After having some sandwiches, Bill and Fate stay at home to learn about the history of magic and our family tree, probably as punishment. Tad and I go out to town, so he can learn to conceal his powers, but still use them. I didn't get to see what he can do, so that could be a problem. Fate gave me $50 so we could buy some stuff too.
"Hey Tad, what can you do with your powers?" I ask as we turn down an alleyway together.
"Oh, um, I can make these daggers, you saw those though, and I can um, do something else, but it's a little big for here, and it's a little unstable, so.." Tad continues to stutter, so I decide to cut him off.
"That's really cool!" I exclaim, stopping at the end of the alley and turning to him, he beams like I've just given him the world I giggle as we walk further down the alleyway.
"Show me one of them." I ask, holding his hand up. Tad closes his eyes and a faint blue glow emits from his hand, up past his white sleeve. A small, sharp, blue dagger appears, not much larger than the hand that holds it, but still sharp enough to make a deep wound. Which I have already experienced, mind you. he opens his eyes and smiles, proud of himself for being able to do it easily.
"Great!" I exclaim as I ruffle his hair, the knife disappears as he goes to fix it.
"Come on, we're still on a mission." I said, leading him out of the alleyway.
We continued to walk into various stores, Tad either just holding a set of knives behind him as we walked past strangers, or keeping it poised and ready for when I would jump out of the racks and ambush him. I think it's safe to say he actually feels comfortable around me now.
"What else could we do?" I rub my chin as we walk down the street. Tad stops and tugs on my arm. I turn to look at him when I see were in front of the library.
"I guess we could take a break..." I smile as he practically drags me inside. After realizing nobody was inside except the librarian at the front counter, he goes into the science section while I head to fantasy, I always thought it was funny how mortals try to predict our magic. I grab a few novels and decide to check on Tad. Walking to the far corner of the library, I go to turn down the isle when I hear hushed voices. I peek through the books and almost faint on the spot. There they were, Dan and Mary fucking Alva. I crouched down behind the shelf on the next isle so I could hide better.
"We know you have them." Mary hissed, hand around Tad's neck as he was pushed against the wall, not in a way to hurt Tad, just to keep him still.
"I-I-I don't k-know w-what your t-talking about." Tad stuttered, glaring daggers (pun intended) at the identical twins. Mary's went from brown to blue at the comment. Dan's probably would've to, if he had his pendant. I internally laughed at that last comment.
"Don't play dumb, boy. Who has been teaching you magic?" Dan spat, Tad's face paled, now was the time to step in.
"Tad?" I ask quietly, the three turn their heads to me. Mary's eyes returns to normal as Dan regains his composure. Tad just stares, dumbfounded, he can thank me later.759Please respect copyright.PENANA4cPKzV1eA0
"Oh, Sal, fancy meeting you here." Dan smiles, though it wouldn't take an idiot to see the venom in his eyes.
"W-What's going on here?" I ask, shuffling past the identical twins to stand in front of Tad.
"Oh, we were just having a friendly chat, is all, right Tad?" Mary says, stepping closer to me.
"Uh... yeah, that's all." Tad responded, a nervous smile on his face. He is the worst liar.
"May I ask you something, in private?" Dan asked, a light blush dusting his cheeks, I stood, completely frozen, Mary seemed to understand, that was even more worrying.
"A-Alright." I say, forcing myself to look nervous. I followed him a couple rows down the left and we stopped, that's when I realized where we were. In the romantic novel section.
"Sal, I've been meaning to ask you this for a while now." He said, rocking a little on his feet. Wait, was Dan Alva, THE Dan Alva, nervous in front of ME. I wanted to laugh right then and there, but I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms instead.
"W-Will you go out with me?" he concluded. I stood there, mouth agape and arms dangling at my sides. Dan, my sworn enemy, just asked me out, after me walking in on him about to kill my brother, in the romance section of a fucking library! I straightened, regained my composure, and glared at him. He seemed taken back by my response.
"If, that's all you have to ask, I'll be going back to my BOYFRIEND." I exaggerated the last word, and walked past him, roughly hitting shoulders as we past. I left him there, shocked. I knew it was a distraction, so I hd to get back to Tad before it was to late. I turn the corner to see Mary with blue eyes and Tad with a confident smirk, his eyes darted to me for a second and I gave him a 'go-with-it' look, he nodded in my direction and Mary turned, magic fading as she did.
"Let's go, honey." I growled, picking up my two books as Tad picked up his three. I winked at him and he quickly caught on, adjusting his books so he could wrap his right arm around my waist. Dan came back into the isle, attempting to corner us. We simply walked past the awestruck twins, before Tad finally responded to me.
"Whatever you say, babe." Tad exaggerated the last word. We check out our books and exit the library as if nothing happened.
