Dani: "The serenity of the room is mitigating my acute anxiety. And you're my hero."
Aurora: "The saying 'Don't count your chickens before they hatch' might be applicable."
Dani: "Look, my limited Japanese managed to get us a hotel room. Plus, you carried me."
Aurora: "I sense the hotel staff thought you were drunk, and having difficulty forming words."
Dani: "Before you meet up with C, we need to kill some time. Let's get to know each other."
Aurora: "What the heck? I already know who you are, Dani."
Dani: "Yet, it's like we've been sprinting this whole time. We’ll slow to a jog and converse."
Aurora: "I am getting accustomed to your colloquialisms, and able to guess what you refer to."
Dani: "Why don't you ask me something about myself? It will make me feel better, I think."
Aurora: "Tell how you became a movie critic. That job must be more stimulating than mine."
Dani: "I might have been exaggerating a bit. I was a blogger, though now I tweet more."
Aurora: "Tell me the parts that I will be able to understand with 1947 as my reference point."
Dani: "I decided to be a L.A. critic in 2010, the year my family - my aunt and sister - died."
Aurora: "Oh my God, Dani! We can stop talking. Instead, you should rest. Get some sleep."
Dani: "It's okay. My sister had returned to college in L.A. My aunt and I came out to visit."
Aurora: "Meaning you are not from Los Angeles?"
Dani: "I was born in the Midwest, raised in the Hamptons. We ran a profitable restaurant."
Aurora: "How did your family members pass away? No, disregard that, you do not have to say."
Dani: "The three of us - my aunt, sister, and me - were in Baja when an earthquake hit."
Aurora: "Like the 1947 tremor when I skipped back in time after walking around Edinburgh?"
Dani: "It was like a real earthquake, so no. There was a billion dollars' worth of damages."
Aurora: "Sorry, I did not mean to compare what I experienced to... Please continue."
Dani: "There's not much more to say. I had the lawyers sell my family's New York assets."
Aurora: "Well, you can talk more if you want, but instead, maybe you should get some sleep."
Dani: "I got no other family. Ha! It occurs to me that's like many manga protagonists."
Aurora: "Regardless, I am having a hard time hearing you, so simply keep drifting off to sleep."
Dani: "I got a minimum wage job in L.A.... I met Toru.... I saw his time-and-place kayak..."
