I just received a text. Looks like I actually got in! I rushed to Bea's house to tell her the news!
"Open up!!" I said as I knock the door.
"Oh Reid honey, We are in a hurry! Bea's upstairs! We're running late bye!" Mrs. Jackson said as she kissed my cheeks.
I entered their house and go upstairs to look for Bea. But I saw Brian.
"Morning." He said to me casually.
"Morning to you too." I said back as I walk past him. That was more of like a robotic response.
"So... What brings you here?" He said as he walk with me.
"I got in."
"WHAAAAAAT!!? That is soo cooool!!!" Bea screamed at the top of her lungs and hugged me. WoW!
"yep. I got in!" I hug her back.
"What position?" Bea asked me
"Preferably edge of heaven i-" Brian said. I forgot he's still here and he's talking about sex positions! Ughhh can this guy think of anything except basketball or sex?
"I don;t know yet but during try outs my position is wing spiker." I said to Bea.
"Alright! I know you can do ti!" Bea smiled at me.
"Soo... you're part of the varsity now?" Brian asked me.
"yes."
"Wing spiker is the ace of the team. That's tough job." He said again.
"I know. I'll go back to my house see you guys later!" I wave as I left their home.
I act normally right? He did not suspect me liking him right? I act naturally! I knew it! this is what I all said in my head when I got back but my heart was beating so fast.
after class, I go to the gym for the practice.
"welcome new members, You will now meet all of the volleyball men varsity." Coach Harris said to us. I am just so glad that Ryan made in! At least I know someone.
"There will be no practice for today, I want all of you to know each other." Coach said again and he left us in the gym.
I can feel that someone is staring at me and I felt awkward.
"Greene..." I knew it. It was him!
"King..." I said as I turned around.
"Well.. Uhmm... Your uniform. here it is." He gave me my uniform. It was number 7. He was embarrassed? He's blushing...
"Oh.. thanks." I said as I get my uniform from him. This varsity is quite good. Thou I was asked about my gender, no one criticized me unlike before in middle school.
After sometime, Coach came back and we had a very short game and we were dismissed.
Ryan and I bid our goodbyes at each other but Rick kept on walking beside me.
"What do you want?" I asked him I mean, He does no need to stick to me.
"Another chance." It was a whisper but I heard it clearly.
"What did you say?" But I still played deaf.
"I want another chance Reid. Just one more chance. I'll make everything right. Pl-" He was cut short because he was slapped. Not by me but Bea.
"Hey Captain. You two are nothing but teammates. so leave her alone." Bea said to him.
"Besides, he's mine." Brian said as- WHAT!? BRIAN?! What does he think his doing!?
"Sup Brian. I don't know what you're talking about but I believe that Reid is single." Rick said to him.
"But he's not available." He spat back at Rick.
"Let's go." Bea said at us. She was sure pissed off.
"I'm sorry sis... I didn't know..." Bea's teary eyed now. I don't want her to cry just because of this.
"It's okay. Look at me. I'm fine right? I had overcome my fear." I smiled at her. and she smiled. That's way better.
"Anyway, It's our time to practice so I can't send you off. Brian can-"
"No. I can take care of myself!"I said to her defensively. Oh no.
"EHh?? "Bea said at me with a sly smirk plastered in her face. ughhh just like her brother.
"I'll take her home." Brian said as he sling his arm in my shoulder.
"It's HIM" I said to him a matter of fact
"HIM HER It's all the same. You're Reid." He said to me. well, That's a new.
"See you later!" Bea said as she head back to gym.
The ride was very quiet. and in no time, we are home.
"So... Good bye." I said to Brian without making any eye contact.
"yeah." He said back.
"Hey." What? who's that?
"King... What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"I need to talk to you." he said and with his, Brian was about to punch him. Maybe Bea told him about Rick and I. I starred at Brian and we had another starring competition It was as if we are talking through eye contact.
"Don't."
"Why? This guy hurt you."
"Let's be mature and talk about this. He's not doing any Harm now."
"Fine. Call me if it gets worse."
"I will."
"I'll head first now." Brian said as he entered their house.
"I was left broken. You know that." Rick started.
"I know." I said back.
"Why wont you give me another chance?" Sadness was clearly heard in his voice.
"I got tired. I kept on begging you to stop acting like you are the king of the world and that all you is play with girls. What do you think I would feel? I'm just a gay King. A fvcking gay... If you can play with a girl then how much more to me?" I said to him. I wanted to say this for way way back... Now... I finally did.
"But I can change..." King said... I know he can... and that's what I fear most.
"Just leave. Captain." I said as I entered my home and go straight to my room.
And with that, Breakeven was played in the radio. Why am I still afraid? question kep on bugging me that I fell asleep.
