I made my way back to Veradany’s base and knocked on the front gate. It opened immediately without anyone looking through the peephole in it.
I stepped through and found myself surrounded by ten people, all armed to the teeth. Veradany stepped forward.
“Excellent,” he cackled. “You did your part. Now I can tie up loose ends. Kill him!”
I slung my swordstaff off my back as the first two closed in on me. I blocked a sword from the first one while twirling aside from the other person’s blow.
I brought my blades around in a swiping motion knocking one person’s sword aside while decapitating another. I locked blades with another person and was pushing them back when suddenly I felt a motion in my gut and looked down to find the point of a blade sticking out from my stomach. Apparently, I’d been stabbed in the back.
Suddenly Seb’s warning came to mind. “A few good hits and you won’t be good to anyone.”
I glanced at my hp bar and was surprised to find that it hadn’t moved at all. Was there some ability I had?
Deciding that surviving this took foremost priority I rolled forwards and devoted myself entirely to combat. Within five minutes me and Veradany were the only ones standing in the courtyard and the ground was littered with the bodies of his men.
“I can make this right,” stammered Veradany as I approached him. “Please. Anything you want.”
“I want to tie up some loose ends,” I said. “Requiscat in pace.”
I sprung my hidden blade and slashed his throat open. Ignoring a small cut on my arm from his blade as he tried to defend himself.
As I watched he fell to the ground. Hands at his throat futilely trying to staunch the flow of blood. Within moments he gave a shuddering sigh and became still. I started looting the bodies. Keeping those items that I thought I could sell or use. Notably a small compact crossbow and a level eight Spear for my own use. After selecting five of the highest quality weapons to sell I approached where Veradany had dropped when I killed him. I opened his loot window to find a revolver and... I whistled to myself. A thousand silver coins, a few emeralds and rubies, and a purse with three hundred gold coins in it.
I added the items to my inventory and equipped the revolver. I fired a bullet at the wall to see what would happen. The bullet gleamed electric blue for an instant as it flew then when it hit the wall it released an electric pulse that left me seeing spots in my eyes.
I grinned to myself. “I am so keeping this.”
Then I turned and left. Heading to the nearest pawn shop to sell my loot if I could find one.
