~~~Sarah’s POV~~~
It was interesting, really, about how many people tried to be Toby’s friend or tried to show him around. Some girls even tried to flirt with him. This made me a little jealous, although I have no clue why. I literally just met the guy. I took a breath, and began on my way to lunch. Kaitlyn jumped up and waved at me frantically, kind of like the way she did on the day we first met.
“Sarah!!” Kaitlyn shouted. “We’re over heeeeeeeere!!!!”
“I see that,” I said, walking over to her. The guys weren’t here yet, which surprised me.
“You like Toby.”
I blinked at her. “....What….?”
“You heard me.” Kaitlyn grinned wickedly at me. “I saw you glaring at Vivian, Kenya, Harmony, Cammie, and all those other girls who were trying to flirt with Toby even though Vivian, Harmony, and, I think, Cammie all have boyfriends.”
I scoffed, “No I do not! I LITRALLY just met him this morning!” I said, doing a Danisnotonfire impression on the word “literally”.
“NO MORE DAN AND PHIL FOR YOU!!” Kaitlyn huffed.
“Litrally.”
“Stop!”
“Litrally.”
“I mean it!”
“Lit. Truh. Lee.”
“I SWEAR TO GOD, SARAH!!”
“Hey, don’t swear!”
“Hey guys, were you waiting for long?” Ash asked as he walked towards us; Toby was following him close behind.
“Nah, you actually just saved me from Sarah making any more Dan and Phil references.” Kaitlyn said, pretending to be on the brink of despair.
“You’re *crack* very welcome, Kaitlyn!” Toby joked.
“Aww! How sweet? The losers have a new member for their little clique! Although, he doesn’t seem suitable for them…” Taunted an annoying voice. I whirled around to see Vivian standing a few feet away dressed in a One Direction shirt, baby blue skirt, and pink high tops. Her dark brown hair hung in ringlets down to her shoulders. Her brown, almost black, eyes stared at Toby with a smirk playing on her lips.
I clenched my fists. My cheeks were on fire with an angry flush. Vivian just laughed at me. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t Sarah the Stalker!” Vivian jabbed a finger at me as she walked closer and closer to me. “You followed Austin around and “kept tabs” on him like he was nothing but an object to you and not your boyfriend. You’re nothing but a little freak who has nothing better to do than to stalk people and act all depressed and whatnot. We all know the truth, Sarah.” My cheeks burned even more as she continued on with her little “diarrhea of the mouth”. “You’re a little slut who pushes herself onto others and cuts herself. Austin told us the truth on how you tried to do the do with him. We all know Austin can’t lie to save a life, so what he says must be true.”
I felt tears begin to prick at my eyes, “I’m not a slut. You don’t know half of what Austin did to me…”
Vivian leaned down to my ear and whispered, “Just kill yourself. We’d all be better off with you gone.” She sashayed away quickly after that.
Toby looked at me. “Ignore *twitch* her.”
I sighed heavily, “I’ve been doing that since day one, dearie.”
The air between the four of us was awkward for many moments before Kaitlyn spoke. Her tone was slightly unsteady and unlike her normal self. “Let’s go get some food….”
Ash nodded, “I hear they’re serving crispitos today. With cheese.” Ash was trying to, subtly, cheer me up. “I heard they also added pocky to ala cart. And strawberries. Doesn’t that sound awesome, guys?”
Toby looked at Ash with an eyebrow raised. “What does *crack* food have to do with--”
Kaitlyn, however, caught on quickly. “Oh! Yeah, that does! I also heard they’re adding pancakes and wa--”
“Stop. Just shut up, all of you. You’re making me really hungry.” I said, trying not to laugh.
Kaitlyn and Ash gave me a hug, “Nah. We good, fam.” Toby felt a little left out and awkwardly stood to the side. I broke apart from Kaitlyn and Ash and hugged him. Toby blushed at this.
“W*twitch*What are you doing?” He asked. I hugged him tighter.
