walking towards the entrance of the palace. We heard a voice call out, “Sir, we found a horse tied up to a tree right outside the gate. What should we do with it? It’s a really nice looking one too. Can we take it to the stables?” I hadn’t even seen him around, but he staggered excitedly trying to reach Luke.
Hearing that was all it took for Samuel to stop walking completely. He looked as if he wanted to murder the guard who said it. “No, you may not take him to the stables. That is my horse. You better not touch any part of him!” Calling out to where we had first come from he yelled, “Obsidian, I’m coming for you buddy. Where’d they take you?” I frowned when to my surprise there was actually a response from the horse. Samual was two seconds from bolting in the direction where the noise was. His back was facing me, so I grabbed the upper part of his shirt to keep him in place. He only noticed when he tried to walk away, but was yanked backwards instead. He wasn’t too thrilled about it either.
“Take the horse to the stables and make sure he’s well taken care of. Don’t let anyone ride him if they don’t have permission from his owner,” I answered. The guard glanced unsurely at me and looked at Luke. All Luke said was, “You heard her.” That sent him into a frantic hurry.
“He’ll be fine. You can go see him in the morning,” I calmly told Samuel letting him go as I did.
“What if they don’t listen and someone decides to ride him. It’s better if I go make sure he’s alright.”
“Are you being serious right now? I just told the guard to not let anyone ride him. Did you not listen?”
“What if they don’t listen to you? Hm?”
“They wouldn’t dare.”
“You don’t know that. My horse is irresistible. No one can say otherwise.”
“If you don’t stop, I’ll send you to sleep in the stables too.”
“Will it be with Obsidian? I won’t argue against that. He might get lonely.”
“Stop arguing over a horse.” Luke had decided to interrupt our… conversation. It wasn’t an argument. If it was, I was right. Samuel just sounded silly. “Are you two children? Why does it seem like I’m watching you both?”
“He started it,” I mumbled.
“I did not!”
“Enough! From both of you. Let’s just go inside and get everything settled,” Luke commanded sighing after and leading the way inside again. I looked at Samuel and whispered, “This is your fault.”
He whispered back, “How? I was just concerned about Obsidian.”
“You shouldn’t be. I told you everything was taken care of for him. Now, look, you got us both in trouble.”
“Me? If you would have just-"
“You mutually got yourselves in trouble. And what did I just say? You know what no talking completely. You can speak when you’re both acting mature.” This was unfortunate. I crossed my arms and opened my mouth to say something, but immediately got shut down. “No. I don’t want to hear it.” That was how we found ourselves in complete silence for the remainder of the walk.
