It was then that the whole story blew up in my face. And it happened so fast that I barely could make sense of what happend.
It all started in the street. I was simply wandering around trying to process the information overload. My mother and Isabella were standing across from each other. My mother was as white as sheet, staring at the locket which Isabella was wearing.
The locket in the shape of a book with the word Hamlet on it.
She would have walked away without causing a scene if Isabella hadn't laughed mockingly and said what she said next.
"Still unable to grasp the fact that what used to be yours is now mine?"
My mother bit her lip. I could read in her eyes that she was severely shaken.
"I do not live in the past Isabella. I'm sorry that you do..."
"That's what people who lost say, right? You two looked lovely on stage as Hamlet and Ophelia. The couple who had been dating since forever. Childhood friends...Highschool sweethearts...Is that past something you can really leave behind?"
"I did leave it behind. I was happy"
"And I wasn't. Hardly fair, is it? I get what I want but I am still unhappy."
"I warned you Isabella. A person's love isn't something you can snatch. It's not a doll or a dress. I always gave you what you wanted...Always...But..."
"The perfect sister, weren't you, Diane? The one who didn't throw tantrums...The one who everybody loved. "
To be continued...