“Giving you a hug, you awkward person,” I replied. I heard his heartbeat increase a bit. He, very slowly and awkwardly, began to hug me back. I heard Kaitlyn and Ash walk away, leaving me and Toby alone in the hallway.
Toby mumbled something I couldn’t really hear.
“What?” I asked.
“I said your *twitch* hair smells like the Japanese cherry blossom scent from B&B. Lyra used to *crack* wear it all the time back in Denver,” Toby mused. “Although… You yourself kind of smell like *twitch* strawberries and pancakes...”
I blushed. “Well, you smell like….” I took in a breath, “You smell like fall and… waffles? Eww, and Axe!”
“Well sorry *crack* I smell like *twitch* Axe; Austin and Carlos sprayed both me *crack* and Ash in the locker room.” Toby explained. “Do you know *twitch* why Carlos has such a high voice?” Toby made his voice go into a higher pitch when he said that word “high”.
I giggled. “No, but’s been that way since middle school.”
We stood there for a few more minutes until someone cleared their throat. I turned around to see Austin glaring daggers at Toby and Carlos shaking a bottle of Axe.
Toby and I exchanged looks before booking it to the cafeteria.
Carlos grabbed me by the back of my hood and pulled me backwards and onto the floor. Toby skidded to a stop when he noticed me on the floor.
I looked around for Austin and noticed he had disappeared. Suddenly, pain radiated through my side. I noticed that Carlos was kicking me. Right when I looked at him, he sprayed Axe in my face. I gagged. I couldn’t breathe. Panic began to surge through my body as I got up.
In a blink of an eye, Carlos was hurled across the hall. I stared at Toby in shock as his, once soft and kind, chocolate brown eyes turned hard and cold as he stared at Carlos.
Carlos got up, limply. “So the ticky guy can fight? I heard at your old school they called you “Ticci Toby”, eh? Suits you.” Carlos spit onto the floor. A wicked look was in his cold, gray eyes, “We’re going to settle this after school. Three forty-five; out in the courtyard.” Carlos turned around and left the hall.
Toby moved to to go after him, but I held him back. I was barely trying to keep my breath even.
“Don’t,” I breathed out. Toby shook his head. “He’s a jerk, Toby. He’s always been like that.”
Toby sighed, “Yeah, I *twitch* get it… Are you *crack* okay?”
“I’m o-okay…” Toby clicked his tongue.
“No you’re *twitch* not. You’re having a panic attack *twitch*, aren’t you?”
I calmed myself down. “Y-Yeah…” I took in another deep breath. “But, I’ve got it under control…”
Toby looked relieved. “Good. Now come on.” He took my hand and led me to the cafeteria. “Kaitlyn and *crack* Ash are probably worried sick right now.”
I smiled. “Yeah. They’ve probably already finished eating and… yeah…”
We walked hand in hand in silence until we reached the cafeteria. It looked like Kaitlyn and Ash just sat down. That’s good. They probably haven’t been waiting long. Kaitlyn waved at us before we went through the lunch line.
I grabbed my food and got a strawberry kiwi Switch from ala cart and payed for it, with Toby following close behind. Kaitlyn started jumping up and down like an idiot again, as per protocol.
“What took so long?” Ash asked, rolling his eyes at Kaitlyn’s antics.
“We got held up,” I explained calmly. “I also had a small panic attack, but that got cleared up quickly.”
“Yeah…” Toby said, confirming my little explaination.
“Well, you’re lucky you got here after us, then. The line was reeeeeally looooooooong.” Kaitlyn joked. “Longer than--”
“Shut up, please,” Ash said, sounding a little bitter.
“--I was just going to say longer than that--”
“Kaitlyn, I am warning you!” Ash hissed.
“--banana on your tray.”
I turned to look at Toby and snorted. “That was just litrally awkward.”
Toby snorted as well, “You can say that *twitch* again, Dan.”
